I like this thread! I was born and raise in Mexico and even though I don't read as much Spanish literature. however my favorite book is from MexicoDiablo Guardián by Xavier Velazco this book won the Alfaguara prize (a Spanish-language literary award) in 2003, it a very fun read. I have been trying to find it in English just to see how much got lost in translation =0
