Darkshadow paced back and forth in the empty den. "Why couldn't I come? It'm the deputy! I know what I'm doing! He can't do this! It's not allowed! I'll gt him for this!" He said angrily to himself.
Darkpaw slowly approached her mentor with her eyes narrowed, "Darkshadow we haven't been training at all today! If I turn out to be a terrible warrior it will be all your fault!"
"I'm sorry, but if you don't notice, I should be at the island" He snapped at his apprentice. "And it's all that mousebrain Jaystar's fault."
"What are you two fighting about?" Joyclaw walked in with a confused look on her face but then grew a smile. "If you want I can take Darkpaw hunting while you go to the island."
"I care," whispered Lostmist. She slipped in like a ghost. "I care a lot about warriors, some more than others" she looked to her paws waywardly.
Darkpaw smirked at her mentor, "See, Darkshadow?! Everyone else cares about my training except you! Come on, let's go hunting already!" she hissed as she exited the warriors den.
"Some apprentices just don't understand, I know that it's hard to be a deputy, but you are a great warrior. And even if you weren't at this gathering you still are very important to the whole clan." Lostmist whispered as she stalked out slowly. Turning to give him an unusual smile.
Darkclaw looked darkly at joyclaw. "I can train my apprentice Joyclaw" He said coldly "I am deputy. Come a long Darkpaw." He then turned and walked out of the den.
Joyclaw started to walk out when she turned back, "It'll only be for a moment or two. You go have fun!" She returned to following Darkpaw.
Jaystar and the rest of the cats from the gathering walked into camp. "Jaystar, I must speak with you. Alone." Darkshadow said, marching up to Jaystar
"Is is urgent?" Jaystar asked. "Because I still have to report about the gathering.
"That can wait." Darkshadow replied as he led Jaystar out of camp and deep into the woods.

Lostmist entered the camp with a fat mouse between her teeth. "How was the gathering. Was there much trouble?" she whispered. Lostmist moved toward Darkclaw's flank.
"So who do you think the new deputy will be?" muttered warriors to each other as they huddled in small groups. Lostmist felt numb as a rock. The dense pine forest around her gave soothing sounds. She wanted to be deputy. But there were many more warriors worthy of that title.
