This is a thread in which to post notifications of periodicals currently accepting submissions of poetry or short stories. Thank you to Patrick for bringing to my attention the need for such a thread!

The magazine I work for, The Alliterati magazine, is currently holding an open call for submissions. The deadline for our 14th Issue is February 8th.For more information, go here: http://alliteratimagazine.com/submiss...
Narlyn posted this as a thread. The W.S.S. doesn’t have a thread tailored to something like this, so I’m re-posting it here. -------
[January 14, 2014]
Hi everyone!
I'm Narlyn, a Mass Communication student who desperately needs literary works (poems, short stories, essays, etc) about MUSIC (music & life, music & love, love for music.. anything which involves music) for my literary folio (a collection of literary works)
Proper credits to your writings will be given. I'll post a copy of my literary folio with your work on it after so please, please do share :)
Thank you very much!!!!!!
Hi everyoneAre you prepared to contribute a short or poem for charity?
I edit (and contribute to) an annual anthology of short stories and poetry which Words and Water Group publish in support of WaterAid. The writers retain full copyright of their work and can simultaneously publish anywhere else. I say 'annual' very grandly - this is actually our 2nd year (!) but we've had huge success with 2013, heading towards 1,500 downloads and with mostly reviews that are all 5* (bar one - 4*). We hope to do as well in 2014. With your help we can.
I'll be starting the formatting and compiling in June so you have until the end of May to submit a story to me if you've a mind to. Full details and some discussion about it are here:

Thanks :)
For those of you who write science fiction or fantasy, you must always keep in mind the Writer's of The Future Contest established by L. Ron Hubbard. Yes, it is a contest but the winners get their works published in an annual anthology. There is a contest every quarter and you can send in a new story every quarter if you like. I've done so myself and though I've been rejected, I find these to be the most pleasant rejection letters I've ever received!
At the site I run with Deina Furth, ''The Short Story and Flash Fiction Society'' we have compiled some ebooks with plenty of short story markets and links to their submissions guidelines. Check them out, they are helpful http://www.shortstoryflashfictionsoci...
Anyone heard of this website - http://www.inkitt.com/homeThey have competitions, and there are prizes too! Enter your best WSS stories and be in to win!
...SSFFS also offer great opportunities to write guest author posts as a way of getting your written work seen by a wider audience: http://www.shortstoryflashfictionsoci...

I'm a winner of this contest, and it was a great experience. If anyone has any questions about it feel free to ask!
Found a website that accepts horror novels for review:-http://horrornovelreviews.com/
If you've written a decent horror novel (they HATE zombies) then this might be the place for you to get recognised.

My good friend, Rose, is the editor of a wonderful online journal named Houseboat. Houseboat is a long-standing and highly-regarded journal featuring many great poets, authors, photographers and artists. For anyone aspiring to have their work published, Rose has put out a call for submissions. I've worked with Rose in the past and have nothing but respect for her friendly nature and fast, professional handling of submissions.
Guidelines and contact details for Rose are available here: Houseboat Submissions.
I always get a buzz when I see my writing published and can't recommend Houseboat highly enough.
