RULES
Here are the rules of how to write in and what to do with this notebook.
How to start...
1. Open the notebook to the newest entry (story) and read all the way through it until there is nothing left.
2. Make sure to sign your name on the author's page in the front of the entry before you write. If you wish, you can date it but ONLY on the author's page. If you contribute to the same story more than once, you can write the date again next to your name on the author's page.
3. Write in a different color than someone else if you have similar handwriting. For example, if you see that there is similar writing in the entry already, write in a different color. If a color is used once, try your best not to use it again. If you are a frequent contributor, try to use the same color every time you write.
4. Note that if you have contributed, it will likely be posted online. So if you don't want your name online, write a pen name.
What you can do...
1. If a story is not finished yet, do not start another story! There must be a 'the end' at the end of a finished story so we know that it is done and a new one can begin.
2. You can use blanks. If you do this, the next writer can fill them in. For example, you can write, "She rode a ______ to the city of _______ in the year of _______", and someone can fill it in as "She rode a unicorn to the city of Jerusalem in the year of 1"
3. You can also leave sentences hanging, so the next author can start there. For example, you can write "She then said, ' " and leave the rest blank, or you can write "And so, she walked down the" and stop there.
4. YOU CAN NOT CROSS OUT PARTS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN. The only exception is small words/phrases that are incorrect, for example, if someone wrote, "The murderers of the Pazzi" if the Medici are being murdered, you can cross out the word 'Pazzi' and write 'Medici' instead.
5. You can write at least a sentence and no more than three pages at one time.
6. Don't ruin a story. I mean, if it's a serious story, don't make it into some silly fairy tale all of the sudden.
7. Be silly! (If it's appropriate to the story) We once wrote a story, and one of the contributors added an intermission. It said, "INTERMISSION - snacks $1.00 ea.", then she continued writing.
8. Only the first or last contributor can add a title. If you are in the middle, you can add a possible title on the bottom of the author's page IN PENCIL so it can be erased.
How to start a new story...
1. Make sure the previous story is finished. It should probably end with some form of the words "the end" and nothing after that.
2. Create an author's page. You can see the other author's pages that have been added, but make sure it says "Sign Here for this story". Leave that page and the next page (the back or one opposite it) blank so authors can sign their names. Then, continue by starting a story.
3. A story can be anything! If you need inspiration, you can go online and look some stuff up, or even write a fan fiction or something similar. You can even write a sequel to one of the previous stories in the notebook.
FINAL RULE: have fun!!!
