Dragondale Books (dalestaines) I have been searching for gay vampire themed books. My partner enjoys vampire reads and I would like to find something for us to enjoy together. Please inform me if you know of any. Thank you in advance.

Ralph Gallagher Vampires Anonymous
Lost Souls
The Gilda Stories A Novel
Piercing the Darkness Undercover with Vampires in America Today
Pomegranates Full and Fine

I haven't read any of these yet, but Lost Souls looks pretty good. If you want more, lemme know and I'll find some more.

Alexandra (little_alex) | 8 comments Well, however much I dislike Anne Rice's current books, the Ricean vampires were never exactly straight. And Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series (the one True Blood is based on) has a number of gay characters as well, though the main characters are straight (some are bi, I think).

Yeah, what exactly happened to Anne Rice?

Dragondale Books (dalestaines) Thank you for the help. If anyone happens on any other titles, I can add them to my list. The more, the merrier.

P.S.
I think that Anne Rice lost it after her hubby died and so she turned to religion...sadly enough.

I'm not so sure it's about that, since the quality of her books already started to decline around The Tale of the Body Thief. I think it's just that she got famous and decided to fire her editor...

Incidentally, that's the last book that I read by her. Haven't wanted to pick up any subsequent books by her.

Matthew | 5 comments There's a book called The Blood of Kings A Novel by John Michael Curlovich. I couldn't even finish it because it was so bad, but if your boyfriend's desperate enough... or has bad enough taste...

Somebody's already mentioned the Poppy Z. Brite book, and that's an excellent author. I've not read that book specifically, but I did read Drawing Blood quite a while ago and enjoyed it.

There's an author, Michael Schiefelbein, who writes a lot of gay vampire books. I haven't read any, so I can't be much of a critic.

Also, Tanya Huff has two vampire series (one has BLOOD in the title of all the books and isn't as gay as the other, which has books like Smoke and Mirrors). Again, I've not read them, but I've read other things by Ms. Huff and she's splendid.

I feel somewhat of a failure with this question, because I'm actually in the process of writing a collection of short stories that revolve around my take on the gay vampire idea... and I've read so little gay vampire literature! It doesn't bode well for me...

In any case, though, enjoy the recommendations!

N.S. (nsberanek) | 14 comments Hey Matthew, I know how you feel. I'm finishing a serious, contemporary gay coming-of-age/love story between a human protagonist and a vampire. Most times I am afraid to tell people what I am writing about *not* because of the gay theme, but because the obvious conclusion they draw is "gay vampire romance" and I've never found anything called that that I actually like!

I plan to check out Michael Schiefelbein soon. I'll let you know.

Mike | 1 comments I just read Late Night Boyfriends (reviewed here by me) and Midnight Hunger (amazon link) and enjoyed both of these recently released anthologies. Midnight Hunger is the third "Midnight" anthology by Kensington and while it has only three stories (all long) it is one of the best of the three.

Late Night Boyfriends has 13 tales, which varied in quality but all were great new twists on the vampire genre with what I call satisfying endings. Well worth a read. It's new and I have only found it on Amazon.com.

Damian Serbu (damianserbu) | 5 comments Hi All,

It may seem self serving, and I suppose that it is, but my first novel was recently published, about a gay vampire. It's set during the French Revolution.

The Vampire's Angel

I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about it! Damian Serbu

Michael | 3 comments I also suggest Michael Schiefelbein's books. I really enjoyed them.

I recently read Notturnoand enjoyed it.

Damian Serbu (damianserbu) | 5 comments I'm current reading Midnight Hunger. It's a set of three novellas, with gay erotic tales of the vampire. A fun read!

Clairwil Oh (clairwiloh) | 1 comments Hi Daley,
You might like The House of Debauch, which I published through Amazon Kindle and Wowio Comics (PDF with color illustrations). It has a very fun gay vampire, Zunker Blaisdale-Debauch, who comes into his sexuality just as he discovers that he has been transformed into a vampire. This book will appeal to you if you like vintage books, as it is written in an old-fashioned style. The story is set in 1909 New Orleans. It is full of details from Louisiana history to Creole cooking, but now and then the story slides off into dark, forbidden corners to describe the naughty adventures of various members of the Debauch family. The stylist, wild-hearted Zunker runs amok in the French Quarter while his tormented sister, Clairwil, remains at the family mansion to clean up the disaster that is left behind when vampire infiltrate the family.

Red Haircrow (redhaircrow) | 23 comments Greetings,

Well, it's one of my own, and the first in a series...the second book is forthcoming Summer 2011. It's been reviewed positively, although I know everyone has their individual tastes.

Katrdeshtr's Redemption Katrdeshtr's Redemption (The Night Cat, #1) by Red Haircrow

The central character is Katrdeshtr, a Russian vampire who has been described as "multi-faceted, powerful, seductive, immortal, and mysterious natures. Moody, bored, and restless, Katrdeshtr takes pleasure in killing. He was saved from a grave illness and given the gift of eternal life by his on-again, off-again lover, Tal Trieska. Both men have endured hardships and being together for too many years has leached the passion out of their relationship. As Kat looks to relieve his boredom, and Tal becomes enchanted with a golden-haired beauty named Evangelina, their troubles really begin...."

Official description: "Ancient, brutal beauty, Katrdeshtr the Night Cat, Russian vampire and incorrigible mischief maker turns to old pleasures to relieve his eternal boredom, yet when his sometimes partner finds a new love, satisfaction takes on new meaning. This change of events can only end in someone's eternal death and Kat doesn't intend for it to be him!"

For other writers who've listed their works on this thread, an interesting project I began for my character Katrdeshtr is drawing more attention to the work. I created a fictional character page for him on Facebook where he can interact with readers in a more real-time way. It's a lot of fun! You might want to consider it for yours.

'Nathan Burgoine I'll suggest Masters of Midnight: Erotic Tales of the Vampire as great, Jeff Mann's story alone (his Scottish vampire, Derek Maclaine, is freaking fantastic, and appears in a variety of short stories in various collections) would be worth the book purchase.

There's also Blood Sacraments, in which I'll admit I have a short story included, but has another of the Derek Maclaine stories as well as a lot of other really solid gay vampire tales.

Jon (jon_michaelsen) | 37 comments Nathan and others; I've loved Jeff Mann's writing for years - he's a sure bet! I wanted to mention the current novel I'm reading, Ink, It's a novel expanded from the original novella INK, about a Roman centurion named, Dominic, who hasn't lived as a human since the time of Hadrian. In the life of a vampire in the centuries since, he’s witnessed much change in the world, but finds himself captivated with a young tattoo artist in Melbourne, Australia. A very alluring, seductive novel of desire between vampire and his male object of attraction.

My thoughts so far is this is an elegant m/m paranormal (vampire) romance - classic centuries old vampire falls for a young, sexy and funny, male mortal in modern Australia. Not an Anne Rice'esque type novel - but good...

message 19: by 'Nathan (new)

'Nathan Burgoine Hey Jon - s'been a while, but I thought I'd mention Desire and Devour, Stories of Blood and Sweat has come out. Most of the Derek Maclaine stories are collected in the one book, and two new ones - including Derek's time with Angus, back in 1717. :)

Jericho Phoenix (jerichophoenix) | 1 comments I actually wrote a gay vampire short story a long time ago. It was obviously about a vampire who was pursuing with a guy who revealed to be HIV+ (It was for an HIV themed project and all proceeds would've gone to an organization studying to cure HIV. It was so long ago, so I can't remember which one.) The project was canceled but I still kept the story.
