Is anyone angry that this book was leaked before Stephenie Meyer could finish it?
Do you think it was better hearing the story from Edwards point of view?
Should Stephenie Meyer finish Midnight Sun?

message 2: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 452 comments I think she is secretly working on the book or has already completed it. How could she let her fans down and just tease us?

She was writing it, but when a friend of hers leaked it on the internet she was depressed and felt that there was no point in continuing it. I think she was embarrassed, because it wasn't the finished copy., which meant there were still a lot of grammatical errors and whatnot. I feel terrible for her. I would hate it if something like that happened to me.

Having said that I don't think that she should punish her fans for what an ignorant person did. I think that most people want to hear Edwards side of the story, and I actually enjoyed the little bit of Midnight Sun that she finished. I thought that it was more interesting than Twilight, to be honest.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 654 comments I was very angry about that whole situation and can totally understand how Stephenie must have felt about it. I still to this day refuse to read the partial draft, partially because it was this person's unethical behavior that caused her to have to post it in the first place and partly because I don't want to be teased with only half a story. I do hope she finishes it someday.

J.D. Stroube | 2393 comments Mod
I only read it once she posted it on her site. I really feel bad when I think of how long she worked on the partial draft, only to have it ruined for her when it was leaked. Plus, she only trusted the partial draft to a few trusted individuals. It stinks to find out that you put your faith/trust in the wrong person. :(

message 6: by Karyn (new)

Karyn (honestbutevil) | 37 comments There are rumours that she is working on it. But I can understand why she wouldn't want to. If one of my friends did that to me I would be really angry too.

I think she should finish it because Edward should make more sense than Bella. There were times when I thought Bella was quite irritating and from the partial draft Edward doesn't seem to be as annoying.

message 7: by new_user (new)

new_user I don't know. Objectively, I would say it's a small setback that shouldn't prevent her from releasing another hit.

But as another writer, I can understand the blow that I would take if one of my works was released so publicly without permission-- actually, it's happened to other authors historically (even before the advent of the interwebs, LOL) and they didn't take it well either. It's like losing one's clothes in public and someone taking a lasting picture. She probably would have gotten over it, but she's already moved on to other stuff, I think.

Maybe she'll come back to it in a few years, once everyone has forgotten about the incident...

I'm personally hoping that she stays in the same basic genre. I wasn't interesting in reading the Host, but my husband liked it. I would like for her to write something still along the lines of vamps, shifters, werewolves etc, but completely switch it up. She needs to be a little more creative though, because there was ALOT more she could have done with the twilight series...

That's part of the reason why I would love for her to do a series on shifters! :)
I haven't found very many, but if you go onto my profile I have a shelf filled with shifter/werewolves. :)
L.J. Smith includes some shifters in her Nightworld series. I remember one of them could shift into a panther. I never put that one on my shelf though...

message 12: by Anne (new)

Anne I went through her website, and read it online. I thought it was better than Twilight, even with the errors. I really hope she finishes it.

I was upset about the story being leaked too because I doubt she will finish the story and release it to the public.

I would love to see her do a werewolf series.

J.D. Stroube | 2393 comments Mod
It might be interesting for her to do a series about a coven of witches...

January February March | 82 comments Did anyone read "the Host?" I actually favor it over the vampire series! Way better and less repetitive. I think Meyers should continue on that genre...I couldn't put the book down and it's not a quick read.

I read Midnight Sun. It was interesting and I'm sorry it was leaked but I say let it lie. Perhaps it's a sign to move on to something else...

message 17: by Anne (new)

Anne I read The Host sometime last year and liked it. I didn't love it, but I thought it was an interesting take on the old Invasion of the Body Snatchers theme. I think it will be hard for Meyers to write anything else and not have it compared to her Twilight books.

January February March | 82 comments Too true Jo and Anne. HAHA! Joanne! What a coincidence! Nevermind. It's like with Tolkein. Lord of the Rings eclipsed his other works even in life. I see Meyer's fame (and Rowland's) as a nice challenge for them. Kind of like, "What else you got in yo bag o'tricks?" I'm looking forward to finding out!

By the by, now that you mention it Jo, it's true. "The Host" does start out REALLY slow. And then, like a roller coaster, you reach a precipice and it's all obssessive reading on breaks and staying up till three in the morning to see what happens next. Good times.

message 19: by new_user (new)

new_user Yeah, I'm not big on the Body Snatchers theme, but I think I might read Host after all. Is there romance? LOL.

message 21: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I'm reading The host currently. Yeah, its a slow slow slow slow start, but thankfully not littered with repetitive phrases and emotions like in the Twilight series. Am halfway through the book now and am actually beginning to really enjoy it. I think it's pretty gripping now, and hope it holds. And yes, there's a bit of romance. :-)

message 22: by Anne (new)

Anne new_user wrote: "Yeah, I'm not big on the Body Snatchers theme, but I think I might read Host after all. Is there romance? LOL."

Of course there's romance...it's Stephanie Meyers, after all! Only instead of true love between a human and a vampire, it's true love between a human and a slug/jellyfish-thing who attaches itself to a human's brain stem. Awwwww! Ok, it sounds a lot more romantic coming from Meyers...

January February March | 82 comments I agree, I am not usually a fan of the whole body snatchers storyline but Meyers' take on it really pulled me in. There is romance but it's not necessarily the core of the story. It does make you see the beauty in humanity and really hi-lights how amazing the human soul is which gave me goose bumps in certain parts of the book. Such a great read but yeah, it's definitely a slow beginning.

message 24: by Anne (new)

Anne I think what made The Host different was that the evil body-snatchers were, well...sweet. Making the "bad guys" a race of aliens who have an almost childlike innocence to them, was a stroke of genius by Meyers. Even though you don't want them to win, you can't really hate them because on the whole they seem to be a better race than we are. You can almost understand why they think it is ok to do what they are doing. It made the story more complex and touching.

I completely agree and making the body snatcher the main character was pretty friggin' smart. I really loved her and I really loved the ending! Do you think there will be a sequal? I really hope so...

I heard (somewhere??) that she was working on a sequal to The Host. I haven't been able to find anything out about it since then, so I could have been mistaken. I would still rather have her finish Midnight Sun, though. I liked the partial draft (mistakes and all) better than Twilight...and I loved Twilight (sigh).

If you look on Goodreads she is making it into a trilogy. I think that they only recently added it though...so thats probably why you couldnt find it...

The Host
The Seeker
The Soul

Holy banana balls! THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I HAVE HEARD ALLLLLL WEEK!!!! I did my happy dance just now...which was awkward as I'm at my friend's house...and there are a lot of people around...hmmm.
WORTH IT! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THE NEWS!

No worries. I told everyone I thought I saw a bug on me. I think they bought it...but they DO know me so that's highly unlikely.

YAY! A NEW SERIES TO BECOME OBSSESSED WITH!

Jackie (thenightowl) I really hope she finishes this draft and doesn't plan on punishing fans forever. I read it after it was posted on her site and I really enjoyed it. It was enlightening to get Edward's side of the story and to get in his head. It makes him less creepy than he appeared in Twilight.

message 35: by Anne (new)

Anne Tsk. Jo, Jo, Jo. Your killing the romantic angle here by bringing up that whole "Edward Wanted To Kill Bella" thing (If I had a nickel for every time I wanted to kill my husband...)! LOL
I agree with you, Joy. Edward's version WAS way better than Bella's.

I hated having to sit in front of the computer and read it, but it was definately worth it!

Jo, I knew you would find a way to make me laugh! I like the idea that he had no idea that he shouldn't be spying on her because he had been a bachlor for too long! Maybe he had been living in the basement of his "momma's" house too long! LOL

Yeah...I'm not crazy about reading books on the computer either. That bugged me...

I'd like to read the rest of Jacobs story too, but I want SM to wait a while. I think waiting a few years might be in her best interest, and I'd enjoy his story more.

message 39: by Anne (new)

Anne I think you're right, Joy. It would be in her best interest to wait a few years.

You think The Host is great?! You're blowing me away here, Jo! I expected you to say you thought it was creepy that a human could fall for a slug! Where is the snarky girl I've come to love? LOL

I completely agree! Midnight sun is better. I also liked how some of the odd things Edward did were somehow clarified in Midnight sun. I also only read the draft after she posted it on her website.

However, she may be very angry I feel like she is stomping her feet and wailing on the ground acting very unprofessional. She should finish the book and move on or completely get rid of it (I rather she finished it). Many people who have already read the draft would most defiantly buy the book just to read the ending. What is she worried about?

What you find on the internet is a leaked unfinished version of Midnight Sun, and when it leaked, Meyer was really upset about it and decided not to finish the book.
Yes, it's Edwards version of Twilight.

You can read it on Meyers website. After it was leaked, she decided to post it on her own site so that people wouldn't have to read it illegaly. That's where I read it. I don't like reading books on the computer either. However, if you read for short spurts it isn't too bad. It's worth it! :)

I read this in a few short hours. It's only about 200 pages and it reads similar to Twilight...very light, easy and addicting. I normally don't like reading for hours off the computer either, but I think it was worth doing just to get Edward's perspective on the situation. :-)

From what I've heard eventually she plans on finishing it and publishing it, but she is working on other projects and it seems like Midnight Sun is not on her priority list.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

In a recent interview with several Twilight fan sites, Stephenie addressed the matter of Midnight Sun. From what I gather, it seems like she wants to finish it, but is just not sure when the right time for it is. I'm curious to know what you guys think? Do you think she'll wait until all of the Twilight films have been released or maybe after she's published something non-Twilight related?

message 49: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (ontariogal) | 47 comments I think she'll wait until it's not expected. I think the hype needs to die down a bit for her to feel in the mood for giving it attention. Can't say I blame her for feeling betrayed. But I do hope she does actually finish it!
