Indie Book Club discussion

What was everyone's favorite book they read in 2013? Doesn't have to be indie published, just whatever you really enjoyed.

Oh hmm I, the Sun or Sacred Band. Indie - not sure.... Dragon Blades probably.

I'd have to say The Way of Kings.

Read The Way of Kings last year and rather enjoyed it.

For this year, it's a bit unfair because I finished off volumes IV-VI of Edward Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.

Best independent book was perhaps House of Shadows, by Walter Spence. It's not my usual cup of tea and could've been a smidgen longer, but it was very well-written.

In fiction it's Arauco: A Novel and The Forest Of Hours. 1st independent, 2nd traditional.

Blood Song

Blood Song was my favorite read of the year. Great book.

Mistborn: The Final Empire

Not just the book, but the entire trilogy.

I see two people chose Sanderson books as their favorites. Did anyone give Steelheart a read yet? I listened to the audio book and wasn't quite sure what to think.

I read Steelheart a few months ago. I was a little let down by it. I feel like it got better towards the end, but it definitely wasn't up to Sanderson's usual level. Though perhaps I'm being unfair by reading a YA dystopia novel the same way I'd read one of his epic fantasies.

It was really good, if you like that kind of thing.

My favourite read of 2013 was Brandon Sanderson's "Mistborn" trilogy , gets better and better through books 1, 2 & 3.
