khrome I wanted to buy a copy of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, and didn't realize there were so many translations. Could you please recommend a few good versions - meaning, that it explains everything in plain English and is easy to understand? For example, there are many straight translations of the Tao te Ching, but it doesn't mean much if you are new to the subject and can't interpret it on your own. I like books by Yang Jwing-Ming because he explains taoism instead of just translating directly to English. That's kind of what I'm looking for in a version of the Book of the Dead.

Thanks in advance!!

there's Sogyal Rinpoche's "Tibetan Book of Living and Dying," which is a very user friendly, entry level way into this work. Also, a decent translation by Francesca Fremantle and Chogyam Trungpa. Get the full size edition (not "pocket edition"), as it includes a glossary and pronunciation guide for Tibetan words that are used. I would start there, for sure!

best,
Jason
