Tell us about yourself and what you like to read.

message 2: by Deelylah (new)

Deelylah Mullin (vampbard) | 2 comments YAY! A group to discuss reading! I read a lot of romance. Pretty much any genre. Occasionally, I find myself reading for work (YA or canon lit) since by day I'm a mild-mannered (*snort*) Language Arts teacher in an alternative school. My ninja self snuggles under a blanket reading while waiting for my kids (most of the time).

message 3: by Becky (new)

Becky (beccabye) | 51 comments I'm an avid reader. I like to read romance, historicals, paranormal, action/adventure, erotica and depending on the writer YA. I am not into the first person writing style and really wish they came with a warning especially when written by an author I've previously read that did not write in that format. I think it has to do with the fact that I just can not get into a storyline as well that has one view point for everyone. That's pretty much it for me, it's all working, reading and occasionally spending time with my grandbaby.

message 4: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Fournier (ilionpeach) | 4 comments Hi everyone...my name is Sharon, and I am addicted to reading Historical Romances!! At one time, I owned over 4000 "real" books. Then hubby and youngest son bought me a Kindle, so I donated all my books to libraries and Senior Centers. Now I have about 2000 books on my kindle. I use to only buy books by authors I knew and liked, since books were so costly. Love that I can now download a lot of "new" authors (at least to me) for little or no money. In my "spare" time, I love to crochet and spend time with my grandsons. Since I retired in April 2013, I now also help my daughter and son-in-law out at their little second-hand store three days a week

message 5: by Kymberlee (new)

Kymberlee | 3 comments I am an avid reader. I read a little bit of everything. I try not to pigeon-hole myself and/or get stuck in a rut, reading wise. I don't know how much I'll be able to read the first 3 or 4 months of the year due to the fact that I work in an income tax (aka hell on earth) related field. Not the IRS.

message 6: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn (mari311) | 1 comments Hi everyone, I'm Marilyn! I love reading in my spare time, even more than watching tv. I enjoy paranormal romance, historical romance, anything romance! I also enjoy mystery/suspense and some YA. I'm an elementary school teacher, so my best time to read is at night. I would love to go into editing sometime!

message 7: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Hey all, I'm Michelle. My favorite genre is Historical Romance, then contemporary erotica, and some paranormal romance. I try to stay away from the trilogies that follow the same couple, preferring the change of characters and stories. I read day and night and rarely watch tv.

message 8: by Erica (new)

Erica (ericaleigh11) Hi! I'm Erica a voracious reader, aspiring writer, fairly skilled knitter and lover of food. I always liked to read, but didn't really start loving to read until I found my first romance in my early teens. Since then I've primarily stuck to the romance genre, but have recently branched out. I'm on a little bit of a YA kick and have surprisingly found myself enjoying memoir type non-fiction. A few years ago I went back to school and my "for fun" reading dropped way, way down. I finished my studies in June and have been reading like crazy to catch up. I love GoodReads and am a bit of a reading nerd who has kept a spreadsheet of the books I own and read for a long time.

message 9: by Michelle (new)

Michelle @ Erica. I do the same with the spread sheet and have my own rating system. I started it before I found goodreads and now mainly just use goodreads. I used to think I was the only book nerd who did that lol

message 10: by Erica (new)

Erica (ericaleigh11) Michelle wrote: "@ Erica. I do the same with the spread sheet and have my own rating system. I started it before I found goodreads and now mainly just use goodreads. I used to think I was the only book nerd who did..."

@Michelle - haha! Glad to know I have company. It really stared out of necessity because I kept buying the same books over. I still use my spreadsheet, but now use GoodReads as my main source. :)

message 11: by Sjoukje (new)

Sjoukje Hi everyone!
I am a complete book addict and as long as there is romance and a happy ending, I can read it.
I have had to narrow my TBR pile to my 15 fav authors and even so I am struggling to read everything they have published! I never leave the house without my eReader and am always enjoying a sneak read wherever I can, on the bus, while on break at work etc... I am a complete bookaholic and I love it :)

message 12: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Melo (sheila_melo) | 4 comments I am an avid reader -- especially of romances (although I do read just about anything). I've been reading romances for over 25 years. At sixteen, I used to sneak my mom's books and hide on the floor in my room reading them. At one time, I owned thousands of books. Since I switched to Kindle, I've pared down to several hundred, but I own thousands on my Kindle. I re-read frequently and I especially like to re-read entire series when a new book in the series comes out.

message 13: by Millie (new)

Millie (milliefromphilly) | 36 comments I've been busy with other things for the past few years and haven't been reading much. In the meantime my TBR pile has continued to grow and the guilt over that has actually made it harder for me to sit down and read. Like others here I have pretty much abandoned physical books in favor of a Kindle and I love the ability to try a new author for little or no cost. It sounds like lots of the other members of this group have similar tastes to mine in books and I'm hoping to get some good recommendations for new books to try.

message 14: by Fabiola (last edited Dec 29, 2013 10:54AM) (new)

Fabiola Chenet (fabiola_chenet) | 178 comments Hi all, I'm Fabiola. I'm a reader, a new published author but only in French so don't look for my books in English and I work in a website called Les Romantiques which is dedicated to Romance and Women Fiction. So I read books for myself and for my Les Romantiques goodreads account (partnership with HarperCollins and Netgalley). I read books and ebooks and I read more Romance books than others, and I read all its subgenres, it depends on the author. I read in French and English. Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins, in 2013, I discovered new authors that I intend to follow.

Jess Michaels (jessmichaelsbks) | 447 comments Mod
So I'm Jess Michaels, the moderator for this group. I'm also a writer, I write erotic historical romance. My 41st book came out in November and if you click my name or picture, it should take you to my Goodreads author page if you're interested in my backlist or upcoming books.

As far as a reader, I've been woefully bad about reading the past few years. Writing so much takes a lot of time and I often find myself watching TV or movies rather than reading just to give my brain a break. I read 25 books in 2013 (according to Goodreads... well it will be 25 after today since my husband and I will finish a book we're reading together). A mix of romance, nonfiction, fiction, really anything. But I think I can do better and am adding Read to my to do list every day. :) Thanks for joining this group and I hope we have a really fun time this year sharing our reads!!

message 16: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Gurrieri I'm Caitlin. I love to read. Favorite authors are Jennifer Armentrout and Colleen Hoover I get in as much reading as possible.

message 17: by Denise (new)

Denise (deniselynn) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Denise and I used to read something every day. Not so much anymore. I was going over my "resolution" list and this is excellent timing - thanks!

message 18: by Evie (new)

Evie North | 11 comments I'm Evie North and I love reading. I'm also a writer of erotic historical romance--hi Jess! Unfortunately sometimes the two just don't go together, but when I have a moment you'll always find me with a book in my hand. I read most things, romance, nonfiction, crime...yes, most things. I prefer a happy ending but if the book is a good one I can tolerate an unhappy ending, or one that leaves you feeling a bit unsatisfied. But happy is best.

message 19: by Alisha (new)

Alisha (regencygirl01) | 6 comments I am Alisha and I am a voracious reader. Read mostly romance. I like historical(regency, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, western....) Contemporary, just don't read paranormal(werewolves, vampires, shapeshifters, etc.) type books to often. I don't mind the type Jayne Ann Krentz writes. I like the arcane society.

message 20: by Dabney (new)

Dabney (thepassionatereader) I'm Dabney. I'm a reader of romance and other genres, a reviewer (at All About Romance), and author interviewer and I have my own blog, the passionate reader.

message 21: by Eran (new)

Eran (eranodonnal) Hello! My name is Eran and I am a bookaholic! I love romance in the sci-fi, paranormal genre but I particular look for stories with tall heroines. I also like M/M romance particularly Cardeno C and Amber Kell. I am rarely without my Kindle. :)

message 22: by Lori (new)

Lori Meehan (lorimeehan) | 28 comments My name is Lori Meehan I love reading romance and all of its sub genres. Historical's are my favorite I love highlanders and cowboys. Paranormal romance is next and if it's a historical paranormal romance I'm over joyed. I've been married for 18 years and I've known my husband for longer then I didn't know him and we have 5 four legged fur babies.

message 23: by Blondie (new)

Blondie (blonde76) | 4 comments Hi I am a bookaholic also. I read whenever and wherever possible. I am also addicted to downloading free books. I now refer to my kindle as a black hole because I have so many free books. My tbr is now longer then my read shelf. My favorite genre is Historical Erotic Romance so I am a huge Jess Michaels fan. Unfortunately I am on a budget so I only buy under $3. books and I try to buy longer books so I have more book for my money. I miss out on a lot of really good books by my favorite authors though. However I have discovered a lot of new authors this way. I am a big historical romance fan I especially love the old boddicerippers. Erotica and BDSM are also favorites of mine. I recently started reading action adventure. I absolutely LOVE an alpha male. If I can combine mmf and historical romance I am loving it Samantha Kane and Kate Pearce are great writers in this genre.

I am trying to get into beta reading I think that would be great use of my time. I also read to review whenever I can it is a great opportunity to read books I can not normally afford.

message 24: by April (new)

April (aprilcos) | 2 comments Hi everyone! My name is April Cosgrove and I love to read romance, but will read anything that is recommended to me! I am reading any time I get a chance. I am a sixth grade teacher and I also run the middle shcool book club, so I try to stay up to speed on teen fiction too. My kindle is overloaded with books at all times! I am addicted to free books!

message 25: by Ezrah (new)

Ezrah (I Heart Romance) (mynameisezrah) | 10 comments Jumping in to say hi! My name is Ezrah and I have been reading since I was in grade school. I read anything except horror, espionage, and non-fiction however, I mostly read Romance. I prefer historicals, historical erotic, and a few contemporaries. I maintain a blog called I Heart Romance (www.eyeheartromance.com) and I love to review books! :)

I'm also a member of a few author street teams.

Welcome everyone! I'm excited to get to know each other better over the next year, though some of you are old friends (hi everyone!!). Still waiting for Goodreads to get their goal tracker up for 2014 but I'll post it in announcements when it comes up!

message 28: by Alisa (new)

Alisa Hilde | 2 comments Hi my name is Alisa--I like historical (mostly regency) romances and fantasy/paranomal. This year I set a goal of 100 books to read and ended up reading 212...so I'm hoping to top that! :)

message 29: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimlim_n) | 4 comments Yay! Hi, I'm Kim. I think this would be a great group to be active in and be a part of. I'm so excited to share my reading list for 2014 and I hope I could get some great reads from you guys :)

message 30: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimlim_n) | 4 comments by the way, I forgot to mention this in my previous comment.

I love reading adult urban fantasy novels. I also read YA but that is still on hold. I read some historical romance, as well.

message 31: by Charlene (new)

Charlene Williams reiser | 7 comments Hi I am Charlene and I have become a total bookaholic, I have to admit I did not start reading like I do now until I read 50 Shades of Grey at the encouragement of my oldest daughter, lol.. I have read according to Goodreads 137 books this year even though I think it has been more than that, my Nook stays with me at all time. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this group!!

message 32: by Karla (last edited Jan 01, 2014 08:05AM) (new)

Karla Brandenburg I'm an author and mother of two, grandmother of two, cat lover. I have a fabulous husband and am living my happily ever after!

I'm a fan of historical romance, but I like a well-written book regardless of its pigeonhole. Read some very interesting "out of my radar" books this last year and hoping to read more in 2014. I do have a book blog, in addition to the day job and the author thing.

Thanks for inviting me, Jess.

KillerBookMarketing (killerbookmktg) | 1 comments Hello everyone, I'm Mike. I read a ton of non-fiction business books (Exciting right?) and really want to read more fiction in 2014. I like most genres, but am taking a break from depressing literary fiction - my first few books of the year will be fun, light reads.

Jennifer - Martini Times Romance (jenclark) Hey everyone, Im Jennifer. Like everyone else I have a love affair with my kindle. My need to have a say and discuss the books I read led me to land a spot working at a book blog. I review for the blog and read on my own. I average around 200 books a year, and if I could ditch all my responsibilities and read for a living I would! I am glad to be a part of a reading group however, because through blogging I have discovered that no on wants to actually discuss the books, everyone wants a blurb recap with no spoilers and it drives me bananas. My husband is sick to death of hearing about romance novels and I have few friends that are avid readers so I need an outlet! I read romance novels, I love suspenseful and dark stories, Im attracted to he taboo and to anything that gets my heart racing. I generally shy away from YA, I don't quite feel right about reading about high school kids having sex, and I prefer more mature emotions and situations. I also cant really get into any paranormal or fantasy. Ive tried out a few and none of them did it for me.

message 35: by Lara (new)

Lara Lacombe Hi--thanks for the invitation!

My name is Lara, and I write romantic suspense (you can check out my author page if you want to know more about my books). As a reader, I LOVE romance novels--pretty much any genre will work, but I especially enjoy paranormal and contemporary. I'm also getting more into cozy mysteries.

Looking forward to this challenge, and chatting with you all about books! :)

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone! My name is Kathy and I too am an avid reader! I read every single day! Love it! Never read much before I got my 1st Kindle 2 years ago but ever since I read 50 Shades of Grey.....I got hooked! I read mostly romance and suspense. I read about 1-3 books per week depending on how much I play tennis! Lol! Thanks for the invite and I look forward to discussing great books with you all!

message 37: by Kim (new)

Kim (kncmurray) | 2 comments Hi! My name is Kim, I read just about anything. I read about 3-4 books a week depending on my schedule. I am usually sleep deprived....LOL.

message 39: by Kyra (new)

Kyra Dune (kyradune) | 3 comments My name is Kyra and I'm a fantasy writer. I love to read fantasy and light science fiction, some horror too. I read every day and right now I have over three hundred books in my TBR pile. Even though I adore print books, I was so glad to get a Kindle for my birthday in 2013 because I've been forbidden to bring any more physical books into the house until I read the ones I have.

message 40: by Lady (new)

Lady (shyalwayz) | 253 comments @ Erica and Michelle. Nope I do the same thing too. But I also kinda have a wishlist added to the books I own.

Hey. My name is Lady. I love reading. I read mostly romance and erotica books. I mostly read on the Kindle now a days because I was told I could not buy anymore books for a while. But that's ok I still do buy books just for free now.

I started my reading obsession after 50 shades also.

message 43: by Keisha (new)

Keisha Carpenter (keishacarpenter) | 8 comments My name is Keisha and I'm a huge book nerd! I will read about any type of Romance. My favorite is NA and Paranormal Romance. I read about any chance I can get, so with 3 kids it's usually after they are gone to bed.

message 44: by Laura (new)

Laura Reed (reedster626) Hello everyone! My name is Laura and I love mostly gritty bittersweet romances. Sometimes I dip into paranormal but usually stay away from it. I can't get enough of romance stories, but I tend to veer away from YA ones. I like abrasive, dark, real love stories that I can cry and laugh to.

message 45: by Colleen (new)

Colleen | 3 comments I'm a reader. How much I read depends in work schedule. I vary from Christian romance to erotic and everything in between . I love ebooks due to living in the middle of nowhere but for certain authors gotta have the real book.

A few minutes ago my son told me I read too much. Is that even possible!?!?! LOL. Well I am happy to be apart of this group. I love seeing and reading about what others are reading so I can add to my tbr. I read almost everything but for the most part romance is what I generally stick with. Happy reading everyone!

message 50: by Julie (new)

Julie Clarahan (booklady1701) | 2 comments I think I must read more than I do anything else. I'll read just about anything, although I'd rather not read non-fiction. I read across all genres. I'm the volunteer librarian at a private school where I live. This is a great job for me since I get to read to kids from grades K-5 every week. I want to instill a love for reading in every child I meet. The term bibliophile describes me in every way.
