Theophilus Axxe (theoaxxe) | 1 comments There's a giveaway ongoing. If this group may also be interested in discussing Behold a Dark Mirror, I can probably arrange with the publisher a free-ebook-of-the-month promotion at some future date.

Here's the giveaway teaser:

Behold a Dark Mirror is a science fiction epic in the tradition of The Forever War or Dune. A titanic conspiracy is about to seize universal power in the wake of mankind's run to the stars. Against great odds, and at the cost of personal tragedy, a few ordinary people strive to subvert a ploy to establish a millennial tyranny. Behold a Dark Mirror describes a future of teleportation and space travel populated with men and women not too different from present-day, as the nature of people changes little through time even if customs do. Its painful resolution rises from the eternal conflicts of the human condition such as love, vengeance, power, freedom, greed, charity, on which Theo Axxe builds the evolution of an intricate plot. Behold a Dark Mirror tenderly nurtures sense of wonder, believable and tragic characters, world-building; its denouement is about survivors that must learn not to hate themselves. This book will appeal to readers who appreciate the powerful criticism of authority in the works of the Wachowski brothers (The Matrix, V for Vengeance) and the adventure of A Fire Upon The Deep. The novel is 95,000/100,000 words long, about 330 pages in 5.5x8.5 trade paperback (available since January 2013).

Synopsis: Teleportation fuels commerce, travel, and our rush to the stars; but an ominous agenda has given teleportation to mankind. Freedom, once again, calls for the conscience and for the blood of the few whom destiny places in the way of a forthcoming empire of terror.
Jenus is a brilliant and successful chemist with a drinking habit. When obscure agents blackmail him into a shady undertaking, he soon finds himself compelled to run for his life without even knowing what he is running from. Nero is a former mining executive. He had to retire early and nurse in solitude a crippling, perhaps self-inflicted emotional wound. Little he knows of the turmoil an unexpected visit will bring. Kebe, a petite green-eyed beauty with an authority problem, is bent on involving Nero in a plot to expose criminal collusion in the conduct of government affairs. A reluctant Nero accepts her challenge as a device to overcome his too-absorbing sorrow, and the two become engaged in mayhem that quickly gets out of hand.
On the run, hunted, driven past their beaking point, Jenus, Nero and Kebe eventually meet on the stage of a struggle of epic proportions between the failing government of mankind and powerful interests with a dark agenda. This little band of outcasts, catapulted into history in the making, has to choose not if, but how, will be remembered forever—either dead or alive. And the choice is between horror or worse.
