What is your current favorite theme song or theme music to a Tv show?

For me its a four way tie between,

The theme from "Smallville", The theme from "Charmed", the theme from "Roswell", and the theme from "Dawson's Creek".

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Cool! :)

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

They're all songs that I find myself singing whenever the show is on. It gets me in the mood for that show even more when the theme song is good!

It's Instrumental. So, you would call it an Instrumental Theme.

I think the Game of Thrones Theme is cool, too. It's Instrumental also.

That's why I put theme song or music.

Teresa | 241 comments Theme Song from (1980-1982)TV Show Bosom Buddies. The Song was "My Life" by Billy Joel.

"My Life" is a song by Billy Joel that first appeared on his 1978 album 52nd Street. A single version was released in the fall of 1978 and reached #2 on the U.S. adult contemporary chart. Early the next year it peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

"My Life" was used as the theme song for the ABC television series Bosom Buddies (1980–82); however due to licensing issues it does not appear on the VHS and DVD releases of the series, nor is it used in the show's syndicated airings; in both cases, it is replaced by a vocal version of the show's closing instrumental theme, "Shake Me Loose", sung by Stephanie Mills.

I'll Be There for You (The Rembrandts)--"Friends" Theme Song

"I'll Be There for You" is a song recorded by the American pop rock duo The Rembrandts. It is best known as the theme song to the American sitcom Friends, which premiered during 1994 and ended in 2004.[1] The song was also released as the first single from the group's third studio album LP. Prior the song's inclusion as the theme song for Friends, "Shiny Happy People" by R.E.M. was the original choice for the theme song for Friends.

Teresa | 241 comments "I Don't Want To Wait" by Paula Cole, however the series was originally planning on using Hand In My Pocket by Alanis Morissette. The DVD's after season 1 used the song "Run Like Mad" by Jann Arden.

In Season 1 of "Dawson's Creek" they started off with,"I Don't Want To Wait" by Paula Cole.
Then in Season 3 they changed the Song to "Run Like Mad" by Jann Arden.

This was written by Pete Carpenter and Mike Post as the theme for The Rockford Files, which was an NBC show about a private investigator played by James Garner. Stephen J. Cannell created the show; he was good friends with Post and wanted an unusual instrumental theme that would get the viewers' attention. Post and Carpenter came up with the song using a blues harmonica, dobro and electric guitar, along with what Post describes as "a chamber group on steroids" - 2 flutes, 2 French horns, 2 trombones. For a lead instrument, they used a Minimoog synthesizer, which was new at the time, making this one of the first uses of the instrument in a hit song.
Carpenter and Post set out to make a 2-minute hit record, and it worked, with the full-length version going to #10 in the US. Post had previously worked on some hit songs, producing "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" and "Classical Gas," so he was in the mindset of creating a hit, not just a TV theme. The full version was released with him listed as the artist, as Pete Carpenter wanted no part of the billing because he thought he was way too old to represent the song in public - he was 60 years old at the time. Post scored another hit with his Theme From Hill Street Blues and another with Magnum P.I.

Teresa | 241 comments Well, I LOVE the beginning, because of the relation between Mother and Daughter and that's just so sweet. The last Episode, to me, was a tear-jerker, because everyone got together and gave Rory a going away party. She was getting ready to go to Harvard.
Then it's those Episodes in between when Lorelei and Rory go through the things they go through, they ALWAYS have others back no matter what. It just makes me cry sometimes. Because I'm happy for the 2 Characters.

Paige Duff | 7 comments King Fan wrote: "In your opinion what's the best season of the Gilmore Girls? I haven't watched the show."
I love the whole show, I had all seven seasons, and the cases got messed up for the first four because an ex left them and a bunch of my scrap booking stuff out in the back of the pick up while it was raining. The disks still worked ok so I just put them all in a CD holder case thing. About a year or so ago my husband got me the box set thing with all seven seasons and a few extra things that are not in the individual season sets, like interviews and a virtual tour of the town, there is a complete guide to Gilmore-isms from the entire series as well. and things like that. My best friend got the old copy of the series, and she loves them. I would have to say that Season Five is probably my most favorite though, That is when Lorelai and Luke finally get together for the first time. But when it comes to Rory's boyfriends I would have to say that I do like Logan the best. Here is why, he is Dean and Jess rolled into one plus gets Rory to do things she normally wouldn't, and I am not even talking about the part about her idea to steal a boat either, that was his father destroying her dreams there for a bit, Logan just didn't help matters by going along with it. Also Sorry if I Said too much about episodes and if I confused anyone because they do not know the show. I started watching the show the a few episodes into the first season and was hooked from the start. The characters are real to me, I have watched it that much over the years.

Teresa | 241 comments Trust me I've seen Gilmore Girls enough to know it almost by heart.
Even though I have seen it a lot I have a bad habit of having arguments and fussing with the TV Screen while watching it. I mean, I know how it's going to end, but hoping it be different.
I LOVED Dean until he made up that HUGE Lie to Rory about his wife and him are going be divorced soon, so Rory fell for it and slept with him and then lied to her mother, in a way.
Then Jess was BAD NEWS all around. I'm so sure that he was good for Rory at all.
And last Logan. He was a mix of Dean and Jess. Got Rory in trouble sometimes, but he was good to her. I LOVED Logan and of the 3 Guys, I do believe that Logan was the BEST.

I agree, I have also watched enough for that and I do the same thing. My husband thought I was crazy the first time I was watching through One Tree Hill because I hadn't watched it much after the first season because I got busy my last couple years of high school. So when I started watching it again, I was so made when I got to the end of the one season because the way they left it, I actually threw a pen or eyeliner or something like that at the TV screen. This was before we got the flat screens though so I cant do that now. I was also mentioning the last bit for anyone who has not seen the series, for those of us that watched so mush we can almost act it out verbatim is another thing all together. My best friend finally watched the series so she could understand all the Gilmore references I was making and then she got hooked as well. I know what you mean about watching knowing the ending but hoping for a different outcome. I do that every time Luke or Lorelai talk and do not confess their love before season five.

message 30: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 241 comments I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the WHOLE Lorelei and Luke love that was between them. He cared about her for so Many years, then when they finally confessed their love to each other, it made me happy.
It's sad the Emily NEVER approved of Dean and Luke. You know, I started thinking, it's because they're not rich.
Dean was questioned by Richard. Then the WHOLE thing when Lorelei showed up with Luke at Emily's house after they were Engaged, she looked down at him and shunned him.
The ONLY Person Emily ever looked up to is Christopher. It's sad about the Christopher-Lorelei Love Story, too.
Luke was the BEST one for Lorelei.

Very true, I think the only reason that Emily even like Christopher is because he was Rory's father and she had wanted them to get married while Lorelai was Pregnant. I also think she just never got the whole didn't need to be rich way that the girls lived, I do not think Emily would have been able to survive if she wasn't rich, and if Richard passed away.

message 33: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 241 comments TRUE. Emily would've fell apart if she wasn't rich. She also became a sweeter person toward Lorelei when she went through certain things in Gilmore Girls.
I also, think that Christopher and Lorelei should've gotten married, so Rory would have parents 24/7. That part of Gilmore Girls was sad too in a way.

I can understand what you mean, but I don't think it would have made the show as good as it was, plus then there wouldn't have been Luke. Plus Lorelai and Chis were sixteen, they needed to be able to grow and find themselves, and so when they did marry later in life that is why they did not make it, also because Lorelai was not over Luke but that just added to the already problematic couple. If Chris would not have left after their Sleep over in the Hotel room the night before Sookie's wedding then it may have been fine between them. But he did, and though I do understand his reason's, he still got things wrong, because he was once again leaving his first child behind.

Teresa, you are a goldmine of information in this subject. Rockford Files came to me because it is one of my favorite theme songs of all time. It personifies James Garner's style of portraying a PI. Very masculine and humorous. I can see Magnum PI being very similar. Both actors are great as well. Thank you for your expertise and time in sharing this. I love to know the how's and why's of the making of movies or songs or books. It adds another flavor to the mix.
