Here is where we'll discuss the January/February Group Read Northanger Abbey. enjoy! :-) this group read will end at end of February. We'll start nominations for our february group readalong at the end of the month.

so have any of you guys started on this yet? just curious.

I read Northanger Abbey several months ago and loved it. I hope you don't mind me joining in with the discussion when you get started, even though I won't be reading along at the same time. I'll add to the discussion rather than initiate, so I don't accidently mention any spoilers. :-)

I don't mind at all Kate. I've never read this before but hope to read it soon. This won't end until February anyway. I got a read 4 review book to read then I'll either start on this one or Peter Pan. :)

I read this almost twenty years ago as part og an Austen class in college. I think I will read it again but it will be a couple of weeks before I can start it.

I just read Northanger Abbey in December for another group so I won't be rereading it. I find it to be the least complicated most predictable of Jane Austen novels but it is not my favourite.

I did enjoy reading this book. Not complicated, and as Connie posted earlier, it is predictable. But, I kept thinking that we live in a world where we are constantly increasing our networks and making acquaintances, some we will never meet face to face, all over the world. But Austen reminds me that we should get to know people on a deeper more intimate level and really enjoy the people around us. I read a great quote the other day that said the greatest compliment someone can pay me is that they never look at their cell phone when around me. I resolve to make a concerted effort to follow Austen's example.

Well said, Terry. I agree with you about the cell phone issue. So many people are constantly checking a device while trying to have a conversation.

I'm going to start on this soon too. Hopefully after I finish Peter Pan.

Northanger abbey is the official group read and murder at the vicarage is our group readalong noam. I made northanger abbey be the group read for january and this month. We'll nominate for the group read for march towards the end of the month.

No problem noam. Holly started the group read and group readalongs back in december. I'm just helping out with it as mod since she's busy with the 2014 reading challenge group.

I've already read it, so I won't re-read it. I'm trying to get my TBR pile down.

I haven't started it yet. Others have been piquing my interest. I have this one on my tbr list so I'll start it eventually. :)

I plan on starting it sometime next week.

I have not gotten to this one yet, Noam but I will get to this one sometime this year. This one is a classic group read at another book club I am at too.

Just finished this! I'm not familiar with the books that Catherine reads in the book, but I liked the characters' discussions of the books they were reading.

There were some pretty funny parts. I liked the bit with the pages that Catherine tried to read in the dark, thinking it was like something out of one of her Gothic novels, that turned out to be a laundry list. :-)

This is my first time reading Austen, except for an attempt to read Pride and Prejudice once (I didn't finish it). I'm not sure if I want to read any of her other books. This was good but not one of my favorite classics.

Hi Beth - I know you're also in the other group Amber moderates, so I'm hoping it's OK to say this here ... have you noticed we're reading some of those novels in the new year?

Nearly finished this now. It started as a send-up of the gothic genre, but I noticed a change to more of a coming-of-age story as it progressed.
