Hi everyone! Just saw this post. I've had my head down writing for several months, but my latest book ins partly set in Spain: Madrid, Seville, Cadiz - the beautiful Andalusia region. Its called Beauty Mark, a contemporary romantic suspense novel, and the second in the Hostile Beauty series. Each books takes you somewhere new...Beauty Mark
I'll give this a go.1.

3. Asturias (Oviedo, Gijón, Avilés): La Regenta

6. Canary Islands (Tenerife): Contemporary Poetry from the Canary Islands
7. Cantabria (Santander): Watcher in the Pine

13. La Rioja (Logroño)
15. Murcia (Cartagena, Murcia)

17. Valencia (Alicante, Castellón, Valencia): Death in the Afternoon
Having just joined this group and loving reading in Spanish I thought I'd take up the challenge. I've started with Camilo José Cela's La familia de Pascual Duarte which is available in an English language edition The Family of Pascual Duarte for the Extremadura region. Here are a few of the books I'm thinking of reading: -1.

Adding Lorenzo Silva's El lejano país de los estanques set in Mallorca, I don't think it's been translated into English although there are French and Italian translations. This is the first book in a series about 2 Guardia Civil. I'm now just starting Gerald Brenan's South From Granada as my read for Andalucía.
I've now been to Asturias with La casa junto al río and now embarking on a journey to Calahorra in La Rioja El baile de los penitentes.
I'm compilling of books to read which are set in Spain at the moment. This is a great list, thanks very much. I'm a massive fan of Christ Stewart and his trilogy set in Andalusia. Can't say I have read many in each of the regions yet, but I'm working on it.
I'm also an author and have recently published a novel set in Seville, Falling for Flamenco: Love and Flamenco in Seville. If anyone is interested in Seville is might be worth a look.
Thanks, looking forward to more books set in Spain.
I've moved from La Rioja to the Basque Country and I'm now reading El hijo del acordeonista (The Accordionist's Son) by Bernardo Atxaga. I'm reading the Castillian Spanish version of the novel which was originally written in euskera (Basque) and the author himself has translated/adapted the novel. The English translation is by Margaret Jull Costa.
I finally finished The Accordionist's Son, I found it a long read as it was rather disjointed and slow. However it was interesting in places particularly when considering the relationship an émigré has with his/her childhood home and language. Now moving on to The Canary Islands with Lorenzo Silva's La niebla y la doncella.
Now moved from the Canary Islands to Catalonia with La pista de hielo (available in English as The Skating Rink) by Roberto Bolaño.
Just finished a novel set in the province of Toledo Veinte años y un día by Jorge Semprún for Castile-La Mancha. Although it's been translated into several languages there doesn't seem to be an English version.
Adding:Castile and Leon: The Heretic: A Novel of the Inquisition by Miguel Delibes
Madrid: The Monk by Matthew Lewis
Adding Murcia: Homage to Murcia: A Season of Football Anarchy by Anthony Higgins, I don't normally read about football but hadn't found anything set in Murcia that particularly interested me so as this was available to borrow from the Kindle library I thought I'd give it a try. In the 2013-14 season Anthony Higgins followed fan owned club CAP Ciudad de Murcia, in the fifth tier of Spanish football. The asides about politics, history and life in Murcia (and other parts of Spain) were interesting. The book needed a bit more editing but I found it quite engaging and have a better idea about Murcia having read it.
Started 24/1/20 I'm going to try and attempt this too:

Melilla (and Granada) I should add when I finish my current read - Leon African by Maalouf-A, excellent French-Lebanese writer

I've finally completed my tour around the mainland with María Oruña's recently published detective novel Lo que la marea esconde. This is the fourth in a series set in Cantabria featuring a female guardia civil and her English partner. I hadn't read the previous books in the series but this was a good read, a "locked room" murder mystery with more than a nod to 20th century writers such as Agatha Christie. I hope Oruña's books do get translated into English, for me she's better than Dolores Redondo and Domingo Vilar who have both been translated. So 18/19 regions completed - I added the two Spanish enclaves on the North African coast to my challenge,I just need to find a book set in Ceuta .
Sounds like a really worthwhile read. Sometimes the best authors never get translated, which is very sad. I hope you find a book set in Ceuta. I certainly don't know any. You might find this blog really useful for that...https://literaryrambles.wordpress.com/Happy reading!

Aguas de venganza by Miguel PajaresSo I've finally completed my challenge (begun 7 years ago!). I set myself the task of reading two more books, one for Ceuta and the other Melilla. I managed to find a book about a Barcelona based detective whose investigation into a double murder takes the reader to the Spanish border with Morocco in Ceuta.
