"Enjoyed friend Rick Schindler's comic novel “Fandemonium.” The book weaves a number of tales, all bound to coincide at a giant comic-con at which the announcement is to be made that a major superhero is going to be killed (and, unlike his counterpart in our real world, is not about to be quickly resurrected). The novel itself is very good, but I really, really loved its “interludes,” in which we read various documents (articles, TV transcripts, absolutely wonderful fake IMDB and comic book price-guide listings) that provide back story for the characters. The book creates a whole world of characters and activities and also offers “commentaries” on them as it moves along; yes, its characters seem to be based on certain real-life icons, but I doubt any actual comic-con was as wonderfully farcical as the one Rick paints at the end of the book."
