Ellen Roberts Young | 238 comments I found Wallace Steven's Collected Poems at the library, got into it and was overwhelmed. Then I realized that most of the sections had originally been separate books, so I chose one:
1. Parts of the World by Wallace Stevens
2. Native Guard by Natasha Trethewey

Reading the separate books within the Stevens sounds extremely wise. I've never been able to warm up to his poetry so I'll be curious to read your reviews of his work.

I love Stevens, and will be interested to hear what you say about Trethewey, whom I haven't read yet.

Ellen Roberts Young | 238 comments 3. As if Gravity Were a Theory by Don Colburn
4. Walking to Martha's Vineyard by Franz Wright
5. Wayward Shadow by Bruce Holsapple (if I can get through all 167 pages!)

6. Star Dust by Frank Bidart
7. In the Middle Distance by Linda Gregg
and then one in the category: local girl comes back to share her success:
8. Burn Lake by Carrie Fountain

Ellen Roberts Young | 238 comments 9. WideAwake Field by Eliza Griswold
10. The Whole Field Moving Inside It, by Molly Bashaw
11. The Book of Hours, by Marianne Boruch

Ellen Roberts Young | 238 comments 12. Rising Venus, by Kelly Cherry
13. Seasonal Works with Letters on Fire by Brenda Hillman.

That's it for this year. These last two took a lot of thinking. I've got quite a pile of books I want to read that I hoped to get to by now. Next year!

Truly--reading and reviewing one a month is much more sane pace. As you say, allows more time to think. It's great that you're reading books that require some thought. I look forward to your reviews in 2015. I definitely have carry overs as well.
