Stick stared up at the Slammer. It was almost more his home than the homestead back in the Glade. He certainly spent more time locked in here than anywhere else. This felt like a goodbye, and Stick was nearly sad to see this metal box. Nearly.
But he was ready. He spun on his heel and stalked into the maze.
But he was ready. He spun on his heel and stalked into the maze.

Alex sighed heavily, unlocking the door with the heavy brass key that he wore around his neck at all times, along with two others. He trusted most of the Gladers, but you could never be sure - especially not with grievers around.
"Hello?" Alex hammered lightly on the door, before deciding that only made him feel like an idiot and threw the door wide open. His eyes fell on the girl in front of him, staring up at the wall. He offered a nod in greeting, too tired to smile. "I brought you dinner." He held out a plate of food. "You ready to come out?"

Alex watched her, slowly, through stands of his straight, brown hair, which had a tendency to flop in his face. It was long - too long - but he didn't have time to cut it. He'd just wait until he could no longer see before hacking it off with a dagger. Being a Leader didn't exactly leave time for haircuts.
Although he was known to most of the Gladers for his gentle nature, and being the nicer of the two Leaders to deal with, Alex was one of the best fighters in the glade, and he was slightly wary of the girl on the floor beside him. He knew her reputation, and had dealt with her enough times to know that she was unpredictable and famous for her harsh words and sharp tongue. It wasn't that he didn't trust her, but he had the sense to watch her carefully.
"I suppose," Alex shrugged. "Although I've known kids who'd prefer to stay in here then get off their backsides and get back to work. Mostly greenie runners, who've just seen their first kill..." Alex tsked his tongue softly. "Poor things. Not that I'm implying you're one of them," he added, somewhat hastily. "I've dealt with all sorts, here, though."

"I'd rather work than be bored, and besides I like my job" she said honestly with a small quirky smirk. She knew that Alex wasn't that bad of a guy. And to be honest, he didn't threaten her as much as some of the other estúpido gladers.
Yes, yes that was Spanish.
Alex laughed. "That's nice to hear." He frowned, running a hand through his crop of blonde-brown hair. "Do you think it's fair, making the little ones work? I mean, I get at least fifty complaints an hour about them messing around or not wanting to work. And it's...not a secret that they die the most easily, out in the maze and stuff. I don't want to put little kids through that. But we don't have much of a choice..." Alex frowned, realising that he was spilling out his problems - and soul - to someone he barely knew. Maybe he was just desperate to talk to someone. "After Benji..."
He paused, not wanting to think about the ten year old who had died just yesterday. He hadn't even been a Runner - just a Bagger - but he'd somehow ended up in the maze, on some bizarre suicide mission to make himself look cool. The kid hadn't made it a hundred metres before he was killed. Lena Hawke - the Glade's finest runner - hadn't been able to catch him in time.
"Anyway." Alex straightened. "Whenever you're ready to leave. You're free to go, I guess." He paused, smiling awkwardly. "I guess I should probably tell you that what you did was bad and you should never do it again. I doubt you'd listen." He smiled. "Anyway. See you round...Anna."

"Right, I'll just go bow then" she said pulling herself out of the slammer. Thinking back on what Alex asked her, sbe couldn't help but think about it. Before she could stop herself the answer came out "And if you were really serious asking me, I think it fair giving them at least a small bit of work. Not as much labor as us though."
Anna felt like face palming after that had slipped out of her mouth. "Uhm so, see ya." she then said with a brief nod. Anna hesitantly started to walk away after that.
"Hey," Alex jogged after her, catching up quickly and drawing to a halt at her side. As he arrived, he realised that he didn't actually have anything to say. Oh great. Now he just looked like a total idiot standing there and stammering. "Uh... I..." He ran a hand through his hair, making an effort to keep the flush from his cheeks. "Argh. Never mind. Sorry."
He turned away, cringing. He was such an idiot... Why had he stopped her? It wasn't like he had anything to say, or like her answer had particularly called for some type of response. Nope, he'd just made a fool of himself for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
"Sorry," he mumbled, not looking back. "I'd, uh, better go."

Alex walked away, muttering to himself. He was so stupid. So stupid. He was a leader. He wasn't supposed to make stupid mistakes like that. He was supposed to be...perfect. Well, not perfect, exactly. But he was supposed to set a good example.
Resisting the urge to facepalm, Alex took a deep breath, realising that it actually didn't matter. He wasn't entirely sure why it had bothered him so much. Everyone did stupid things sometimes. It was just another minor error. He made those everyday.
And now, he had more important things to think about, judging by the little girl running towards him with tears streaming down her face. Yup. He definitely had more important things to do.
Sighing, Alex dropped to one knee and resumed him duty as leader. Whether the girl wanted a teddy bear or an axe, it was his job to sort that out for her. Not that they had teddy bears in the Glade. An axe was far more likely.

((sorry it was si short and I took so long to reply))
Alex frowned, brushing the little girl's messy hair out of her eyes, so it no longer stuck to her tear-dampened cheeks. "You okay?"
The little girl shook her head. "Nuh uh. Felix scratched me." She lifted her hand to reveal a scrape on her forearm.
Alex tsked under his breath, examining it closely. Against his will, he found himself turning back to glance at Anna, to trace her progress away from him. To his surprise, she had turned, too, and their eyes met for a moment, across the field. Alex lowered his gaze. He had things to tend to, like this little girl.
"You'll be fine," Alex soothed. "I'll take you to see Lizzie - you know Lizzie? She'll get you a plaster, and you'll be as good as new. I'm sure it was an accident."
"Nuh uh," the little girl repeated. "He called me a liar, and he said that I took his stuff and then he scratched me."
Alex tutted under his breath. Felix was a notorious trouble maker, although he was only twelve or so. He was going to have to investigate this. Alex sighed, taking the little girl's hand and leading her away. "I'm going to take you to see Lizzie now, yeah? And then we'll go talk to Felix."
