Be prepared for spoilers!

Synopsis:

Angel Crawford is a loser.

Living with her alcoholic deadbeat dad in the swamps of southern Louisiana, she's a high school dropout with a pill habit and a criminal record who's been fired from more crap jobs than she can count. Now on probation for a felony, it seems that Angel will never pull herself out of the downward spiral her life has taken.

That is, until the day she wakes up in the ER after overdosing on painkillers. Angel remembers being in an horrible car crash, but she doesn't have a mark on her. To add to the weirdness, she receives an anonymous letter telling her there's a job waiting for her at the parish morgue—and that it's an offer she doesn't dare refuse.

Before she knows it she's dealing with a huge crush on a certain hunky deputy and a brand new addiction: an overpowering craving for brains. Plus, her morgue is filling up with the victims of a serial killer who decapitates his prey—just when she's hungriest!

Angel's going to have to grow up fast if she wants to keep this job and stay in one piece. Because if she doesn't, she's dead meat.

Literally.

Yes, I've heard that, Barbara★. Intriguing. (BTW, I'm with you on the zombies. LOL!)

Jane | 20 comments It doesn't look like my type of book but it has excellent reviews so I am definitely interested. Won't set my expectations too high and hopefully it will be an enjoyable read!

Christine | 51 comments I LOVE this series. It was not at all what I was expecting from the cover. If you like audiobooks the narrator really brings the series to life.

I am not a zombie fan either, but I heard good things about this book, so, no time like the present.

The cover has kept me from reading this one. Don't look too close--it's disturbing, but I've had so many people tell me I should read it that I'm looking forward to it. I may need to cover up the cover though. lol

Lisarenee | 7659 comments For some reason when I saw the cover, Pink came to mind. It's not that she looks like a zombie or anything. I think it's the hair, the arch of the eyebrow and the eye makeup (which you can't see that well in the pictures). What do you think?

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Lisarenee I agree and I like the cover even more because I love Pink and the synopsis sounds like it will be a good book. I also love the color pink. I'm in!

Sharon Well spotted Lisarenee there is a resemblance. It was the cover that drew me in the first place. I have started this book yesterday ahead of schedule as I finished my other challenge.

Questions and comments for chapters 01 - 06

1. As a few of us referred, the cover is not a friendly one. In many cases, it kept us from reading it sooner. What do you think of the story so far and the writing style? A good example of not judging a book by its cover?

2. Angel's background definitely puts people on edge. The nurse and the cop surely talked to her like they had a bad taste in their mouths. It make feel sorry for her. It also made me ponder, is that the way we see people? Judging a way of life by what it looks like without caring to know if is the truth or not?

3. “a body was found a few miles further down Sweet Bayou Road. It had been decapitated.” Creepy. Do you think it has something to do with her accident? Her hallucinations sure have a lot of blood. Maybe the one who turn her has something to do with it?

4. The "energetic drinks" made me a little queasy. I think I'll never look at thick smoothies or other type of drinks the same way. Specially if they are pink.

5. How many times do we have to hear about her weak stomach? We get it. She gets sick easily and reacts badly to gross things. Or at least she used to.

6. I though it was a nice touch that the drugs don't seem to work anymore. Maybe now she can get rid of her past and finally have a chance in life?

7. The mysterious letters. The job interview. Any crazy guesses? Maybe her "creator"? Or something entirely new?

8. Thoughts about the characters so far? Detectives Roth and Abadie seems like they will be around for a while. Nick is what I call a "nose in the air". And what about Marcus Ivanov? He definitely makes Angel nervous.

9. Angel's struggle between take the xanax or leave it, and result makes me believe that there is still hope for her. What do you think about our main character so far?

1. As a few of us referred, the cover is not a friendly one. In many cases, it kept us from reading it sooner. What do you think of the story so far and the writing style? A good example of not judging a book by its cover?
For me the cover almost put me off of reading this book it was the synopsis and some of the reviews that changed my mind about reading this. I’m having a hard time getting into the story, but that’s because it’s written in the first person and it usually takes me a while getting into. I need to get the feel of the character telling the story and I don’t know her yet. I can’t answer for the judging this book by its cover yet, I’ll answer this after I’ve finished the book.

2. Angel's background definitely puts people on edge. The nurse and the cop surely talked to her like they had a bad taste in their mouths. It make feel sorry for her. It also made me ponder, is that the way we see people? Judging a way of life by what it looks like without caring to know if is the truth or not?
I’m not sure if they judged her more for her way of life or for her drug abuse. I know she can’t help the way she grew up, but I don’t get the feeling she has even tried to make her life better by finishing school, trying to stick with a job and stop taking drugs. It seems to me she keeps on whining about how she is a loser and she always has bad luck. Sometimes you have to change your own luck and stop waiting for the good stuff to happen.

3. “a body was found a few miles further down Sweet Bayou Road. It had been decapitated.” Creepy. Do you think it has something to do with her accident? Her hallucinations sure have a lot of blood. Maybe the one who turn her has something to do with it?
Maybe, I keep thinking the car accident she’s “hallucinating” about really happened and she was in the car with the guy that was found decapitated. She was “saved” by the person who keeps contacting her.

4. The "energetic drinks" made me a little queasy. I think I'll never look at thick smoothies or other type of drinks the same way. Specially if they are pink.
And smell like strawberries and chocolate.

5. How many times do we have to hear about her weak stomach? We get it. She gets sick easily and reacts badly to gross things. Or at least she used to.
She is a bit whiny.

6. I though it was a nice touch that the drugs don't seem to work anymore. Maybe now she can get rid of her past and finally have a chance in life?
Maybe, but she doesn’t seem to want to let go of the drugs even though they don’t work for her.

7. The mysterious letters. The job interview. Any crazy guesses? Maybe her "creator"? Or something entirely new?
I think her “creator”.

8. Thoughts about the characters so far? Detectives Roth and Abadie seems like they will be around for a while. Nick is what I call a "nose in the air". And what about Marcus Ivanov? He definitely makes Angel nervous.
Don’t like Nick, detectives Roth and Abadie are definitely going to play a bigger role. I’m curious about Marcus Ivanov.

9. Angel's struggle between take the xanax or leave it, and result makes me believe that there is still hope for her. What do you think about our main character so far?
I don’t know about her yet, I hope she is going to show a bit more fighting spirit and is going to make something of herself. But I think she has to find out first what is happening to her, she knows something is wrong.

10. Is anyone else officially grossed out by the descriptions in this portion? BRAINS...(Said in my best zombie voice) Gah! I guess we had to expect it.

11. Can you imagine the inner struggle if you're brain was still functioning normally and you craved brains and could actually smell them? Angel's wondering if she's insane or a monster. Over the years we've seen many authors redefine other supernatural creatures and give them a more human traits. We've seen vegan vamps, demons with a conscious, etc. Zombies are among the newest to join their ranks. What do you think of Diane Rowland's redefinition/makeover of the classic zombie?

12. If you were Angel, would you be mad at whoever turned you? What about the person who knows what you are but isn't letting you know who he or she is (If they aren't the same person)? I think I'd have wanted more guidance. Angel has a lot to deal with. Do you think the gradual realization of it all would be better than just being told up front what she's become?

13. Do you find it strange that Marcus seems to be noticeably hovering about her? Could he not trust her since he knows her background or is something else going on? Marcus did seem kind of embarrassed when Derrel suggested he might be attracted to her.

14. So heads are missing and a zombie tried to injure or kill Angel to get brains. Could there be a connection or would that be too obvious? He obviously didn't make Angel as he seemed surprised to find she was a newly made zombie. I wonder how many there are out there?

15. At least Angel now knows what she is. What happened to her not so mentoring mentor? She could have used a little help after her accident. I wonder if she's heard the last from them?

16. The more we learn about Angel's past, the more I sympathize with her. Do you feel the same? First, she was worried Marcus was reserving the dirt he had on her for a more devastating reveal time, and then we learn about her mother. Her boyfriend didn't seem all that great or caring. Her dad is definitely no role model. Her comment about how anyone having a problem with her keeping her father stocked in liquor should try to live with him for a week makes me think he's not a pleasant person to be around when he goes through withdrawal.

***FYI, Sonia and I were curious if the description of Angel in the book matched the cover. Here it is:

"I looked like death without makeup, and while my hair was blonde as well, it was that way because I dyed it myself, which meant it was a frizzy, damaged mess."

I think the cover artist took a little artistic liberty with Angel's appearance, don't you?

I feel the same way and did not even think that it might be because it is in first person. Sometimes I can be so dense and not make these connections. I will have to pay attention to that and see if it is the reason it takes me awhile to get into a book as well.

#1 I think you and I are the same with this one. While I don't have a problem with first person, I did have trouble getting into the book at first. Perhaps the title gave too much away? I don't know.

#2 I agree. She doesn't (as my son's preschool teacher would say) isn't making the best choices.

#3 That was my thought as well. We know something happened to make her a zombie. Overdosing doesn't do it unless there's something really wrong with those pills.

#4 lol I never did like those drinks.

#6 They may have been her way out of dealing with the reality of her life.

#7 I agree and keep wondering if the coroner might be the mysterious guy. It has to be someone with power. Still not sure who it could be though.

#2 I think some people will be influenced, but I just can't help but wonder didn't they think it was strange that a young woman would have overdosed in the woods naked? I'm just saying? It doesn't seem the way most would choose to do it.

#4 Ewwww!

#6 Great minds think alike. I didn't see your answer before I posted the second set of questions. lol

#7 I think they have to be somehow related. How would they know she's a zombie?

message 32: by Lisarenee (new) - added it

Lisarenee | 7659 comments @Jex

#1 I agree

#3 Since they say you need brains right away I'd have to think you may be right, but who helped her cover it up? I like how the author doesn't tell us how this all went down from the beginning.

#4 Ew!

#5 I think you may be right. If you truly had a weak stomach you'd be amazed that you weren't affected anymore. She has to realize something's not right.

#6 I always root for the underdog

#7 lol I like that about you Jex. I thought the same thing.

Desirae #1 - not sure if I'd label the "brain descriptions" as gross, since they match the theme of the story. I would call them unsettling.

#2 - I think what's so interesting so far is the consciousness of action that the author is giving to Angel. Rather than being a "brain dead" zombie as is the usual caricature.

#3 - This is what's really holding me back from really liking this story: why is Angel just going with the flow here? Why isn't she actively searching out *what* happened to her?

#4 - I'm thinking there are a lot more zombies out there, so far we've only scratched the surface.

#5 - I think Angel *is* becoming more sympathetic as I read. She really annoyed me for the first few chapters, and I had a hard time getting into this story, but I'm noticing that as she interacts with more people she gains more confidence and as a result becomes more wiser to the issues that surround her.

10. Is anyone else officially grossed out by the descriptions in this portion? BRAINS...(Said in my best zombie voice) Gah! I guess we had to expect it.
Not grossed out, but it did strike me as funny we have two books of the month with a high ick factor.

11. Can you imagine the inner struggle if your brain was still functioning normally and you craved brains and could actually smell them? Angel's wondering if she's insane or a monster. Over the years we've seen many authors redefine other supernatural creatures and give them a more human traits. We've seen vegan vamps, demons with a conscious, etc. Zombies are among the newest to join their ranks. What do you think of Diane Rowland's redefinition/makeover of the classic zombie?
I like Diane’s version of a zombie, this is my first zombie book. I have read Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series and there are zombies in some of those books, but they are completely different.

I would be mad as soon as I found out who and what. And I would probably be madder about the fact I was kept in the dark for so long, anything could have happened. Finally getting to know Angel I think the gradual route is better for her, because if she knew immediately she would have shut down and wouldn’t have done anything but saying that her life sucked and what a total brain eating loser she was.

13. Do you find it strange that Marcus seems to be noticeably hovering about her? Could he not trust her since he knows her background or is something else going on? Marcus did seem kind of embarrassed when Derrel suggested he might be attracted to her.
I don’t find it strange yet, he is a deputy and he is supposed to be present at crime/accident scenes.

14. So heads are missing and a zombie tried to injure or kill Angel to get brains. Could there be a connection or would that be too obvious? He obviously didn't make Angel as he seemed surprised to find she was a newly made zombie. I wonder how many there are out there?
I think he may be the cause of her accident, but that Mr. Anonymous was following him as well and saved Angel. I think there are at least three.

15. At least Angel now knows what she is. What happened to her not so mentoring mentor? She could have used a little help after her accident. I wonder if she's heard the last from them?
I’m sure she hasn’t heard the last, he will make an appearance.

I can sympathize to a certain extent. She is a 21 year old woman and it’s time to take matters in her own hands and she seems to be finally doing that.

***FYI, Sonia and I were curious if the description of Angel in the book matched the cover. Here it is:

"I looked like death without makeup, and while my hair was blonde as well, it was that way because I dyed it myself, which meant it was a frizzy, damaged mess."

A little???? I think a lot. I have a different picture of angel in mind.

I’m really getting into this book, after I finished todays section I just wanted to continue. The story is getting much better now that Angel has stopped her whining a little. Also I’m intrigued by the murders.

10. Is anyone else officially grossed out by the descriptions in this portion? BRAINS...(Said in my best zombie voice) Gah! I guess we had to expect it.
The way it's worded and such doesn't make me think gross. Maybe it's just because I read Stiff last and that was much groser :-P

11. Can you imagine the inner struggle if you're brain was still functioning normally and you craved brains and could actually smell them? Angel's wondering if she's insane or a monster. We've seen vegan vamps, demons with a conscious, etc. Zombies are among the newest to join their ranks. What do you think of Diane Rowland's redefinition/makeover of the classic zombie?
It's very interesting and definitely new. I haven't decided if I like it or not. Zombies are supposed to be mindless drones, that's what makes them zombie, more than just eating brains and rotting. It's the monster of the masses. I'm still interested to see where she takes it.

I wonder if the person that turned her has done this before and finds that the secretive ness works better than being direct. Maybe people aren't willing to cope if you just tell them straight. However, I hope he comes out soon because I want answers.

13. Do you find it strange that Marcus seems to be noticeably hovering about her? Could he not trust her since he knows her background or is something else going on? Marcus did seem kind of embarrassed when Derrel suggested he might be attracted to her.
It's probably just her background. She's proven herself untrustworthy and then appears here.

14. So heads are missing and a zombie tried to injure or kill Angel to get brains. Could there be a connection or would that be too obvious? He obviously didn't make Angel as he seemed surprised to find she was a newly made zombie. I wonder how many there are out there?
The zombie appearance makes me think that the person turning them works at the morgue. I don't think he has anything to do with the decapitated people. I would think if it was him there would have been more bodies. I also don't know that he'd be dumb enough to leave the body so publicly, but then again, he may not have been thinking straight.

15. At least Angel now knows what she is. What happened to her not so mentoring mentor? She could have used a little help after her accident. I wonder if she's heard the last from them?
I think we'll see something from them soon. I don't think she'll meet them for a long time though, if ever. It makes me think of Charlie's Angels. You never see the mystery man with all the info.

She's definitely had a hard life. I can understand why her life took the bad turns it did. She doesn't seem to have any support or anyone that cares about her at all.

I really like the story so far. It is a quick read. I like that Angel is a totally different from the "average" zombies I've met so far. She can eat normal food, she "thinks" and is able to live a "normal" life. Apart from craving for brains (which occurs in the case of zombies quite often), and some extraordinary "powers" due to her new diet, she seems to be leading a normal life.

I even have a feeling that after changing into zombie, her life has started to change for better. She has a well-paid job, she acts rather responsibly (pays the bills, cooks, cleans the kitchen). It is a paradox of this story so far. When it comes to some realistic "face" of the story, I wasn't expecting one from a zombie novel :). I'm really curious who Angel's benefactor is, and if any of her new acquiantences can be the one. Marcus Ivanow seems like a good candidate. I definitely enjoy this book so far.

Questions and Comments for Chapters 14-21

17. Kang told us a little about zombies, at least how they are made: 1. Be near death. 2. Get bitten to hell. 3. Eat brains immediately. What do you think of the transformation process?

18. What do you think of Kang? Do you think he's a good or bad guy? Will he be a problem?

19. Angel handled herself pretty well with Kang. Do you think she should have given in? Or was it good that she stood up for herself?

20. Did Angel really thinks Zombies would help? She must really know nothing about the typical media zombie.

21. To me it feels like a lot of vampire traits are being given to zombies in this book: anti-aging, eat brains for strength (blood for vamps), etc. What do you think of this take on zombies?

22. Zeke returns. Do you think Angel should help him out? Good guy or bad guy or something in between?

23. What did you think of the fight with her dad? Do you think she should cut him loose or try to help him?

24. What do you think of all these missing brains? Do you think it's Zeke? It's interesting that the brains started going missing once Angel was turned. Coincidence?

25. Looks like a budding relationship between Angel and Ivanov. Expected? Do you think Ivanonv reciprocates the feelings?

26. Do you think Angel should have called Kang with her suspicions? Do you think he'll be helpful or just blow her off? I wonder if he's dealt with something like this before since he's so old.

27. We're about halfway through the book now. What are your thoughts so far? Predictions for the end?

Sounds like a vampire transition, just switch blood with brain.

18. What do you think of Kang? Do you think he's a good or bad guy? Will he be a problem?
I think he’s neither, he’s someone looking out for himself only. He might be a problem when Angel isn’t giving him “complete” bodies for his funeral home.

19. Angel handled herself pretty well with Kang. Do you think she should have given in? Or was it good that she stood up for herself?
It was good she stood up for herself, a girl needs to eat. It also shows her growth in character, she’s not lying down defeated when something bad happens.

20. Did Angel really thinks Zombies would help? She must really know nothing about the typical media zombie.
I think she is naïve to the extreme. She has a lot of growing up to do and she needs to learn a lot. It almost looks like she had a very isolated life.

21. To me it feels like a lot of vampire traits are being given to zombies in this book: anti-aging, eat brains for strength (blood for vamps), etc. What do you think of this take on zombies?
At least they’re not sparkly. I haven’t read any other zombie books so I don’t know what their normal traits are.

22. Zeke returns. Do you think Angel should help him out? Good guy or bad guy or something in between?
I don’t know, I think he’s bad. I suspect him of being the head basher (not the decapitator I think that’s another zombie).

23. What did you think of the fight with her dad? Do you think she should cut him loose or try to help him?
She should cut him loose, but I do understand how difficult that would be. She has already helped him a lot by paying bills and getting food, the only thing she shouldn’t have done is get him alcohol. I don’t think she can help him, he has to want to stop drinking for himself. I liked the way she handled his phone call when he wanted her to bail him out.

24. What do you think of all these missing brains? Do you think it's Zeke? It's interesting that the brains started going missing once Angel was turned. Coincidence?
I think Zeke is the one bashing people’s heads in, someone else is decapitating people. It looks like we have two zombie serial killers on the loose.

25. Looks like a budding relationship between Angel and Ivanov. Expected? Do you think Ivanonv reciprocates the feelings?
The budding relationship was expected and I think Ivanov reciprocates. It’s in the way he treats her after her father bead her up.

26. Do you think Angel should have called Kang with her suspicions? Do you think he'll be helpful or just blow her off? I wonder if he's dealt with something like this before since he's so old.
Yes, I think she did the right thing. I don’t suspect Kang of being the one doing the killing, he has got a good business going with supplying brains to lazy zombies. I think he might just help her, only because it may injure his business.

27. We're about halfway through the book now. What are your thoughts so far? Predictions for the end?
I am starting to really like the book and it was hard to put it down when I finished todays section, it’s a good thing I’m reading another good one besides this book. For predictions see questions 22 and 24.

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments @Sonia: 10# Yeah. Back in the old days, it was common practice feed lamb brains to babies. I don' recall seeing my baby sister eating them, but I know for a fact that I was "lucky" enough to have that delicacy. *shudders* I have no memory of it, but it doesn't improve my appetite.

Really? I guess it makes sense. Brain is a delicacy in a lot of cultures. But so are bugs, fish eggs, etc. All things I don't want to eat myself.

@Imke:At least they’re not sparkly.

HAHA! That's very true. Zombies normally are pure dead. The brain and appetite for flesh are there but the body continues to decompose, so over time they die off. They don't think about anything but their next meal, are attracted to sounds and movement, and tend to move in packs. Zombies are the typical mindless being. It's supposed to simulate the mindless drones of society that follow without thinking, or something like that. Transformation is usually through a bite or fluid getting into your system (from a zombie). It usually happens slowly with you getting really sick first, then dying from the sickness and coming back to life. In some media anyone that dies and leaves brain in tact turns into a zombie because it's blood born in everyone. But depends on the media. I'm way too into zombies :-P

I am thinking the same thing.

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments @Zonnah: I am not a fan so far. I tend to like true zombies. Even the zombies in the movie World War Z bugged me because they moved to fast. FYI they moved slow in the book.

I concur. I hated the movie WWZ. The book was so much better and so very different. I was hoping they would do it more documentary style like the book was, but no had to try to be a big blockbuster stupid film. **walks off muttering to herself in anger***

1. As a few of us referred, the cover is not a friendly one. In many cases, it kept us from reading it sooner. What do you think of the story so far and the writing style? A good example of not judging a book by its cover?
I think it's pretty easy to read. I think the cover is fine but then again I've read a lot of vampire books recently so....

2. Angel's background definitely puts people on edge. The nurse and the cop surely talked to her like they had a bad taste in their mouths. It make feel sorry for her. It also made me ponder, is that the way we see people? Judging a way of life by what it looks like without caring to know if is the truth or not?
I'm sure I judge people but I tend to judge people who don't take care of themselves and want handouts. Think of it this way, if you were employing someone like Angel wouldn't you judge her too? Can't hold down a job for more than a few weeks. It hurts everyone else who works somewhere normally to take a chance on people like that. It's harsh but if someone's not willing to help themselves or at least try to then why is it someone else's responsibility to? If someone honestly wants to change then I'm all for helping and giving them a chance.

3. “a body was found a few miles further down Sweet Bayou Road. It had been decapitated.” Creepy. Do you think it has something to do with her accident? Her hallucinations sure have a lot of blood. Maybe the one who turn her has something to do with it?
I'm thinking that they decapitate them to steal their brains. I'd be a lot weirder with a bunch of brainless bodies.

4. The "energetic drinks" made me a little queasy. I think I'll never look at thick smoothies or other type of drinks the same way. Specially if they are pink.
Mmmm. pureed brains. I suppose people eat monkey brains. I guess people brains wouldn't be much worse or different.

5. How many times do we have to hear about her weak stomach? We get it. She gets sick easily and reacts badly to gross things. Or at least she used to.
You'd think it would weird her out a bit more. I'm surprised that she seems so oblivious to all the things that are different. You think the drugs not working alone would send a junkie into a freakout.

6. I though it was a nice touch that the drugs don't seem to work anymore. Maybe now she can get rid of her past and finally have a chance in life?
Unfortunately, I feel like half the drug problem is psychological not just the physical part. It's kinda like how smokers need to chew gum when they quit. She seems to keep popping pills even though they don't do anything for her and that keeps her addicted in the psychological sense.

7. The mysterious letters. The job interview. Any crazy guesses? Maybe her "creator"? Or something entirely new?
I was guessing it was some sort of Zombie group. They have them in vampire books to help the newly transitioned. I would think that the second letter could have been a bit more explanatory since she would probably believe the explanation by this point.

8. Thoughts about the characters so far? Detectives Roth and Abadie seems like they will be around for a while. Nick is what I call a "nose in the air". And what about Marcus Ivanov? He definitely makes Angel nervous.
The detectives don't seem to like each other much. Angel seems to get nervous around all of them though.

9. Angel's struggle between take the xanax or leave it, and result makes me believe that there is still hope for her. What do you think about our main character so far?
I think she's starting to come around. Or the fear of jail is enough to help push her to good decisions when she's on the fence.

1. As a few of us referred, the cover is not a friendly one. In many cases, it kept us from reading it sooner. What do you think of the story so far and the writing style? A good example of not judging a book by its cover?

I'm really enjoying the story. I think the writing style is well written. If I would have seen the book on a shelf I would have picked it up without looking at the synopsis because I love the color pink and the female on the cover looks like Pink, one of my favorite singers, and looking at the cover would have made me think the she was a vampire too.

2. Angel's background definitely puts people on edge. The nurse and the cop surely talked to her like they had a bad taste in their mouths. It make feel sorry for her. It also made me ponder, is that the way we see people? Judging a way of life by what it looks like without caring to know if is the truth or not?

It's like judging a book by it's cover. When people look at each other they assume something about that person without getting to know them. It happens all the time and it's sad but it happens everyday and I have to admit sometimes I am one of them.

3. “a body was found a few miles further down Sweet Bayou Road. It had been decapitated.” Creepy. Do you think it has something to do with her accident? Her hallucinations sure have a lot of blood. Maybe the one who turn her has something to do with it?

I definitely think it had to do with it especially with the package that was left to her with the note about the job. I think she really didn't hallucinate anything. I actually think it happened and someone is making it look like she overdosed herself instead. think the one who turned her knows something about it or was involved in it some how.

4. The "energetic drinks" made me a little queasy. I think I'll never look at thick smoothies or other type of drinks the same way. Specially if they are pink.

Well to me the description reminded me of Pepto and that's what I would think about when I every decide to even think of taking it, which might not be anytime soon.

5. How many times do we have to hear about her weak stomach? We get it. She gets sick easily and reacts badly to gross things. Or at least she used to.

It was getting annoying hearing about her queasy stomach. Apparently it doesn't bother her anymore so stop repeating it. I get it. How about the fact that she is dying to eat the brains that she sees and that her drugs are not making her high anymore. Doesn't she see anything wrong there?

6. I thought it was a nice touch that the drugs don't seem to work anymore. Maybe now she can get rid of her past and finally have a chance in life?
That was a good thing and I how that she starts to straighten out her life at home and get rid of that boyfriend too because between the problem with the Dad and with the boyfriend, she could really use a new start no matter how it comes.

7. The mysterious letters. The job interview. Any crazy guesses? Maybe her "creator"? Or something entirely new?
I think it's her creator sending her the notes but then again it could be someone how is part of that group that may have taken a liking to her.

8. Thoughts about the characters so far? Detectives Roth and Abadie seems like they will be around for a while. Nick is what I call a "nose in the air". And what about Marcus Ivanov? He definitely makes Angel nervous.
I can't stand Nick because he acts like such a snob but also annoying too. As for the detectives, I think they are going to be a part of her scene because she works for the Coroners and they tend to be at all the sights that people have died. Marcus Ivanov is a curious one and I think he knows something about Angels' change. I really want to know what he's all about and Angel tends to be nervous with everything that is going on with her.

9. Angel's struggle between taking the xanax or leaving it, and result makes me believe that there is still hope for her. What do you think about our main character so far?
I believe that the fear of going to jail or rehab is going to help her to do good with her life.
