1. Among the Nameless Stars by Diana Peterfreund is the prequel novella for her novel "For the Darkness Shows the Stars" and introduces us to Kai and the harsh world he lives in, filled with people struggling to live and opportunists taking advantage of them. It's science fiction -- very dystopia/post-apocalyptic. We only get teasers of what went wrong but it's intriguing enough.

2. Death Comes to Pemberley by PD James. I listened to an audiobook for a library book club. I enjoyed the narrator, especially how she varied the different voices. I wish I enjoyed the book more. Possibly works better for me as a historical mystery with Austen influences/background, but only marginally.

3. Curtsies and Conspiracies by Gail Carriger. Another audiobook I checked out of the library, second in Carriger's delightful YA series "Finishing School". I'm actually enjoying seeing the pre-history of Carriger's Soulless universe and some familiar names crop up. There were some pacing issues which is the only reason I didn't like it as much as the first.

4. From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg. Trying to push my way back into this challenge by reading a children's book I've heard about, but never actually read.

Hoping this will nudge me into finishing others in my pile. I've been a bad one for starting books this year, not so much with the finish line.

5. The Sibyl in her Grave by Sarah Cauldwell. Sigh. And now I'm sad. That was the last Hilary Tamar book.

6. Crewel by Gennifer Albin. Halfway up Pike's Peak, thanks to this young adult novel. An odd one, because it feels like one sort of YA book until the twist and you start peeling back the layers. Probably better in theory than execution but I liked the world building.

7. Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier. Finished off this YA time travel trilogy. Convoluted as only time travel stories can be. I do think Gier tied up the loose ends nicely at the end, even with a surprise or two.

8. Old City Blues v2 GN. Read for Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon. Surprised how much I liked the first volume since the art style is scratchier than I usually care for, but interesting worldbuilding and better use of the female cop this time around.
