Elizabeth Chadwick is an excellant author who's books are mostly all based in the Medieval period. I first read her work a few years back and have been hooked ever since. She gives the reader a detailed description of daily life and struggles her characters went through and the people she writes about have a way of whittling themselves into the readers heart like William Marshall and Alexander de Montroi.

my first Elizabeth Chadwick was The Winter Mantle then The Lords of White Castle from there I have had to read all her books. Since I'm in the US her works are a little hard to find unless you come across them on ebay or such but I'm buying them all up one at a time. I think my favorite would have to be the Champion or the Conquest though for some reason those tourney knights have captured a peice of my heart. :)

Misfit | 251 comments Alexander was a bit of a hunk in The Champion isn't he? The Falcons of Montabard was my first and always holds a soft place in my heart (as well as Sabin - what a hottie).

I think Shadows and Strongholds is tops, I really enjoyed Brunin and Hawise's story.

I love the sense of time travel she gives you with her books and I've found after reading the latest I have to reread one of her old ones. Nothing else will do.

yes I agree her books are like a forbidden chocolate to be savored. I didn't not think I would like The Marsh Kings Daughter but found it's a favorite too, I think I've owned a year or so and read it three times.

Misfit | 251 comments Lol, did you notice my typo about Alexander? Or was that a freudian slip? I've just corrected it but I wrote hung instead of hunk. My bad :)

lol, I figured it was or should I say hoped? All of her main characters end up being on my favorite list they seem real and she shows them struggling to come to terms with life and love and of course what is demanded of them.

Elizabeth | 42 comments Cough! I was trying to remember if I'd described his anatomy. I think I made an oblique reference in chapter 1!!!

I was just going through all my books and of course took the time to read the inside covers of them. I determined that I'm going to have to read a few ofthem again like the Champion and the Winter Mantle, it's been too long.

The only ones I'm lacking are A Place Beyond Courage, Daughters of the Grail, The Running Vixen and The Leopard Uneleashed. I'm thinking I'll get A Place Beyond Courage, I've been looking at that since I first heard about it.

Misfit | 251 comments Good choice, I'd wait for the new editions in the Ravenstow trilogy. I looooove William as a young child in this one.

I see they are out in the UK I have the first edition of The Wild Hunt but want matching covers for the three when I do buy them.

Misfit | 251 comments The used copies for Leopard Unleashed were pretty spendy last time I looked. Not parting with mine.

Sharon (sharonk) | 59 comments Just in case everyone hasn't heard, Sourcebooks has now published Elizabeth's first novel about William Marshal, so it is finally available in the US! Sourcebooks is interested in her other books, too, which is good news for lovers of quality historical fiction.

Misfit | 251 comments I heard Scarlet Lion is next, some time in 2010. Could be wrong though.

thank you Misfit. The WIP on Matilda sounds interesting and the Spring 2010 release of To Defy the King is news to me too, I cannot wait! I wondered about Marshall's daughter and am glad to see Chadwick continue with the family line.

Misfit | 251 comments I recall once she mentioned at HFO she was thinking about Edith Swanneck as well. Would love to see that. Wouldn't it be nice if she and Sharon could pump them out like Plaidy? They'd be rich and we'd be poorer :)
