Kayla walked onto the baseball field, her house just a few blocks away. She didn't catch a ride with Drayven as she usually would. He was for some reason late. She didn't care though, Drayven was like that sometimes. And she didn't mind walking, gave her exercise. She was texting Caleb though, so he was giving her entertainment as she did so. Being sick is horrible. She text him, not telling him that she was going to be at school that day. She had been absent since they last seen each other. The first time was she went with Ash to counseling for the first two, then caught a cold when they were out of town.
Caleb glanced at the text. Urgh. I know. I'm sorry. Watch some movies, not sad ones though he replied back before looking back up to walk. He usually wouldn't have but he figured that he may as well since he needed to strecth his legs. They were usually cooped up inside so it did them some good to stretch. Caleb glanced up at the sky and added another text for her It may rain today though
Kayla walked up the bleachers, knowing she had quite awhile before school started, at least ten to twenty minutes. Well, probably not that, more like 15. So she had some time to goof off. She looked up to the sky when she got his last text that interrupted the one she was typing. I hope so, that'd be pretty awesome. She wrote back, And why and how did you know that I would watch sad movies? They're the best, especially when they have somewhat happy endings.... I guess. o.o
Sad movies are good but not while you're sick. They bring you down and then its all depressing and then its just a giant hot mess he replied And I know. The rain would be awesome through walk through as well - I didn't bring a car or anything he added before sending it. He looked at his watch that told him how much time he had before he would have to go and start walking off to homeroom. A good 10-15 minuets he guessed
Kayla read that he was walking, wondering how awesome it would be for them to be going the same way. She looked back, seeing him then. She jumped down on the bleacher and hid behind one of the seats. She started texting him, Look behind you. She smirked, starting to make her way down the bleachers. She thought she could get to him on time if she ran. She was wearing her sneakers so she shouldn't make to much noise either.
Caleb was puzzled. OK...? he texted her and then turned. There was no one behind him - except for a bunch of prissy girls, and jocks. No one is here. Well except for the prissy girls, and jocks. But I doubt you want me to see those idiots he sent her
She dashed off when he turned around, trying not to make any noise as she did. She looked behind him when she was a few feet in front of him. Yeah, probably not. Guess I told you the wrong direction.... Sorry. She was trying not to laugh. Better get to class, you might be late.
OK. Bye? he texted her back turning. He tucked away his phone and turned around to see her right in front of her. Suddenly he began cracking up. "Not bad." he said through a fit of laughter. "Not bad at all."
She laughed when he turned around, smiling brightly up at him. "Hiya!" She said rocking on her heels. "And thank you. Didn't expect me didja? And did I scare you?" She had an idea that she didn't just because he didn't have the exact reaction she was hoping for. But that was fine.
"Hey. No you didn't scare me, but no I didn't expect you." he said answering her two questions. "But you did make me laugh if that helps." he grinned. He began walking along side of her
She nodded, giggling, "Yeah, that helps." She said, "Oh, and like I said, it sucks to be sick. But it makes you feel a hell of a lot better when you get over it." She said. The air was sort of chill, so she had her jacket over her shoulders. Of course, it should heat up soon because of the usual weather. She sighed happily at the sky, seeing the dark clouds. "Storm clouds." She said, "Nice ones, probably going to start raining about two." She had seen the news before and that's what they said. "Of course.... that means I'm going to get to walk home in it." She giggled a bit, "Drayven's gunna go home early to save his bike, I can already tell."
Caleb grinned. "Glad I could help. And you never added that part in with your texts." he said. "Storm clouds are always nice. Around two? Nah my money's more on one. Look at them." he said gesturing. "No way it would wait that long."
"I know. I was going to surprise you I was at school actually by putting a paint bomb in your locker." She chuckled. "But of course, this worked way better because Drayven didn't get a paint bomb." She sighed. "And yeah, I guess. I want it where I can go out and have some fun in it though. Even though it might make me sicker than a dog again."
"Then I'll get sick with you. And seriously? A paint bomb in my locker?" he asked her. "I'll make sure to get a second locker somehow then." he said. "Make a mental note. Get new locker."
She laughed, nodding, "Oh yeah. Totally. First I'd take out things though, make sure nothing got ruined Mr. Hack." She said the last part more quietly, not knowing if it was safe to say outside. "And alright! We can have a sick party and watch movies and eat stupid food we can't taste!"
"Well thank you for that." he said. The statment had a double meaning, one thank you for not getting all of his things dirty and two for saying the hack part quietly. Teachers were always around and Caleb didn't really care if students knew but if teachers did then he was screwed.
She nodded as they got to the front of the school. "So, what class do you have first? Since we're in different grades I wouldn't know." She laughed lightly. "You might have one with Drayven though...." She pursed her lips, "You know, if he decides to go."
"Science." he groaned. "I don't want to go. I wonder if they'll notice me missing..." he trailed off. "I usually sit in the back, not making a sound soooo...it wouldn't be surprising."
She laughed a bit, "Don't they take roll?" She asked, "But I guess you could always change it...." She muttered quietly. "And I have art class, going to paint some more." She rocked her hand to the side. "I just hope it turns out good, I'm trying a new style."
"You'll do fine." he reassured her. "And no. Not my teacher. What he does is that we each have this card thing and if we take it we're here. Anyone who isn't he marks as absent. What I can do is take the card thing that has my name, and then return it after the periods over so I can seem like I was always there."
She nods, smiling a bit, "Sounds like a plan." She said. "If I could work outside of the art room I would. And you can come in there if you want with me." She offered. "Well, after you go and snatch your card away." She winked.
"I may just ditch homeroom and go and get food for myself." he said. "Its been a while since I've done that. And if anyone catches me that's when my lyingness comes in handy." he added
She laughed a bit, "If you do, get me fries." She winked. "They're my favorite for some reason." She nodded. She always had room for fries in her diet. Even though she didn't need to diet as she didn't eat that much. Probably not good for her, but she was fine.
"Kay. I'll see what I can find." he agreed as a teacher happened to walk past them muttering. Caleb rolled his eyes. "Whos that?" he asked her wondering if she knew. He seemed new yet...familer.
Kayla turned to look at the teacher, walking backwards like a weirdo. "No idea." She spun back, almost hitting a pole, her eyes wide as she stopped. She side stepped it, bumping shoulders with Caleb. "Why does he glare at you?" She asked. "Or at us?"
Caleb shrugged. "I'm not sure...but I'll find out." he promised. He didn't like it when adults took special interest in him. It made it hard to do anything around here and messed up his entire schedule.
She nodded, smiling a bit. Guys freaked her out when they looked at her like that. As if they know something about her. Like they know her father and they're going to tell him where they are. That wouldn't be a good thing. She reached the front doors, leaning on the wall.
Caleb glanced at her. "You ok?" he asked her. She seemed freaked out about something. "Its probably some old wartbag who hates kids and is out to make out life a living hell." he told her
She nodded, not wanting to go into her past and just letting it go on him. He didn't deserve that. Her story was to depressing, to tell. "And probably, he's probably just wondering how to break us up or something. Because teachers always think if a girl and guy hang out they're together or something." She rolled her eyes. "I once had a teacher that would do that to the students."
"Seriously? Most of the teachers I've had they've been all 'go out and make friends with your peers. And if they happen to be the other gender - even better!' all over us. I think they found it easier for pairings or something like that." he shrugged
She nodded a bit, "That's true.... my teacher always said that no high school relationship works." She looked at her clock, only seeing a 0 on it because she had run out of years, she had months. She didn't say that though. She didn't want her time to go out, she was terrified of it. She didn't know the time, of course, she didn't ever want to know it. The only one that mattered was the years to her, and only when things were getting worse for her. For hope."It's funny when the time stops for high school students together though." She giggled, "It's like, no suck it." She said.
"Really? Then why are there so many relationships? As in why do we keep trying?" he asked her. Yes there was the obvious, to find who works for you but still. His own watch had no more years and a couple of months, days, hours, minuets, seconds. It was rather sad in some way but still. Thats life.
She yawns, "Because we're creatures of socialization. We can't handle being alone. It's not healthy to be." She said. "We keep trying because the clock stops when we fall in love, not when we meet the one we love." She said with a small smile. "That's why we keep trying."
"That sounds like you put a lot of thought into it." he commented. "Yeah its true and it also makes you sound wise." he told her. "Is that what you were going for?"
She laughed a bit, "I kinda thought about it when I was having a hard time in my life." She said. She tilted her head later when he asked if that was what she was going for, "What do you mean?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.
"Hard time?" he asked her curious but not wanting to get into it if she didn't. He was puzzeled. "What part of it you didn't understand?" he asked her confused on why she was confused
"You asked if that's what I was going for, and it confused me." She explained by answering his second question. She blushed when he asked about her hard times, she looked to the ground. She took a step away from the wall, unzipping her jacket to show her black tank top. She turned a bit, pulling down the back of it, showing off her small scars on her back. "My dad...." She sighed." She put her jacket back on. "And then my first boyfriend. Those were the worst times. The watch showed me that I had hope of finding someone who would treat me right." She said with a small smile.
Caleb saw the small scars and instantly understood. Abusive father and probably something like that with the boyfriend. "Oh." he stated. "I'm sorry." he said genuinely. He usually didn't mean those, to a lot of people.
"It's fine." She said brushing hair from her face, acting as if it was nothing but a scratch. "It's just nerve wracking to know he could be looking for my mother and I still." She said but again, just shrugged it off. "But I won't bore you with my story." She winked with a smirk.
"Your story couldn't bore me." he told her. "But if he comes then fight. Like a tiger." he said with a smile. She seemed like the type to fight back which was good. She could protect herself and her mother and that was always useful.
She smiled, "Well, it's a long one so it'd take longer than what we have left before school starts." She said, "So, maybe later?" She said cocking her head again. "And hell yeah." She said, "Plus, now my mother and I can fend for ourselves for once." She smiled.
"Sure. I'm always here to listen." he told her which was true. He could always listen to another person, but he could never talk about his own past. "And thats good. That your mom and you can fight for yourself"
She nods, "I just hope he doesn't bring his little pistol.... I can fight hand and hand, I can't fight a bullet." She laughed. She blushed a bit when he said she could always talk to him, "And thank you.... a lot." She said looking up at him.
"No problem. Thats what I'm here for. To help out my few friends." he shrugged. "If he brings a gun text me and I'll get there. And bring something you can fight with to even out the playing field." he told her.
She laughs a bit, "That is if I can text you." She said. She crossed her arms over her chest, looking up at the sky. It wasn't raining yet, which was a bummer, but it was fine... At least the sun wasn't killing them. "But I wouldn't want you where he is. He's insane."
"I've seen insane and dealt with it. Fairly certain I can handle him as well." he told her quietly. "And if you can't text call 911 and put them on speaker so they can hear everything. Then they'll know." he told her.
She nods, smiling softly. "Alright, thanks." She looked up at him, "And you've dealt with insane people too?" She asked. "We're more alike than I thought before." She said. It was true. They were insanely alike.
Caleb nodded and thought it all over. They had a lot of things in similar. In so many ways she was the girl version of him. "Yeah I have." he told her. "And I know. We really are alike. Imagine if we're twins separated at birth." he asked her. "That would be insane."
