The Hunger Games is a science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. The themes in this book have to do with poverty, survival, government control, rebellion, suppression, love, and sacrifice. The nation of Panem, with its twelve Districts and Capitol, is about to go through another session of The Hunger Games. There was a revolt 74 years ago with the districts against the Capitol and it caused the Hunger Games to begin where the districts are forced to send a boy and a girl to a death match every year. Katniss Everdeen enters for The Hunger Games when they call her sister, Prim Everdeen. She often sacrifices her own protection and life for those she loves and holds dear. In an attempt to save her sister from The Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place, and that is when they call the boy, Peeta Mallark from district 12. “I don't want them to change me in there. Turn me into some kind of monster that I'm not” (page 141) were the words that Peeta said to Katniss before The Hunger Games began. This shows that it is in fact a big deal and the Games are capable of turning an individual into a violent monster. They put up quite a show while fighting for their lives, making friends and enemies along the way. This book is an action filled adventure with life lessons, politics, and a hidden love story. It takes you on a journey through the Hunger Games and reveals every detail through katniss’ eyes.
I agree with you completely, and I LOVE this book. I read all three of them in less than a week because I just couldn't put them down. I have also seen the two movies that have come out for this series, and I enjoyed them, but I would definitely read the books before seeing the movie if anyone is interested because they are a lot more detailed and just better overall. It really brings out some suspense, and makes you question things, especially in society and how life would be like if this were real.
I loved this book! It kept you right on the edge of your seat! I agree that you should definitely read the books before seeing the movie! The book is written in such detail you feel like your practically standing right next to Katniss! This book makes me wonder if the author questions that this is the direction North America is heading.
