@Lisa Kay, thank you so much for this information! I've had this account for a while and I had no idea GR sold ebooks much less had some for free!

Certain books are free on GoodReads, most are “public domain.” Here is how to tell which ones they are. We will also discuss how to manage your eReaders so that GRs can tell you which is the best format to download them instead of reading them on-line.
If a book has free viewing or download, there will be a dark green box that says “read book”, as shown in Screen #1, red arrow. If it is a different edition than the one show, there will be an asterisk.
Screen #2 shows what the book will look like, if you are reading it on-line.
If you want to download it, then click on “download ebook,” as shown in Screen #1, green arrow. This will take you to Screen #3 and the various formats available.
If you have NOT told GRs which eReaders you have, the portion of the screen to the right of Screen 3 will look like Screen #3B.
If you want to tell GRs what type of eReaders you have, you may do so by choosing “mangage your ereader” (red arrow) and it will tell you which is the best format to download. (Currently there are six pages of different eReaders from which to choose, along with a small picture showing the equipment or screen interface. Refresh your screen the first time, afterwards.)
After you have told GRs what type of eReaders you have, your screen will look like Screen #3C, purple arrow.
Here is a listing of GRs free books.
