It depends on how they demonstrate/give it, when and where they use it, the reason for it being used, the amount that it is being given, and other various things

It's weird because the people I'm friends with (and me) might disobey the occasional, "do your laundry", "eat your vegetables", "go to sleep NOW", but we would never do anything other than maybe argue back over something small., whereas a lot of the people I know in the grade below us are doing drugs and beating up younger kids, and I feel like this is a result of parenting-gone-wrong. You always see those 3 year olds on TV screaming, "I don't love you anymore" after their mother denies them a cookie or something, or calling them the b-word because their parent decided to raise their voice or something.
So yeah, I guess I'm saying I think tough love is needed. Not enough so that your child hates you, but enough so that your kid won't become a jerk or become so shielded from the negatives of life that they keel over and die upon entering the real world.
I hope that made sense/flowed smoothly, I have music playing and I always type wonkily when that happens.

Oh god, don't tell me they actually do that!
Imagine that on gun commercials. "if your mommy loves you, she'd be buying you this DSR-Precision DSR 50 Sniper Rifle RIGHT NOW!"
(I looked that up.)

I was hit and so on but not abused. My parents used to do that to me as a punishment. I used to cursed them like a sailor in my head and ask God why parents are like that and just let me die. Well the good thing is i learned from my mistakes and didn't rebel in return. I am trained in doing houseworks everyday as a discipline and i thank them because i'm not like other teenagers who knows nothing but smoke pot and do drugs and be a total brat. As i grew up the punishment too, stops. When i reach the point where i am capable of understanding right and wrong they let me be. I may made some mistakes but they just shout at me now and guide me which way to go.
Tough love is the only kind of affection that lasts. As opposed to 'soft', a tough feeling is everlasting. Plus, you can't trust anyone who always says careless yes and agrees on any state of yours, specially when it comes to parenting. Sometimes, a sound 'No' is a proof that the other person is actually listening, and being brave to oppose to you is a way to express respect to your opinion. Frankly, people who agree on everything couln't care less.
