Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments first poem idea that came to mind randomly:

I feel the thoughts, so rare and hollow,
I say the words I dare not swallow
my mind is buzzing as I begin
with so much meaning sizzling within
I mustn't shout,
but I dare not whisper
I mustn't cry,
but I dare not whimper
my heart is beating with nature's glow,
my being is shaking from head to toe
if I move,
will my spot be taken?
if I do,
is my heart mistaken?
I fear rejection,
and expectation.
I must show what I can see
but what if that is not what I am made to be?
the leader nor follower,
the speaker nor listener,
the competitor nor bystander,
I am me
who I want to be
why can't anyone see?
there are no words to describe my soul,
no art that can draw my path.
there is only one word to describe,
what I truly am inside.
I am me.

***that was so cheesy and random but words just started rushing in my head so I felt the need to write them down before they threatened to consume me...if that makes sense.

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments the sound in my head is worse than the one in my ears,
I try to cry but I'm all out of tears.
it's hard enough to face these fears,
with little time, so little years.

***that was another one I just made up out of nowhere. where it's all this poetry coming from? lol

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments ***This is an actual chapter, and I have the whole story on GR.

Forbidden

How did I get here?

I am in a dark room with red liquid pooling, staining my fingertips. Moonlight trickled through a small window and lightened the cold, concrete floor where I am lying. I could hear voices. They sounded cheerful, yet fake. By that, I mean that the cheeriness was false. I know because I recognize this tone.

Wait, what?

I don't recall anything. So I try. Try to remember.

***

"Stop it!" I shrieked with laughter in the darkness.

Liam picked me up and carried me across the boardwalk. I burried my head in his neck and tried to stop laughing. My hands gripped his shirt tightly. I didn't want to let go.

"Aright, Morgan!" he said.

I dug my head deeper in his neck and tried to muffle a scream I felt rising. My swimsuit pinched my sides as he lifted me up and threw me in the lake water. I made a huge splash. He chuckled, took off his shirt, and jumped in, too.

I turned away from the splash and giggled. Before I knew it, he grabbed me and tickled me until I couldn't breathe. Therefore I was thrashing in the water. Then Liam finally let go and I swam to take hold of the edge of the boardwalk for support.

"Liam?" I said, recovering from laughing so much.

"Yeah?" he responded.

"It's COLD!" I shivered.

Smiling, he pulled me close to him. I wrapped myself around his warm, yet wet body. He kissed me once, then I rested my head on his shoulder, staring at the moon's blurry reflection on the water.

***

A single teardrop falls from my eye, but I force myself to continue the memory. I've avoided my past too often. Not backing out now.

***

Eventually, we got out of the freezing water and got on our clothes on as soon as we dried off with the towels we brought. Liam put his arm around my waist and kissed the top of my head as we walked away from the glowing lake. Liam drove us back to his house in his parents' car. We said goodnight and from there I walked home, which was just across the street, smiling uncontrollably.

When I walked in, my parents were fighting. Not arguing, fighting. They hadn't noticed I'd come in because they were too busy screaming in the kitchen. I dropped my towel on the couch in the living room and listened to them.

"Morgan deserves better than this," my mom said, her voice suddenly quiet after screaming.

My dad sighed.

I sat down on one of the bar stools we had at the kitchen counter. Then they realized I was there. As soon as they did, they looked at each other worriedly and then back at me.

"How much of that did you hear?" my mom asked.

I shrugged. "Not much. What-What's going on?"

My father shook his head. "Nothing you need to concern yourself with...yet."

"She needs to know!" my mother protested.

I looked at them both expectantly.

"I don't care," my mom continued. "what you think about this. But your mistake will not go on in secret anymore. She has a right to know. And she loves you. She won't judge you."

My eyebrows raised in question and in interest.

"I know. But do you really think she will ever look at you the same ever again? She's lived a lie for sixteen years. Why come out now?" My dad retorted.

They must've forgotten completely that I was here.

My mother then looked at me with sadness. "She can decide that for herself."

We all sat in the living room. My dad came in reluctantly, my mom with hope in her eyes but also with determination and relief. But I, was totally and all completely confused with every drop of blood in my body.

Oh wait. Oh god no. Please no. No, no, no, no, no. It couldn't be! Could it? I thought back to all of those movies where the main character goes through the same thing I am right now. This is always when they find out they were adopted.

Oh, hell no. Please...

"Morgan," my dad started. "Seventeen years ago I made a terrible mistake, and perhaps it is time for you to know about it."

No!!!!!!!

"What?" I asked eagerly.

"You know that boy next door?"

What? Where is this going?! Are they talking about...Liam?

I shook my head.

My mom took over. "There's a boy that lives across the street named Liam."

Dad raised his hand to my mom. "Seventeen years ago I dated his mother, LeAnn."

Uh...what?!!

Mom glared at Dad. "While we were married, might I add."

I stared at them with shock...wordless.

"Sweetheart," Dad murmured, then got louder. "You are LeAnn's daughter."

Looking from the person I used to call Mom, then to my dad and back again, I felt tears running down my face as anger boiled in my chest and pain in my head. But I wiped away the few tears and got up, passing my 'parents' and going upstairs without a word. I tried not to hurry, for my own dignity and for the sake of NOT having a dramatic exit as they do in movies.

But just as I closed my bedroom door behind me, I jumped onto my bed and dug into my pillow with my face, clawing at the sheets. Yes, I, Morgan Hester, was crying. Yet silently.

Maybe if I fell asleep, I would wake up and realize it was a dream. But that never happens. Never. Not for me.

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments ***This is the first chapter of a story I just started. I've really wanted some input on it. So read, if you like:)

How To Save a Life

Alyrica grabbed on to Marcie's hand but she could feel herself slipping away. She could almost imagine falling, tumbling onto rocks and landing with a thud into the stream. She tried not to think about the danger her life was in. She had to keep focused on Marcie, and his grip on her hand.

The early morning sun shone upon seven-year-old Alyrica's soft face. Her blue eyes looked to the sky, searching for something. But she didn't know what. Her dark brown hair fell down to her untouched skin and swayed around her shoulders.

Her blue dress, matching her blue headband, tried to follow the breeze that was practically begging Alyrica to come along. Where? She didn't know yet.

Alyrica didn't know a lot of things. She didn't know why the sun went to sleep at night, or why stars didn't fall from their heavenly perch. All kids were taught the same, very simple things. Girls played Tea Party, boys had cooties, mommies gave kisses, and daddies worked all day. That was all she'd known and really cared to know.

But if there was one thing Alyrica had learned in her short lifetime, it was that nothing was what it should be. Because in her world, girls played Dodge ball(with rocks), boys were fun, Mommy stayed in bed all day, and Daddy was yet to be discovered among all the possible men out there.

Right now, sitting in her front yard on the dark green grass, you'd expect to see a white picket fence and lilies and dandelions and tulips. What Alyrica saw was an empty street filled with empty houses and broken windows. Sure, she was dressed royally, but that didn't mean she lived in a rich neighborhood.

Gramma bought Alyrica's clothes, fed her cookies, and gave her rides to school. That's just the way it was. Mommy stayed in her room all day.

And that was okay.

Alyrica was perfectly content spending her Saturdays weaving the blades of grass through her fingers and staring into the cloudy sky while her dress got nice and grass-stained.

But, even though she was content, she was seeking adventure every day.

She waited while Marcie darted to her driveway.

"Alyrica! Alyrica!" he called.

The plaid shirt his momma ironed for him was starting to wrinkle as he pulled it out of its place tucked in his jeans. He never liked the way his mother dressed him. Most seven year old boys don't.

She looked up. "Marcie."

He jumped onto her lawn, his eyes as playful as fish in a pond. "C'mon! My papa told me there was baby foxes in the woods. Let's go find 'em!"

Alyrica twirled her hair, catching onto the pretty blue ribbon. "Okay. But Gramma says cookies will be ready in a' hour."

Marcie smiled and pulled her arm to lift her up. Together they sped down the sidewalk, not caring if their shoes wore away or if their clothes got dirty or torn.

They leaped down the familiar path that lead away from the snaking street and into the trees. They had to sneak under Mrs. Gauvernikki's fence, but they found themselves straying into the trees.

Not really lost, though. They've come this way several times before. This time was sure to be no different. The last time they came here, they climbed a tree and Marcie almost fell off the middlemost branch.

The leaves were starting to turn color now. Few had fallen to the earth, and when Alyrica stepped on them, they crackled. The leaves that still remained on the trees stirred in the warm breeze and whispered secrets of kids coming here before them.

Marcie slowed to a walk as they neared the old wooden bridge that stopped being of use three years ago, when the water rose so high here that it flood over the bridge, causing it to collapse on the other end. Right now, the water was a slow-moving creek with hardly enough water for the swimming spiders to skip in. Sometimes you could find little frogs, though.

They ran across the bridge, which they had named the year before: 'Betsie Brown'. Once on the other side, they jumped off and started running again. The old fox nest was beside this creek somewhere...

There. Marcie slowed and crept forward quietly, which was impressive for a seven-year-old boy looking for trouble. Alyrica followed close behind him.

"Marcie, I'm scared," she whispered.

"Shh, you'll wake 'em up," he replied.

Alyrica stepped on a sharp rock.

"Ow!" she yipped.

Marcie's eyes flung open wide as snuffling sounds came from the nest. Alyrica held her breath.

A bunny hopped out.

Alyrica giggled. "Oh, Marcie! That ain't no fox, you- HELP!"

The ground tumbled under Alyrica's feet and she felt herself slipping. She flung her arms to hold on to a tree root that stuck out, but it didn't hold.

She began to scream, but Marcie grabbed her in time.

Alyrica grabbed on to Marcie's hand but she could feel herself slipping away. She could almost imagine falling, tumbling onto rocks and landing with a thud into the stream. She tried not to think about the danger her life was in. She had to keep focused on Marcie, and his grip on her hand.

He was lying on the higher-leveled ground, where it was stable. His other hand was holding onto something she couldn't see.

"Hold on," he said.

Alyrica grunted with the desperation of staying up. Her arms hurt with the effort.

"Marcie..." she pleaded. "Don't...let go."

"I won't!" he assured her, in the little-boy voice he spoke with. "I won't let go! Just hold on. Hold on."

Alyrica whimpered. His grip wasn't strong enough. She slid out of his fingers. And as she did, all she could think was that she would never get to try Gramma's cookies.

"Alyrica!" he called as she fell to the ground.

Her back hit against the ground with a painful thump, but then it was over and she was consumed in darkness.

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments Kay, so here is another excerpt from one of my stories on GR...this one is called My Guardian Angel is Dressed in Red:

*Death walked up to Life and said, "Why does everyone hate me, and love you? Why am I dressed in black while you are dressed in white silk?"
Life answered, "Because you are the ugly truth...and I am a beautiful lie."
Death pulled her black, curled hair back and stared at Life. Life had blonde, wavy hair, and slightly tanned skin. Her smile was welcoming, and the glow around her was almost blinding. She wasn't no angel, though. Life has done more crimes than Death. Death, on the other hand, had pale skin and dark hair. Unlike Life's piercing blue eyes, Death had dark brown eyes.
Life kept smiling, which made Death sort of uncomfortable.
"This isn't a game," Death whispered.
"Of course it is!" Life responded in a shriek of excitement. "You've allowed Mallorie to cheat death dozens of times. So many times, one might think she's immortal."
The two girls hushed and listened to the half-dark, half-light forest around them. The silence in between their thoughts and their words was deafening.
"Immortality is nothing but evil," Death cried. "These lives you've created, these paths you set them upon, it's all just a game. You've made heroes, yet you've made fools. And somehow, it's my responsibility to put everything back in its place. Every time YOU mess up, I have to bring a soul home with me. It's not fair, and you know it! I am blamed for your mistakes."
Life smiled again. "Don't you see? You are the only one who is making every one hate you. YOU choose to take their lives."
Death was burning with anger, but her voice was calm. "That's because if I don't, the world will be filled with evil."
Again, Life tried to be sweet and innocent-looking. "Then why do you take the innocent lives as well as the evil?"
Death shook her head, her black dress of silk flowing like a blurry ribbon in water. "There must be balance. For every evil life, I must take an innocent."
"That is exactly why you are hated. Why can't you just let the innocent live?"
The forest shook around them as if a volcano was going off near by. The spirits were angered.
The two girls were beginning to fade. The sun would come up soon and this meeting would be over.
"I've tried that, remember? When you convinced me to. And now we've created an immortal. And for that, we will regret every waking moment." Death said gravely. "There are deep consequences in store for Mallorie, and for the rest of us. Unless she completes her task before then, we will all suffer. Remember that, sister, when you create yet another life. Because I can see it now: myself, carrying soul after soul into my home while you lead soul after soul into a world on fire."
The sky brightened and the two girls faded completely into mist.*

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments Another excerpt from My Guardian Angel is Dressed in Red:

I ran through the small town with the loaf of stolen bread. I kept going between the small houses, struggling to catch my breath with every yard I ran. Eventually, I came upon an alley and was instantly trapped. I thought about trying to get out and run away somewhere else, but that would only make it easier for the policemen to catch me.
Groaning, I turned around to see the officers who were chasing me come nearer. I threw my head up to gaze at the tops of the walls surrounding me.
I looked to the large brick wall that trapped me in between a bakery and a salon. I didn't think they could arrest a fifteen year old, but I wasn't about to take my chances. I hadn't been caught so far, so why surrender now?
Turning completely around, I waited for the police officers to draw nearer. They shouted at me to stop, little did they know that I had. My dark brown hair, now golden in the light of the setting sun, fell across the left side of my face softly. I didn't bother to move it, because I was pretty sure I looked really cool right now in my torn skinny jeans, black half-sleeve shirt, and my pink ribbon head band that didn't keep my hair out of my face.
The officers were so close now that they reached the alley. They slowed down, now realizing that I had given up the chase. As soon as they came close enough, I dodged to the side and jumped onto a barrel next to the wall of the bakery, also next to the garbage bags. My hair leaped up as I took a large jump to grab the rail that stuck out of the side of the bakery, where I guessed a window was. I hauled myself up, panting. Rolling onto the cement ledge that was about seven feet long, six feet wide, I found myself on my hands and knees, my hair once again in my face, staring down at the cops with my laughing amber eyes.

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments An excerpt from one of my stories: Taken:

The dead silence of night was calming, and yet I found it frightening. You could certainly hear the world as it should be-peaceful and intense. I could hear the buzzing of a bug thrashing it's small body at my bedroom window, above my bed where I lie. I could even hear the whisper of the Summer trees is full bloom. What I couldn't hear was the thrilling chaotic sound of cars on the nearby freeway, with their staring lights and intimidating, unnatural heat. What I longed for the most, though, was the ability to sleep. It was just so...dead.

Suddenly there was a knock at my window. I got out from under my covers, still in my PJs, and curiosity took over as I, without suspicion, peered out my large window to find a boy my age. He looked so cold and vulnerable that I didn't know what to think. Jasmine Dirr didn't know what to think?! That's a first.

He mouthed the words, "HELP ME" and I opened the window.

WAIT! Hold it. I know what you're all thinking. I am sooo stupid. I had nothing better to do than let some stranger in my house, right? Well I will tell you right off that I am completely careless. But not stupid.

I covered the opening with my body.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"You're Mr. Birr's daughter?"

I nodded.

"Can I come in...please?"

Well, what did you expect from a mindless mid-teen without excitement in her life? I want an adventure. And I was gonna get me one. First off, to find out who he is, how he knew who I was, and why he was here.

I let him in and he thanked me.

I put a finger to my mouth to quiet him, signaling to my older sister's room. Yes, I live with my sis. My parents moved away as soon as I was old enough to be left home alone. Thank God for my sis.

"I need your help..." he murmured.

I turned around and starting making my bed, since I couldn't imagine falling asleep for a while. Then I responded in a whisper, "With what?"

Suddenly his cold hands clamped over my mouth, his other hand wrapped around my waist. He pulled me back and pinned me up against the wall.

No, this isn't going where you think it is.

For some odd reason, I wasn't scared though. He didn't seem like the type to do harm at all. Call me crazy, but everything about his aura described 'gentle'. So I kneed him in the stomach and removed his hand from my face, twisting it over his shoulder in the process. Now that he's at his weakest, I pinned him to the ground, my hands trapping him at the shoulders. He couldn't move.

I laughed. This stranger was so confused.

"Rule #1, never underestimate a girl," I said with an evil smile.

He groaned as I kneed him in the side. I was kneeling over him and was prepared for whatever move he pulled on me.

Except for that one.

He pulled me closer to him and KISSED ME! Can you believe that?

I pushed him away, punching him in the chest and therefore winding him.

"Just what do you think you're-"

He grabbed me again. And I'll admit, I lost my balance. There, in the locked position in his arms, he rolled on top of me and I was the one pinned. How weird this was.

"Rule #2, missy, never underestimate a kidnapper."

I threatened to scream to give him away but he took hold of my jaw tightly, and it hurt.

"Ow! Didn't yo' momma ever tell you not to hit a girl?" I mumbled angrily.

He smiled. "And where's your 'momma'? Hmm?"

Struggling in his tight grip, I spit on his hand, which was covering my mouth. He sounded like a like a little kid when he said 'ewww' and wiped his hand on his shirt. Wow, he wasn't very good at this.

I couldn't hold in a sincere laugh. "You're new at this," *giggle* "Aren't you?"

He tried to look mean but it only caused me to start up another series of laughs. "What do you want with me, you bafoon?"

"It's not about what I want with you," he said, emphasizing on 'I'. "It's about what TOR wants with you."

I got up. "What kind of name is TOR?" I asked, saying TOR like I was imitating a retarded version of me.

He might've slapped me right there if I didn't back up. "Don't disrespect The Overall Ruler. He'll have you killed for that kind of talk."

Maybe I shouldn't have rolled my eyes just then?

He grabbed my arm and pushed me onto my bed. Then he yanked me up so that I was standing on my pillow. Nudging me towards the window, he lead me out of my dark and boring house.

"Will you at least tell me your name?" I asked as he came out.

"And why would I do that," he retorted. "I'm not stupid. You'd just turn me in."

Snorting, I added, "I'm not asking for a last name. And how in the world do you expect me to turn you in when you're holding me hostage? I just want to be able to call you something other than 'you'. Unless your name is You."

Closing my window behind him, he shook his head. "You won't be seeing me much from here. So let's stick with 'your kidnapper'."

I followed him out into the park area, and when we got to the forest-like tree area, he stopped and peered into the darkness. I tried to look too, but it was no use. All shadows.

Then a large man came out from hiding. "Good job, son. Give her to me."

Son?

"Son?" I asked my kidnapper in disbelief. "You must get your looks from your mother. Good thing too," I added more quietly.

Maybe I AM stupid. I swear I just beg for danger.

My kidnapper pushed me into his father's arms and the man suddenly pulled out a gun. It made a few clicking sounds before he put it to my head. This is when I began to smart up.

"Wait, why are you doing this?" I asked. "What did I do?"

"Quiet!" the man growled.

My kidnapper looked uncomfortable. "You said you weren't going to kill her..."

The man chuckled humorlessly. "If I told you, you wouldn't have pulled through, would you?"

I silently encouraged my kidnapper to say more, to defend my life. But nothing. Out the corner of my eye, I saw the scary man put his finger on the trigger.

I wasn't ready to die.

"What do you want?" I shouted.

"Your death," he answered simply.

"Why? You owe me an explanation!"

He grumbled. My kidnapper nodded his head. "If you're going to kill her, you owe her that much."

The man was hesitant. Reluctant. Then he said:

"Well Miss. Your folks have money. I want money. It's all part of TOR's plan. Daughter killed, parents warned. Other daughter held hostage, bribery comes in. This is just the start, little honey."

His finger made its way back to the trigger. One...little...move...

"Wait," my kidnapper interrupted. "I gave you what you want. Now let me have what I want out of her. Better we make the most use out of her, right?"

I couldn't believe this. Boys are so dumb. Is he seriously going to use me like that? Can I just die now please?

"That's my son," the man rumbled proudly. He pushed me back over to my kidnapper like I was a tennis ball. I stumbled into his arms and he caught me, before leading me deeper into the woods.

We were really hidden in all the undergrowth before he stopped. Great.

"I'm sorry. I didn't think he would kill you," he said.

I smiled, despite the situation. "Are you apologizing? Seriously? Why?"

He shrugged. "You're pretty courageous. I like that."

"Alright," I said reluctantly. "Let's get this over with then. The sooner it's done with, the better."

There was a rustle in the bushes and I instinctively looked to see what or who it was. When I saw nothing, I looked back to see my kidnapper right next to me. He pulled me to him and kissed me. Am I a bad person for enjoying it?

Then, surprisingly, he stopped. I stared at him with disbelief.

"I was just using that as an excuse," he breathed.

"Excuse?" I said as if processing it slowly.

"Yeah," he said sideways-smiling. "Excuse. I didn't want to see you get killed, even though you ARE a pest. So take advantage of this moment and run. Run," He pointed in the direction opposite of where his father was waiting. "That way. And don't stop. He'll come after you, but I can hold him off for a while."

"Why?" I asked.

He was still so close.

"Like I said, I don't want you to get killed."

I nodded, still staring at him before realizing what was happening. He pushed me in the direction and I ran. I kept running. The forest trees whizzed around me in a blur of dark green and disguised shadows. I saw a street up ahead. There I'd cross. My heart was beating fast and even though the kidnapper gave me a reason, I still couldn't figure out why he let me go.

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments An excerpt from one of my stories: Imperfections:

In the darkness of my room, I had to slowly stumble my way to my dresser to grab my phone and check the time. Rolling up my sweater sleeves and pulling down my shorts so that they weren't crinkled, I got to my dresser and felt the top for the familiar surface of my phone. My dresser is tall, so I accidentally bumped my phone and knocked it to the ground. I flinched at the sound of the fall as the case came off and the screen lit up. I hope it didn't wake my mom. It probably didn't since she's a heavy sleeper. Bending down, I put the case back on my phone and checked the time. While I was occupied with this, I heard a sound come from close in my room. My feeble attempt to look for the source of the sound failed as I slowly moved upward.
Just as I got up, my sleeve clung to the chipped edge of my dresser and I struggled to pull free. Then a hand grabbed my arm. I panicked for a long second before I sigh at the familiar voice.
"What are you doing? " Nathan asked.
I let out a long breath I must've been holding in and allowed my head to collapse on his shoulder. After my heartbeat slowed, I pushed my friend away from me.
"God Nathan, you scared the hell out of me!" I whispered angrily.
He snorted. "You? Scared?"
I pushed him again but not so hard this time. Shaking my head, I went over to the small desk on the side of my bed and turned on a dim lamp light. I then folded my arms in mock anger.
"How'd you get in here, anyway?" I asked suspiciously.
"You left your window open," he replied, pointing to the far side of my room. "You should really be careful about that, Sarah."
I sat on the edge of my bed, finally unfolding my arms. "Yes, father." I said sarcastically. "So what are you doing here?"
Nathan smiled. "It's nice to see you, too."
Sighing, I said, "I'm so glad you decided to sneak into my room at three in the morning."
Gotta love sarcasm.,
"You weren't sleeping,"
"So?" I smiled.
He sat down next to me and showed me pictures on his phone of this experiment he did for science class. I hadn't even started my project and so I tried getting ideas from his but I'm no good at science...like, at all.
"You are such a geek," I said, shaking my head and smiling.
Nathan put down his phone. "Your point?"
I laughed. "And this couldn't wait till tomorrow at school... why?"
"I actually came here for another reason."
"You did," I responded, but it came out more like a statement rather than a question.
"Yup. This is why."
He moved his gaze from me to the window. I did the same. There Skylar came in with party balloons and confetti. She sang Happy Birthday as quietly as she could when she came in. Nathan and I stood up. I was blushing.
Skylar took out a single wax candle and Ethan took out a lighter and lit the candle.
"Guys..." I groaned in protest. But I was actually really happy.
"Make a wish!" Skylar exclaimed in a whisper.
I thought about my wish...really hard. Then I blew out the candle and I could hear Skylar clapping. I couldn't see her cuz she wasn't the light of the pathetic lamp.
"What'd you wish for?" Skylar asked eagerly.
"And why would I tell you that?" I returned.
"Is it a boyfriend?" Sky asked.
"No! I'm not desperate for a boy...I don't NEED one."
Skylar looked at me mischievously. "Whatever you say."
Nathan then pulled out a tiny black box out of his pocket and opened it to reveal a beautiful diamond necklace. It reflected light onto the ceiling.
My eyes widened. "No, Nathan-"
"Relax," he responded. "Skylar and I have been saving up for this."
He turned me around so that I was facing myself in a tall mirror propped up against the wall beside my dresser. I moved my hair as Nathan put the necklace around my neck. It was cold in contrast to his warm fingers. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I was getting sleepy.
At Skylar's excited shriek, my eyes flew open. Both of my friends were smiling at me in the mirror, while I was admiring my new diamond birthday gift.
I had the best friends in the world. Who else's friends would come to their house at three in the morning to celebrate their birthday, I mean seriously?
Turning around, I hugged both of them and savored each moment that we were all here. That wouldn't last forever.

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments An excerpt from one of my stories: Shadows:

I looked around me, desperately attempting to recognize where I was. All I could see was darkness and shadows. All I could feel was mist...and an unidentified source of pain. Not physical pain, mental pain. As for what I could hear, I heard a cry of desperation, a cry for mercy, a cry filled with regret and misery. I closed my eyes and pretended that I was in my bed, but the thorns and sharp rocks on the ground stabbed my hand, making sure that I knew where I was. It was somewhere I couldn't forget. I've visited this place dozens of times, I'm sure of it. But in the waking world, my mind draws a blank to the nightmares in my sleep. Soon, night would consume day.
"You've been chosen," a voice said cheerfully, startling me.
Opening my eyes, I saw a dark figure coming towards me. I fearfully stared at the shadow and scooted back until I was leaning up against a tree. Still, the shape came closer until finally it reached the weak light of the moon. Able to see the face of the shadow now, I could see that it was only a girl. Very young. Maybe early twenties. She was pale and dressed in black silk that was transparent. Her white-blonde, curled hair, fell over her shoulders. But none of that mattered because she was obviously an enemy. Something sinister was radiating off of her in waves.
She reached out her hand. "Come dear, don't be afraid."
Her hand out in an offer only made me more fearful of her and I curled into a ball against the stiff tree. Leaves, black and crispy, fell to the ground. It was so silent, I could actually hear them drop and hit the ground.
"Freeda, dear, you mustn't be afraid of me. I am a friend, come to take you home." the young woman said in a whisper.
I didn't want to go home.
She reached her hand even closer to me. It was cold and blurry. For a second, my thoughts cried, "ghost!" When I didn't respond to her persuading, she shrieked and the world went black.

You know what's creepy about this story.

I like a guy named Nathan. Who is in my science class. And I put off my science experiment. O.O

Same age, same likes/dislikes, same type of friend, and the same thing that happened to the character, happened that day to me, too. It was like...0.0 whoa...

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments Our Light

We ran, hand in hand, along the shore. We laughed and tripped over our own feet. The lost things made clinking noises around us as we hurriedly dodged them. If we didn't hurry fast, we'd be caught.

Sam paused after probably a mile of running. He slowed his pace before coming to a complete halt. I came after him, still desperately reaching for his hand. He held it out to me, and we stayed there, panting.

The night's cool breeze turned my hair up, playfully tugging it towards the shore. I longed to dive in, but I wouldn't in this dress, nor would I in these circumstances.

"You rebel," Sam laughed hoarsely.

I shrugged and tied my hair back. "Father will never know."

Sam turned serious. "But, in only a few weeks you're arranged to marry that other guy...Thomas."

I groaned, sitting down to stop myself from pacing. "Oh, Sam. That's just more of a reason to use our time together wisely now!"

He smiled and offered his hand, hoisting me up. Then we ran. We had our destination set: the lighthouse.

Running up to the top, we reached the eerie, glowing light. It was dull compared to how bright it could've been, but just perfect for us.

I dragged Sam in front of the light, and imagined that all the people below looking at the light could see our shadowed outlines. There was no way they could know who we were.

And so what if they did? We were young kids in love, separated by the cruel fate of an arranged marriage.

Sam came up beside me. I tugged him closer, and kissed him in the large spotlight, for everyone to see. It was our secret way of showing the world, even though we would never reveal ourselves down on the ground, where mankind is cruel and life gives no pity.

This was our place. And even when the sun gives out its last light, we would show ours up on the lighthouse.

That was from the writing competition

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments the darkness envelopes me
in its warm, summer hold
the stars I see, they shine with glee
and share secrets untold

what daylight brings
is a milky glow
rays of sunlight coming down in strings
with too much love to know

with birth is happiness
a new beginning
but it all ends, I must confess
death is in the winning

I shine my glow
in hopes
that you will remember
for one day you must know
we all must go
a legend proceeding
for tomorrow

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments Okay, I'm going to put down a poem I wrote when I was nine. I wrote nothing but poems back then! Where did all that talent go??? haha, anyways, I memorized one of them that was kinda dumb but I'll put it in here for the heck of it.

Annaninile (Anna-ni-nile), The Bubble That Traveled A Mile:

Annaninile,
The bubble that traveled a mile,
traveled a lot,
and traveled for a while

She crossed seas
and mountains,
Plains,
and fountains

Until the day she pops,
never will she stop,
'cause she's

Annaninile,
the bubble that traveled a mile

Well, it made sense at the time. Haha. I can't believe I remember all of that after all these years!

Abi (abilyssa) | 1289 comments Prompting Paragraphs entry:

My heart was pounding in my chest- it almost sounded like footsteps on my staircase. I sat up, knowing that if I were to be attacked, I would be an easy catch lying down. All of my nerves were on edge as I heard a sinister voice calling my name. It tried to sound friendly, it tried to sound welcoming. But beneath that friendliness was a string of evil and deception, woven thickly under its welcoming mask. And yet- I was drawn to it. You really couldn't blame me. I was seven years old. I walked to the edge of the stairs, peering into the darkness. I was waiting. Waiting for a visitor, a ghost, an enemy, an attacker...I was was waiting for death.

But there was no one there.

That actually happened to me when I was seven. No joke.
