IGGPPC : Iggle BookWorms discussion

Hello all! Since we've had a flood of new members in the past couple of days, I figured I would make a little place for everyone to say a bit about themselves- for example, a little bio, your IGGPPC House, geeky loves, and whatever else floats your boat. I'll start:
My name's Elizabeth, but most call me Lizzie. I'm in House Granger, and some of my favorite geeky things are Star Wars, LOTR, Adventure Time, Marvel, anime/manga, and obviously, books. I live in North Carolina, and am currently a senior in high school.

I'm Reed (also June), and firebrarian on IGGPPC. I'm in House GlaDOS, and I like comics/graphic novels, Sherlock Holmes, Japanese things (especially kimono), tabletop gaming, and firefighting. I'm a librarian in Pennsylvania.

I'm Lianne from Canada :) I'm in House GlaDOS (though I haven't popped in there much *blushes*) and some of my favourite geeky things include LOTR, Doctor Who, Babylon 5/space opera, Orphan Black, books (!!!), comics (yay Marvel!), history (studied Russian history for quite a while in uni) and period dramas (that can be geeky...right? Especially when mixed in with history? :))

I'm in love with Japan and everything about it too, Reed. Also, librarian? Awesome! That's what I'm thinking about as my career. :D

History & period dramas! Love them both. I was actually thinking for our March book theme, "What Point in History Would You Most Like to Live In", and suggesting a book in that time period. :3

Amanda from Alabama! House Quinn [but only for 9 more months :(]. I love Harry Potter and books of all sorts... I have my own mini library with a collection of almost 400 books. I also like owls, Supernatural, all things paranormal, everything concerning WWII/Holocaust, Studio Ghibli films and 90's sitcoms.

Hi! I'm Lydia and I am in House GlaDOS. I love LOTR, Harry Potter, Tim Burton, and Game of Thrones. I'm also quite into French Revolution history. I am an avid reader and have my own library in our house. I'm also a cat fan. :)

Hi all! I'm Anna, I'm a librarian in MA and am in House GlaDOS. I love Star Trek, especially TNG, BSG, Doctor Who, A Song of Ice and Fire (and the tv show, too, I guess....), Lord of the Rings books not movies, crafting, snacking, and more. Glad to see other librarians here!

Hi I'm Kate *waves* I'm a baker as in the sense of I work in a bakery and baking is also one of my favourite past times :) I'm in house GlaDos. Geek loves to name a few Books, Books, Harry Potter, books, true blood, crafting, Disney, fairy tales and magical creatures, and Erm.... Books?

Ooh, definitely will need to ponder on that question if you decide to go through with that theme! (I can never come up with a good answer for these sorts of questions, despite loving history and all, lol)

Hi everyone! I'm Kari and I'm in House Organa (I feel old....). I'm the mom of two little ones who I am currently raising to be little geekettes. My 7 year old has read 5 of the Harry Potter books so far and I'm hoping to get the 2 year old hooked on Batman soon. Then, my friends, my life will be complete! I love everything, pretty much. I'll at least try it once. I'm mostly regularly obsessed with Joss Whedon, Veronica Mars, Kevin Smith, Batman, Harley Quinn, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Sherlock, Luther, & Yotsuba. I read A LOT which makes this next statement odd: I'm horrible at book groups. I don't know why this happens, but it does, but I'm gonna try hard this time! Nice to meet you all!

Kari. I am also rubbish at book groups. My issue is I like to read books in my own time. My cousin is forever telling me "you have to read this" and "you have to read that" and as soon as she stops "telling" me I have to read a book I might read it. So you might suggest an awesome book, but I won't read it right away. I think it's my stubbornness that does it :/

That's exactly how I am Kate! When everyone's raving about a book too it takes me forever to get to it. I'll buy it or borrow it, but then not until months later will I finally get around to reading it. Then I'll smack myself in the forehead and say 'what the heck took you so long?!' unless it sucks. :p

Kari the only books I read when everyone is raving about them is if it's part of a series and I've been waiting for the book. I once didn't do this and I learnt my mistake pretty quickly. Was sat in the pub and we got talking about Harry Potter. The half blood prince had just come out and I went "hold it!! I haven't read it yet I'm on with other books" and at that point someone sat down who wasn't there before and said "we talking about Half Blood prince? Was gutted when...." if it wasn't a waste of beer I would have poured it over her head. So after that if it's a series and I've been waiting you can guarantee I will be one of the first to get the book and finish it!!

Yep, series are my go tos. Tho, I don't hang with too many people IRL who read so I'm generally safe ;)

You are not old! If so, I would be too and I refuse to believe that. ;)

I'm also in House Organa. I write about comics over at IGGPPC and read A LOT. I'm an environmental scientist by day, but my heart is really with art more than science these days.

I, too, am obsessed with the Whedonverse, Veronica Mars, Sherlock and so much more.

As to book series, my absolute favs are Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series and Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series

Hey all! I'm Amanda and I belong to House GlaDos. I'm sad to say that I haven't actually read much of the "go-to-geek-lit" and feel as though I am not worthy of being apart of this fine group. BUT! The few I have read, I have loved.

I am a fan of reading odd novels, manga and how-tos (that's not that geeky, but hey! its what I'm about). I've kind of falling out of the YA section lately, though. Just a little disappointing as of recent. I am always looking for new suggestions though.

Hi, I'm Fiona. I like various things, currently I'm obsessed with the Divergent series and the Disney movie Frozen. I have a varied taste in books and music too, currently reading The Family (also known by its original name Malavita) and I read Demi Lovato's quote book everyday. Hi!! I'm Alex. I live in Canada, and work as a receptionist but am an aspiring-artist!! I'm in house Quinn, and am either totally obsessed with things, or completed uninterested!! My top obsessions (so many to pick from) are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Doctor Who, Sherlock, the Outlander novels, the Harry Potter novels (movies are good too, but not my fav), and I just started into Supernatural.. And I'm a "sucker" for most vampire novels (Dracula, the Historian, Interview with the Vampire).

House Organa over here, too. I'll be 37 in a week and a half, which is fine by me. ;)

I read a fair bit of YA and a few more 'age appropriate' books every now and then. I'm currently experimenting both with audiobooks and with reading multiple books at once. I love book clubs and goodreads. I could talk about books all day long!

I generally abide by the 50-page rule as life's too short to slog through something I'm not enjoying. I generally have pretty good taste in books, though, or maybe just pick ones I know I'll like as I have only abandoned two books in the last year. ;)

I'm Clémence and I just entered house GLaDOS. I read pretty much everything with some preference for Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but after reading so much of it I've begun to be a bit picky.
I read also a lot of History books.

I'm Ruby, House Organa, I really enjoy fantasy novels. If it as Dragon, Vampires, Witches, or Werewolves I will give it a try. That being said I am not a fan of the Twilight series, I tried. I love to read and so glad that I am out of classes this summer, so I can read for fun.
