J.D. Robb discussion

There are so many great authors, books, & series in the mystery/suspense/thriller genre of fiction with numerous sub genres like Romantic Suspense, Historical Mystery, etc. In an effort to explore and share some of these great novels with other members, we would like to choose a book from one of these genres to read & discuss monthly. Every month, we will open a thread for nominations and then choose the next month's read by setting up a poll of all nominated books for members to vote on the book of their choice. Nominations must be books from either the Mystery, Suspense, or Thriller genres or one of their sub genres by authors other than Nora Roberts or J.D. Robb. As always, we will continue our great discussions of the In Death series through Buddy Read threads and enjoy discussing Nora Roberts books in our sister group, Nora Roberts Groupies.

Monthly Book Nomination Guidelines:

1-Each member can nominate 2 books per month. Please include a link to the book that you nominate.

2-Only nominate books that you intend to read and discuss with the group.

3-If your nomination wins the poll, we would love for you to consider leading the Book of the Month discussion for that month. Leading the discussion can be as simple as sharing your thoughts and encouraging others to share theirs, or you may prefer to post questions concerning the plot, characters, etc. The choice will be yours if you decide to lead the discussion.

4-Nominated books must be from the Mystery/Suspense/Thriller genres or one of the many sub genres.

5-Nominated books must be the first book in a series unless the Robb group has read the preceding books previously.

6-J.D. Robb and Nora Robert books are not eligible for nomination. We invite you to join us as we explore the In Death series books in our In Death Buddy Reads and enjoy discussing the Nora Roberts titles in our sister group, Nora Roberts Groupies.

7-Should an issue arise that results in the winning book being disqualified, the book that received the 2nd most votes will automatically become the replacement Book of the Month.

Just to clarify...The Monthly Book can be from any of the mystery, suspense, or thriller genres or sub genres. This will cover a wide range of authors and books. I know there are many, many books by excellent authors in these genres that I want to read. I hope you all will join in.

Please note: Nominated books should be the first book in the series unless prior books have been read previously in this group.

We have a #2 in a series nominated for this month. Not all of us have read #1. I don't have time to read #1 and I won't read #2 until after I've read #1. So in order to allow #2 to be nominated and to give everyone time to read #1 is that if #2 is to be nominated, let us know it's to be nominated 3 month before so we have time to read #1.

Thank you for expressing your concern. Asking for a three month window to nominate a #2 book in a series really isn't feasible as we don't nominate and vote three months in advance. As our Guidelines state, there is only one condition that qualifies any book beyond the first in the series to be nominated and that is: Nominated books must be the first book in a series unless the Robb group has read the preceding books previously. This guideline ensures that members have had and still currently have the opportunity to read and discuss the previous book/s with other members in the Robb group. Members are encouraged to join in discussions anytime, no matter when the discussion commenced. We maintain a history of our group reads. Members can read any of the past selections at anytime. You can find all previously read Books of the Month shelved by year in our Robb group library at Monthly Book Discussions Library.

We invite you to read the first book if you're interested in the series. Otherwise, feel free to use your vote to select another option. We feel it is unfair to direct other members to not vote for another members nomination when it is within guidelines currently in place.

We appreciate your suggestion. However, we think the current guidelines are fairly presented and continue to work well for the majority of participating members. We don't plan any changes at this time.
