I thought the release of Snow White and The Huntsman might have triggered the decision or influenced it, Sandy. http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0239728/
I remember hearing about this and getting very excited for it in 2012. It seemed such a long wait, but 2014 has come round so quickly! Not a huge fan of Angelina Jolie, but I do think this type of role suits her more than other things I've seen her in.
I'm going to be interested in this, "Into the Woods," and Branaugh's "Cinderella" in 2015. I doubt it can touch "Ever After," though.
I am very very excited about it I love all the previews and Angelina is one of my favorite actresses

There is a free Itunes App game for this movie. It looks like a crystal matching game thing. Not sure if there is a version avaible for Amazon Kindle fires.
Sounds like a fun game, Chris.I was just thinking about this movie the other day - opens May 28th. I have free tickets, which means can't see it until a week or two after.
So really looking forward to mid June! :)
I think I am going to see it opening weekend. A friend really wants to see it, and I said I would go. Jolie is always awesome.
Sure thing, Alicia.I was planning to do a short movie review of this one to include in my next newsletter and on my blog - will remember to copy a link to that here, too.
I hear you. Hate people who kick the back of the chair most. :)But have to say, I also like being among a crowd when something great is on the big screen. There's something fun about group excitement. That "Ah" gasp of breath or the instantaneous laughter that sets other people off.
I'll put more a more former review up later or at least a link to one because I truly don't think I can write a review of the movie without spoilers.
But what I liked.
1. Jolie (but who doesn't?). She was awesome here. I think she should president.
2. Aurora. It would have been very easy and understandable to make Sleeping Beauty into a standard passive princess. While she does not whack people with swords or magic, she is given strength - an important strength. You can also understand why she is loved.
3. The twist is a little easy to see, espeically in regards if you have seen Frozen. However, I love the comments on true love that the twist makes.
4. The acting is really good. Everyone is good. There are some really good points - like the Queen who really doesn't have much to do but is able to conveay a great deal in her face during a crucial scene.
5. Set design is good. It nods both to the original as well as to the movie version of Company of Wolves.
6. I like the design of the dragon, horse, and wolf.
7. Did see it with a pretty good crowd. Lots of cheering at points.

I would really love to see this! I might have to wait until it's out on DVD or Netflicks however.

Welcome Alicia. Jalilah, I had my doubts before seeing it, but it was worth it.

Thanks Chris, like Alicia, I'm going to wait until I see it to read the full review but I did skim it and loved your last line. :)
I'm not a Jolie fan, but I love fairy tales and my 15 year old daughter was really stoked to see this one, so we went on June 8th. It was fantabulous! Definitely worth seeing in the theater.
I'm going tomorrow!!! I can hardly wait. Except I'm damping down my excitement because I don't want to have too high an expectation. I'm going to pretend it's going to be terrible, so I can be thrilled when I'm wrong. :)

You're lucky Leah! My son, now 16, does not want not be seen with me at a showing of a Fairy Tale movie! I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD. My friends with older kids all tell me this ( being ashamed to see a " chick flick" with his mother) will change when he gets older. I hope so!

I'm just waiting for the day I go in for a hug and I get the dreaded Mooom!! accompanied by "the look".
But I hear the same thing with mothers and sons. I'm sure once he's older, he'll go with you. :D
I finally had a chance to see this movie, which I've been looking forward to since December 2013.Here's my take on the film, which is not as high as Chris's, but then opinions are, by virtue, subjective, so take it with a grain of salt.
No spoilers.
My Short Movie Review of Maleficent
I missed a few minutes in the beginning because I was in the bathroom but everything else I absolutely loved minus the ending ( I won't spoil it) but I even loved the lighting the costumes the backgrounds everything was super amazing
So... I only just finally saw this movie. I wasn't expecting much from it, and I suppose it was a bit better than I expected. What I just can't get past, though, is the question of why someone whose name literally means "evil" has this whole new backstory explaining that first she was good, then she was angry, then she was good again. Never really evil. And we can't say that this was just the name she was called by the humans -- it is her birth name! I just can't find a way to explain that little issue away.

Trailer looks intriguing.
Definitely going to go see this one.
