Eleanor says she and Park are too young for true love. What are your thoughts on whether true love can happen at their age?

Leslie (ljyoder) | 1 comments I think that is their love is absolutely true love; a lovely first true love. There feelings for each other are not about peer pressure or being cool - they are connected based on shared interests and they are friends.

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) I think that this is true first love which will never be forgotten. Is it lasting love though? They're only 16! And they're geographically separated. It's hard to see how they can continue to be intimate as they grow up and change. Many adult relationships don't survive commuter relationship.

I'd like to think that they will meet again sometime, maybe in their twenties. They'll have a tender flash. But they'll both have had other relationships, lost their virginity, be focused on different life goals. Yet they'll still recognize how precious their friendship is. Like Will and Grace or Hawkeye and Trapper John. They'll write, phone (it's still the 80's) and later text and email one another frequently. They'll have reunions several times a year where they go out for dinner and tell one another about their lives. They'll godparent one another's children.

Okay, I'm starting a fanfic now... Did I mention that this is one of my fave books?

Definitely true love, and a great depiction of first true love. It's not love at first sight, either, but I do think they are interested in each other at first sight, for different reasons. I love how their love for each other develops as they get to know one another.
