I've started Too Big to Miss, first in the Odelia Gray mystery series. Narration is great in terms of getting down the character right, though her ability to do voices other than the protagonist seems lacking. Too early to tell about the storyline yet, although the description (setting) is working.

I'm about 6 hours into The Woman in White. It isn't the Audible version that has received so much praise, but this version by Jincin Recordings is better than average.
I've recently started The Book Thiefin print and I'm listening to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I'm sure this book will be interesting, however I'm on a history/culture buzz right now so I'm enjoying The Book Thief more and will probably change audio books to something related to history for now. Happy New Year!
I'm 3 hours into Stuart Palmer cozy mystery series featuring Hildegarde Withers (schoolmarm) year 1931.
The Penguin Pool Murder
I am about half way thru Kingslayer, a fantasy book by Honor Raconteur and Mark McClain Wilson's narration is great.
I mainly listen while commuting, so Christmas break really slowed my December listening. I only finished 2 brain candy books & 2/3rds of a weightier book.I Knocked out:
Night of the Living Trekkies
Rise of the Corinari
& I'm 2/3rds into Atlas Shrugged
At 60 hours Atlas Shrugged is the longest audiobook I've ever attempted and I'm enjoying it immensely.

I look forward to your impressions of this one... I'm always in the market for a good new cozy mystery series.
And John, I've never heard of Odelia Gray... looking forward to hearing your conclusions on that too.
Sigh, and I'm participating in the TBR Challenge... Oh well, I still like finding new series. I made a list once of all the mystery series I've sampled, follow, or have completed and stopped counting when the number exceded 100... addict, yep.
The premise of the Odelia Gray stories is that she's a plus-sized-lady at barely five feet tall and over 200 pounds, with a circle of similar friends whose (collective) goal is to accept themselves as they are.
I'm struggling with Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt. Some of the characters are downright vicious!
John wrote: "The premise of the Odelia Gray stories is that she's a plus-sized-lady at barely five feet tall and over 200 pounds, with a circle of similar friends whose (collective) goal is to accept themselves..."Sky Denison of the Scumble River series and the main character in the forensic anthropologist series that began with Crossing Places (forgot her name at the moment) would both fit in with that group... a slight trend in plus-sized women who want to be OK with who they are while solving mysteries.
Hello everyone! I'm kind of new here, so I hope I'm doing this right :-\. I'm reading Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. I've read his books about the cathedral and enjoyed them. So far, it's interesting and I like learning about the history surrounding WW I, at least the history of everyday people in Wales and St. Petersburg. The narrator is great.

The only thing is you miss the actual pictures in the print book (I bought it after I listened to the audio because I loved it so much).
Finished hearing BBC audio excerpts from The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, spun right past BBC radio 4's new version of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and now into a golden oldie: Busman's Holiday by DL Sayers.Happy New Year all!
I'm listening to two audiobooks. First is Mystic River and the second is the Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes. I just started both. Mystic River will be my main title and Sherlock Homes is a change of pace.

Now I'll have to look.
I am about 18% into the 60 hours, 42 minutes of War and Peace narrated by Frederick Davidson. While he isn't my favorite narrator, so far I am doing OK with his voices for this.

I started The Shining which is a reread for me. I decided to listen to it before I listen to Doctor Sleep to refresh my memory.
I am almost finished with Percy Jackson book #4 The Battle of the Labyrinth. In the evenings my husband and I are listening to Ex-Heroes together.
I don't normally have 2 books going in audio, but right now I do - i'm listening to The Silver Brumby - book from my childhood - started it yesterday with my mom because the other book i'm listening to (Down and Out in Bugtussle: The Mad Fat Road to Happiness) I was more than half-way through and she hasn't listened to any of it

Finished grave witch and moved on to Grave Dance while I like the story the narration could be better. Problem is I can't think of a female narrator whose voice I could picture in Alex Crafts body.
Just finished The Name of the Wind and really enjoyed it. I'll probably read the next in the trilogy, though I'm in no hurry, knowing the 3rd one isn't written yet.Moving on to The Master and Margarita.

I very much like this series. It is a female Perry Mason and read very nicely by Julie McKay.
Finished #1 and started #2. You might listen to the sample and see what you think.

Whole heartedly agree! Best book(s) of all time with narration that does it justice.

Thanks for the feedback and recommendation. At the very least I'm likely to try the first one... after I've met a few of my reading goals for this month.
Hey, what a great idea! I can reward myself for meeting my goal to listen to the oldest books on my TBR pile by buying myself a new book!
What do you mean that's not the purpose of the challenge?
ROFL...another one (of our New Year's resolutions) bites the dust.
♪ Kim wrote: "I just started Little Dorritt for one of my book groups - also a book from my TBR backlog :)"I am in the same group I bet as I have this in the queue as well. I have the Simon Vance narration. How about you?
I have also started reading and listening to Black House. This is my second time reading this. I read it the first time soon after it's release. It is the current month's read in the Stephen King Fans group.
Catherine wrote: "I am in the same group I bet as I have this in the queue as well. I have the Simon Vance narration. How about you? It's the Anton Lesser version. I also have A Tale of Two Cities read by him. Both are excellent narrations.
Just finished Untouchable. The narration is spot on, but the plot was lacking.Currently reading/listening to Taltos, which while produced later than the first book of the series, is the first book in chronological order. Narration is decent, but it's hard to get into the plot.

I couldn't resist going and looking that one up. Very nice from the sample. I don't guess I really need two versions of the same book though do I? :-)
I am exactly two-thirds through The Woman in White. I'm enjoying it but, perversely, had to force myself not to pause it and randomly start another book just for variety. That's how I've ended up with over--well over--50 books on my In-Progress list... 2014 is to be a year of completing rather than merely starting.

Shirley, I hope you're not beginning to feel that I'm using you like a canary in a coal mine, but this is another book series I've wondered about and will be interested in your impressions of this one.
If it's good, I'll add it to my potential rewards list for reading older books or finishing the unfinished to get them off the shelf. ;)
I absolutely love this series - it was one of my favorites. However, I did not listen to them so I cannot comment on the narration. Shirley, I would love to hear what you think of it.

3 hours in and I am liking it and the narration by Ellen Archer.
A book I just finished and highly recommend is Tripwire. Another one I really liked was my first 1st to Die. Two that many people enjoyed and recommended in this group were Paths of Glory and The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I didn't dislike but I didn't like enough to think about them when I wasn't listening to them. Did anyone else feel the same about these?
Lisa wrote: "A book I just finished and highly recommend is Tripwire. Another one I really liked was my first 1st to Die. It has caused me to wait to get it, maybe when it's on sale.
Just started The Good House and am only 10% in, but you know how sometimes you get the feeling right away that you just know this book will be good -- got it. The main character is a sarcastic alcoholic and I absolutely adore her!
Cher: I listened to that one at bedtime, and waited eagerly all day to get back to it. Total slam dunk for a five-star experience!
I sat down to listen to The Sun Also Rises narrated by William Hurt and promptly fell asleep. After I woke up, I played with the speed and definately decided I need to bump it up. Do over tonight.
I am listening to Home for the Haunting
narrated by our own group member Xe :) I really enjoy the series in print so am looking forward to listening to the latest book on audio.
