Here are a few discussion questions for everyone to think about (Please remember to use spoiler tags as appropriate to your answer, even if the question didn't contain spoilers. Thanks!):
1) What's your favorite part of the comic? Least favorite?
2) Is Orio a compelling lead? What do you think of the supporting cast?
3) How do you like the art? Does it enhance the story being told?
4) How do you feel about the longish sections without dialog? Are they effective?

Me too! I had never heard of this comic and stumbled upon the kickstarter they ran to print book one. Just seeing the sample art made me want to check it out without knowing anything about the story.
I love the sections without dialogue. They say a picture's worth a thousand word, and this comic just proves that.It keeps the story moving, keeps dialogue from muddling things up (I find webcomics especially can get dialogue heavy and be a real turn off), and when people DO speak, you stop and listen. There's no glazing over important dialogue because in this manga if it exists, it's important.

Authors that are confident enough to get out of the way and let the story proceed at its own pace and its own manner make me very happy. Like you say some lack of dialog can aid a comic so much. It works wonderfully in the manga A Bride's Tale and I love it here too.

Yeah, the coloring is really well done. The first part has a great feel to it in the first place, and then when Orio goes outside into the city to meet her liaison the palette changes noticeably but still has the same general feel. There's more nice subtle touches and tweaks to the coloring later too.

Just continued on and read all of Paper Tigers that is out. Wow. Not at all where I would have predicted the story went next but it's logical, interesting and wonderfully done. I adore this comic more and more the further I get. Now comes the painful waiting...
Discussions questions:
1) As I mentioned above I love the coloring and the general style of the comic. The characters are fantastic too. I really don't have a least favorite part yet. I desperately want to know more about how their world works, the significance of the pocket watches, etc but the pacing is excellent so that's just me being impatient.
2) Orio is a great lead and you can't help but get draw in to her world. Likewise the supporting cast, with Bauble (of course) and Margo being particularly engaging / amusing.
3) and 4) I've answered in detail in previous posts. Short version - the art is wonderful and the dialogless sections are a great strength of the comic.

I must say I do like the art style, it's quite unique. As for the limited dialogue, I find this interesting. It makes the comic itself very quick to read, and keeps it fast paced... however, a lot less seems to have gone on than I have seen in other comics of a similar length. I suppose this is because we have seen a lot less character interaction and information spewing (as there are few conversations) which limits how complex things can get. It's still nice to see how they do interact though (especially Orio and Bauble, as their interaction doesn't involve words on either side) and I'm interested to see where the plot is going.
Mike wrote: "The scene where Margo straightens that out is easily one of my favorites in the comic."Oh, I loved that page too. XD I like Margo.
It was really interesting in first chapter but the story didn't captured me. Other that I like the drawning style.

Dresden Codak was like that for me. Great art and an interesting world but I just couldn't get into it.

If anyone is continuing with Hinges and would like to discuss the comic as it comes out we have a thread for it in our Webcomic Updates Discussion folder.
It's just been announced on the website that Image will be publishing a trade paperback of Hinges Book 1! :) Great news for a deserving comic.
