Near the end of 2014 I've slotted in a book called Skylark DuQuesne as one of the side reads. I thought it might be fun to read all five 1966 nominees since three would end up winning Hugo Awards.

DuQuesne is part four of a series of novels, and I've discovered the first quite by accident on Librivox. I picked it up because I liked the narrator and saw it described as the first space opera. The title is Skylark of Space, it has a character named DuQuesne, but it took me a few days to put one-and-one together as to what I was listening to.

So if you're interested, it's available for the low low price of free, and it's one of the better narrators I've encountered on LibriVox (if you enjoy his style, I've also been listening to his versions of the Oz books, for which his delivery is perhaps better suited).

The Skylark of Space (Version 2)

There is another version by a narrator I haven't listened to, who has also recorded book two of the quadrilogy. Unfortunately that's it for free audio, books three and four are still under copyright protection.
