Justin (justinbienvenue) Has anyone ever read this or plan on reading it? I'm currently reading it and I gotta say it's really good. I know a lot of people may think it to be farfetched or unrealistic given the fact that our 16th president was so acclaimed and one of the finest, but it really delivers a good balance of actual historical accounts and detailed fiction. I'm also a fan of Lincoln so this is also giving me a lot more information on his life, aside from the vampire thing of course.

I would be interested to know what anyone elses thoughts on this book are.

Jennifer | 239 comments I wasn't planning on reading it - honestly, I thought that it would be dumb - but a friend read it and recommended it so I picked up awhile back. I loved it! It was a great combination of real history (most of where and what Lincoln did as he grew up was factual) with fantasy (obviously he didn't hunt vampires). I also enjoyed how they changed famous photos to make them work with the fictional story. Very impressive as far as I was concerned.

Now if you enjoy the book please don't see the movie they did on it; it was awful and I hated every minute of it!

Justin (justinbienvenue) Agreed Jennifer. I'm enjoying the historical value of real events. Being a fan of Lincoln I find learning new things about his life to be facinating. I knew the photos were altered yet I was confused because I didn't think they could do such things. Definitely a cool part about the book.

So the movie doesn't do the book justice eh? Hmm..I'll remember that although when it hits cable and I see it on I know I'll be tempted to watch it lol.

Yeah, I was excited about the movie after reading the book but once I started watching it I was tempted to turn it off (and I rarely stop watching movies that I start, I guess I just keep hoping that they will get better). Anyway, The movie was poorly done and the book's narration was totally lost. Just a cheesy job of it and a disappointment. If you plan on watching it just don't have high hopes like I did and you should be fine.

If you enjoy Lincoln and that time in history I highly recommend reading My Thoughts Be Bloody The Bitter Rivalry Between Edwin and John Wilkes Booth That Led to an American Tragedy by Nora Titone . It is about the Booth family, how Booth came to assassinate Lincoln and how it affected his family. Was very well done and enlightened me on that side of the story.

Justin (justinbienvenue) Thanks Jennifer I'll keep that in mind. I'll also look into that book. I go another one on my to reads list called Blood on the Mood: The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln that I plan on reading at some point.

Justin (justinbienvenue) While I know a lot on Lincoln and have learned a lot from this books I am still wondering something; exactly how much of real information was somehow tied in by adding vampires. So far I can clearly see some clear moments while others I'm left guessing to. Either way it's done so well that one would think that Lincoln in fact was a hunter, how cool would that have been though.

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 210 comments I read the book in 2012 before the movie came out. I thought the book was good. I liked it.

Justin (justinbienvenue) So I just finished reading it. I started in May of last year and finally finished last night. I must say that it went way beyond my expectations for sure. The vampirism and the factual history of Lincoln's life really does come together quite nicely. I consider it to be one of the best books I have ever read and maybe that seems like a bit much for some but; I really enjoyed it. I posted a lenghty review here on Goodreads(probably) one of my most thorough.

Perhaps I will see the movie at some point despite being warned at others suggestion, but given that I've already read the book and enjoyed it so much I don't think the movie will hurt my feelings toward the book form of it.

Marybeth (narutofan14) I've been wanting to read this and see the movie but I haven't found it yet

Justin (justinbienvenue) Read the book first, if you do. I heard the movie doesn't portray it as well.
