Mercy glanced around her hands rigid at her sides. She was exhausted, having no sleep for 48 hours straight wasn't that fun, but she wasn't about to put her guard down. Sending a glance at a body - which she swore she saw move - she leaned against the wall of the gas station.
A car drove and parked in front of the broken-down station. Tanner waited for any signs of walkers before stepping out and being quiet with the door. He made mistakes in the past, and now this seemed to be his punishment; stuck the the middle of the end. Tanner looked around before taking a hand to his back an pulling out one of the blood-red colored katanas. He held it to his side before going to the door and opening it. Maybe I can find some gasoline for my car and, hopefully, some food while here... It's growing dark, and it seems usually walkers are stronger at night...
"Hello?" She hissed stepping towards the car. Her blade was out, rigid in her hands. Walkers can't drive but whoever is here could be infected, she kept repeating through her head. She walked around the car once to see if anyone was in it: then again to inspect the car itself. Mercy nodded to herself slightly, approvingly. The car wasn't in bad shape at all.
Seeing that the store was basically stolen of everything besides gasoline and bodies, he sighed before hearing someone outside. He looked out the glass door and saw someone next to his car. He frowned before exiting the station and looking at the girl. "Hi." He said simply, for he heard 'hello' before coming out here, and expected it to be her.
She whipped around and froze. "I thought everyone was dead" she commented her eyes widened. "You're not infected right?" she was instantly suspicous of this boy. She had her bag filled up with supplies, and she hugged the straps to her tightly.
"I'm quite positive I'd rather die than be one of them walkers." Tanner joked. "Glad to know someone's actually alive here. My name is Tanner Fox Hovis-Johnson." Tanner took the katana and put it back in its holster strapped to his back with the other one. "You look like a walker, though. I'd get some sleep if I were you; you look like you're gonna pass out in the middle of a wave of walkers."
"Oh wow thanks, and I'm Mercy" she cracked a smile, the first smile she had ever made since a long time. "And I would sleep if i had the time, but I don't have any time." she pulled a water bottle out of her bag and took a tiny sip before putting it away.
Tanner thought for a moment before gaining an idea."...Well, maybe you could sleep in the back of my car while I travel. I was kinda hoping to head north, where I know walkers are weaker." Tanner spoke before scratching the back of his head, chuckling nervously. "Don't take my word for it, though, about the north thing. I only got that from watching too much of The Walking Dead." He chuckled. "That's really where my knowledge of walkers come from, sadly."
She laughed a little and nodded. "That would be nice. Plus I was trying to head North anyways. Was heading to Canada." she had never truly believed she would get to Canada alive. Traveling with someone else would be a nice change for once: not being alone all the time, being able to sleep.
"Just hope we don't run into an undead Justin Beiber." Tanner joked. "Did you happen to see any gasoline containers? I only have one extra gallon left before the one in my car runs out." Tanner asked. He looked in the back seat of his car and checked his food supplies. "Unless you have food, we also might need to invade a grocery store, or possibly a different gas station."
She grinned tossing him her bag . It had at least 7 cans and bags of food, and a gallon container with gasoline. "Is this enough" she asked quietly stiing a yawn of exhaustion.
Tanner smirked. "Yep, that's enough." He looked around, seeing darkness begin to envelope them. "We should get moving soon; all I know about zombies is that they are more dangerous at night, and I don't trust spending the night at a station full of bodies."
She nodded stepping back towards the car. Mercy tilted her head watching one of the bodies twitch but she didn't feel the need to say anything about it. "We better hurry up then"
"Well, hop in." Tanner spoke before opening the driver's door and shifting into the car. "Car's unlocked." Tanner mentioned before quietly turning on the car. "I wouldn't try the radio; all you'll hear on every end is either static or calls for help from survivors before hearing a scream; happened to me and never turned the dang thing on again."
She got in the passenger seat, tossing her bag in the back. "Well that's.... Depressing" she pulled her legs up under her. "I remember the radio, the music and stuff" she smiled, glancing out the window.
"Yeah... It scared me, honestly not expecting it." Then Tanner shrugged. "But besides the fact, let's just get on the road and get moving somewhere else; this place is beginning to creep me out." He looked at the gas meter to make sure he wasn't to loose gasoline soon.
She nodded, leaning her forehead against the window. "Tell me if you get tired and I can drive" she mumbled before passing out. Her chest rose and fell with each breathe, for once in her life she was able to sleep without one eye open.
Tanner found hself smile as he pulled out of the station and onto the road. It's nice to hear a living person breathing besides me than the groans of the walkers... Tanner thought, keeping a sharp eye out for walkers as he drove; running into one would probably be a mistake if it survived crashing through the windshield...(Stay here or go to the road topic?)
Thalia nodded with her eyes glued to the ground, excitedly climbing out of the car and taking a couple large steps forward. Thalia's head suddenly jerked up and her baby blue eyes widened in sheer terror. "Why are we here?" Thalia mumbled out before rushing back towards the car and pressing her back against the cold door. Her palms were pressed up against her thighs as she raked her terrified gaze over the gas station.
Lansing closed the door to his car behind him, hearing an almost nonexistent sound come from it. Good, less sound the better. First things first, they had to check the place to make sure that the place wasn't swarmed with zombies. Who knew, they could be locked in the place. "Need to scope the place out first." Without waiting for the others, he started creeping up to the gas stations door, flatting his back against the side.
((Blahhh! So sorry I've been gone! Please forgive me :3))Cate, having heard Lansing, went to do the same. Though before she left to scope the place out she turned to face the small group. "Kris, stay here and keep you're eyes open." she instructed. "If things go wrong I want you guys to leave, don't wait for us. Understand?" With that, and before Kris could answer, ate tossed the keys towards Kris.
~ ~ ~
Kris, having rolled his eyes when Cate's back was turned, easily caught the keys. "Yeah mom, I got it." he said, though once he said it he felt a slight pang of...of what? Sadness? Regret? Anger maybe? Who knew, but it quickly went away when he turned to face Cassie and Thalia. "We're here to stretch our legs." he said, answering the little girl. "It gets pretty cramped in the car after a while."
Thalia made a strange whining noise before she shook her head and wrapped her arms around herself. Her gaze remained on the ground, not wanting to look up. God did she hate this place. "She doesn't seem bossy... she's just leader-y" Thalia quickly came to the womans defense and smiled charmingly up at everyone, quickly forgetting her fear. Her pearly whites reflected the sun before she clamped her mouth shut and scooted back nervously.
Kris smiled as he slowly nodded his head. "Yeah, she's the older one, so I think she thinks she has to be bossy." he said with a charming smirk in Cassie's direction before laughing softly at what Thalia had said. "Oh no, she's just plain bossy kiddo," he corrected with a smile.
Kris was about to reply to Cassie, but then he hear a noise. Though this wasn't the sound of a walker, it was the sound of an engine. "Duck down," he instructed the two girls as he did the same. Quickly, he pulled his gun out of the band of his jeans, ready for anything. For all they knew whoever was driving this car could be hostile. Slowly, Kris peeked through the windows of their car to look over at the car that had just arrived. Time to find out what kind of people, or person, they were.
Thaila poked her head out, titing it slighty before ducking back down. "Are we being spies?" she whispered excitedly at the thought. Her hand closed around the small pocket knife she had, trying to copy what everyone else was doing with their own weapons. "I like being a spy" she added, being as quiet as a little child could.
((I think they should split up, well, get separated for that matter (: That's just me though. Im trying to find a way to bring in some of my other characters))Lansing's eyes moved from point to point, place to place, taking in everything they could. From the people they left, to the doors of the gas station and behind the walls next to him. His eyes landed on Cate--that was her name right? Of course it was, he had a near photographic memory. Days like this, wasn't exactly wonderful. He pressed his finger to his lips as she approached, straining to hear what was going on behind the doors next to him.
((I agree!))Kris pressed a finger to his lips, hoping to convey to Thalia that she needed to stay quiet. "I know," he whispered back to Cassie. "Stay here." he instrcuted to the two girls as he slowly rose, gun firmly in hand. "Let me see your hands." he said firmly, stepping around the car, gun aimed at the guy.
~ ~ ~
Cate nodded, though she didn't exactly need him signaling her that. She wasn't an idiot after all. You don't survive as long as she had without using your brain. Once she was next to Lansing she stopped to listen more intently to the noises coming from inside the building.
((Awesome! So separated by zombies?))Lansing closed his eyes and counted the shuffling feet and moans to a total of at least a dozen zombies. Couldn't be too hard to take, right? As long as they controlled them, didn't let them swarm, they would be alright. Besides, the supplies inside were beyond valuable. Worth the risk, at least in his mind. Maybe Cate had a different view, but if she didn't want to go in, or help, he wouldn't make her. "At least a dozen inside, but I think we can get past them and grab what we need," he murmured just barely above a whisper. That was Lansing after all, taking a risk, thinking he could do anything. He was a realistic, or so he liked to believe. At times it didn't prove to be accurate.
((Sounds good to me! :3))Kris kept his gun aimed at the guy, despite the fact that he'd said he wasn't dangerous. The thing was you couldn't just take people at their word anymore. Maybe before all this, but definitely not anymore. "Drop the screwdriver," he said, his voice unusually cold and commanding. Even though Kris wasn't Mr. Serious all the time, he took the safety of those around him very seriously. Which meant no taking any stupid chances.
~ ~ ~
Cate nodded in agreement, a dozen wasn't too bad as long as they were able to move around. Even though Lansing hadn't done anything to lose her trust, he hadn't exactly done a whole lot to gain it either, which meant Cate wasn't going to be taking her eyes off of him anytime soon. "Ready when you are." she whispered very softly.
"Do you have any other weapons on you?" Kris asked, taking a few steps closer to the guy, his gun still aimed at him. Just because he was cooperating now didn't mean he wouldn't try and pull anything. Like Cate always said, 'Trust no one.' or maybe that was from a TV show, who knew. Either way that was a good phrase to live by in this new world.
Lansing decided that it would be easiest if he used his gun instead of his knife, it was faster and more effective. Other than the walkers inside the gas station, there didn't appear to be any wandering around. Which led him to believe that there would be next to no chance of attracting more of them. He nodded to Cate and counted on his fingers to three. On the last number he quietly opened the door in the attempt to sneak in, hoping that there was a slight chance that they could go in and out without being noticed. No such luck. Within a few strides, several faces--what remained of them at least--turned his way. Lansing let off a round of bullets before continuing on his way, by now he was far too comfortable with a gun; some days that thought scared him, other times its kept him alive. It was really quite a bipolar feeling.
Thalia, unsure of what to do with herself, kept twisting to look at the people around her. Eventually she gave up on trying to figure out what to do and made her way off from the safety of the others, curiosity getting the better of her as she followed a noise to the side of the small gas station. She stopped, staring up at a large what used to be white SUV. The paint had been covered over in dirt and what looked like blood, which only resulted in spiking Thalia's curiosity up even more. Going up onto her toes, she peered in through the tinted out window of the car, looking through the glass in an attempt to see what was inside. Thalia could still hear and see everyone, but was no longer paying attention to anything except for the old car.
Yanking the door open, a foul rotting smell hit her hard in the face. Scrambling back she gagged slightly before turning and charging back to where Kris,Cassie, and the new man were. "Gross" she mumbled as she finally stopped once reaching her destination.
Kris, gun still aimed at the guy, covered the distance between himself and the stranger. Kicking the screwdriver away, Kris quickly, but thoroughly, patted the guy down, all the while keeping an eye on him. "This is nothing personal man, just how things are now." Kris said, taking a few steps back and lowering his weapon, though that definitely didn't mean he trusted this guy. Not by a long shot. Being the guy that Kris was, he naturally trusted women more easily than men. Point being Cassie and Thalia. Lansing seemed alright, but time would tell. "What's your name?"~ ~ ~
Cate waited with baited breath as she watched Lansing's fingers as he counted to three. Right when he opened the door she let out a short breath before breathing in sharply. The stench was enough to make you puke if you wern't ready for it. Thankfully Cate was ready, therefore she barely even gagged at the horrid smell. The sound of Lansing's gun going off was quite loud for such a small space, but again Cate was used to this. Therefore she joined in on the shooting, taking out a few walkers that were near by, being spattered with blood in the process. Still, she continued on.
((I was thinking that because Cate and Lansing fired guns, the noise attracted more zombies nearby. So when the two walk out of the gas station, the parking lot is covered with walkers. Yes? No? (: ))Lansing let his instincts take over, his gun firing naturally. He was vaguely aware of Cate firing of her fun behind him, but had enough confidence that she wouldn't hit him in the back by mistake; or purpose. She's survived this long, that had to say something. Not once did he look behind him, only in front, knowing it would take a lot for something to catch his back. One would claim he is too confident and it would be the end of him, he will be too comfortable, but Lansing wouldn't hear any of it. Finally, he lowered his gun back down to his side as the last walker dropped down on the dusty wooden planks. "Now, that wasn't too hard," he mused shifting his gun around in his hand before checking how much ammunition he had left loaded in it. With a sigh he stuck the gun in his belt, with the knowledge of using more bullets than he wanted to. Luckily he had more ammo in the truck
((Sounds good to me!))"What?" Kris asked after the guy, Chad, had introduced himself. Turning around quickly, sure enough there were walkers. And quite a few of them from the looks of it. "Shit," he muttered as he looked around frantically for his sister and Lansing. If he didn't find them soon he knew he'd be forced to leave them, to leave his sister. "No, no, no. C'mon Cate, where the hell are you?" he muttered as he scanned the area. "Cassie, get Thalia and stay close to the car." he said before turning towards Chad. "Any good with a gun?" Kris asked seriously.
~ ~ ~
Cate wiped blood spatter off of her face before re-loading her pistol and turning to Lansing. "Piece of cake," she agreed before doing a quick walkthrough to make sure the place was completely empty. Couldn't be to careful in this shit hole of a world. "Lets take what we can and get back to the others." Cate didn't doubt that her brother could keep himself, as well as the others, safe, but that didn't mean she didn't worry about him.
Lansing waved his hand dismissively as he walked around the small gas station, avoiding puddles of blood as he went. Other than the hand motion, he didn't say anything else. What was the hurry, they didn't exactly have anywhere to be at this point. Next thing they knew, they would be in the car driving for hours. It wouldn't hurt to stretch his legs a bit, now would it? Too comfortable, Lansing was far too comfortable here. He walked around like he owned the planet, and the sad thing? He knew he was that arrogant and didn't mind. For all he knew he did own the world. Bad? Not exactly. It would be him or the zombies and there was no way he'd let the latter happen. With an armful of food, what he could salvage through the blood soaked wreckage, he nodded to Cate. "I'm good if you are."
"Oh God," Kris muttered as he slowly shook his head. Just his luck. Cate was no where in sight, walkers were moving in quickly, and this kid had never used a gun before. "Cassie, I need your help." he called out to her. "There's a pistol in the glove box, give it to the kid." Jerking his head toward Chad to indicate that's who he was talking about. "And I'll need you to help me take out some walkers too." Kris added.~ ~ ~
Cate rolled her eyes, not one to enjoy the company of the arrogant. Especially when they were younger than her. Moving around the store swiftly, Cate grabbed what looked to be useful; a few cans of fruit, some batteries, a half a can of oil, and other odd things. She stopped dead in her tracks when she thought she heard the sound of walkers. "Did you hear that?" she asked Lansing, standing perfectly still in case the sound came again. Maybe Cate was just paranoid--okay she was paranoid, but that wasn't such a bad thing now right?--which led to hearing things. But more than likely she'd actually heard something.
"Only if you have too," Kris clarified. "Cassie and I've got this, you only shoot if you absolutely have too." Lifting his own pistol and aiming it towards the approaching walkers, making sure that he was standing with the car to his back. Cause if they needed to make a quick escape, they were all in the right spot. Once the walkers were close enough, Kris shot off a few shots, hitting the walkers where it counted. Where the hell is Cate? He thought as he took down a few more walkers.
Kris ignored Cassie, even though he knew she was right, and continued to fire. Then he heard Chad's gun go off too. "Aim for there heads or don't shoot at all." he said over the loud gun fire. When he had to re-load is when he really started to notice how many walkers there were. "Shit," he muttered as he popped another slip into his gun.
Kris's feet stayed planted where he was standing, still firing off shot after shot. Cate had always told him that the day might come when he'd have to leave her, but he'd always shrugged off her words as lies. How cold he just leave his sister to die? That wasn't right. The walkers got closer but Kris stayed put, Cassie's words not registering in his ears.
Kris finally snapped out of his thoughts when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Turning to face Cassie, his mouth parted slightly with words that wouldn't come to his lips, Kris looked into her eyes, his own swimming with tears. He said nothing as he nodded and took hold of her hand, turning towards the cars. "We're getting out of here," he said to Chad, slowly regaining his composure.
Kris hopped quickly into the driver's seat and stuck the key into the ignition, the car came to life as he turned the key. Taking one last glance at the rearview mirror and seeing nothing but walkers, he reluctantly drove away, blinking away the tears that had started to sting his eyes.((Back to the road? :3))
Lansing shook his head, no he hadn't heard anything. She was just a girl, always paranoid and overreacting to the smallest things. Typical. Only a few minutes, if not seconds later, he heard gunshots. So many, it was impossible to deny, which he was planning on trying to do to be honest. "Shit." And with that, he grabbed his gun and went out the front door. If there were as many shots as there were zombies, then it was useless to try and sneak out the back only to confront more in the front and their journey to the car. Upon opening the door, he was greeted with a bunch of drooling faces, decaying faces. Lansing wrinkled his nose before shooting his gun.

[ Location ] Dallas, TX
[ Summary ] This particular gas station is on the outskirts of the town, far away from the city, along the major highway. You come across it when entering or leaving Dallas. It is pretty vacant, and most supplies have been cleaned out, though, if your lucky, you'll find some lingering surprises. There are bodies littered on the ground, been there a while. In this gas station, there is an extra door, hidden. If you happen to find it, it will increase your supplies. Walkers are pretty scarce in this area, but I wouldn't let your guard down.
The outside is very run down. The outbreak of this disease has caused a panic and when people are desperate and crazy, they destroy. Most of the gas has been left alone, but overall, the appearance is fairly damaged.
