Have downloaded January's book choice. As I love History I'm hoping this could be a good antidote for January blues.

Finally finished this book. And I mean finally as a relief. I have read many books on Egypt but I found this one not very informative, the story was flimsy and petulant. All about the high society of Egypt while almost no mention of everyday Egyptian lives, of life outside the cocooned palaces. And mainly about the quest for power for one vain girl.
Saying that, it is set in Egypt so I could just about keep turning the pages. Sorry not one for me

Kirsten (starburstkirst) | 7 comments I really enjoyed it but then again I've not really read many books on Egypt history so most of the historic flaws I didn't pick up on. I thought it was a good page turner and I managed to finish it in a week or so.

Astrid (astridrial) | 11 comments I listened to about the first hour of the audio book and found the characters' names, the places and other unfamiliar descriptions hard to follow in the narration. Although I read and listen to a lot of historical fiction, this story did not grab me enough to pick up the printed book.

Mary | 9 comments I liked the atmospherics.. oil lamps on the boats, cinnamon incense, honeyed dates & so forth. Kind of hopscotched around the story but appreciated the historical tree & notes at the start & end.
