I have to say I read The Wolf and the Dove after reading EC and Penman and it hit the wall :)I've read Garwood's medievals (but doubt I'd go back). Marsha Canham wrote a trilogy that's losely based on the Robin Hood legends and very tongue in cheek at times. Through a Dark Mist, In the Shadow of Midnight and The Last Arrow.

lol, well from time to time I need a little romance but I like it medieval.

Patricia Ryan - Silken Threads - excellentThe Roberta Gellis Roselynde Chronicles, specifically Roselynde, Alinor, Joanna and Gillian - kind of straddle the line between romance and straight historical. My kind of romance.
Red Adam's Lady and Gilded Spurs by Grace Ingram - long out of print but well worth the read. Sweet romance with a mystery involved. No hot stuff.
I really enjoyed Red Adam's Lady, but it was a tad bit too fast paced, some characters flew in and out and I had a hard time keeping track of who was who. I gave it four stars, but I think I'll enjoy it better the second time around. That book is hard to find without paying a fortune, but don't forget to check the library, or put in an ILL (inter-library loan) request. There is at least one library in the country with a copy and they participate in the ILL program.
I've never read Roberta Gellis but I'm going to get a few of her books her shortly thanks for the suggestion.
lol, I'll remember that.
I cannot remember if I ever suggested Katherine Deauxville but you might like her, she writes medeival romance and not the 'he rutted her' type but the rich in history with some romance to ease the way.

I'll have to look her up. I keep trying to find someone new but EC has me forever spoiled (not that she writes romances, mind you). Problem is, every one I come across at Amazon has a review from Harriet and one other reviewer who is a known gusher. I try the book, and I can't make it very far before it flies.
So I'm on a romance kick currently, medieval romance of course. So I ordered a bunch of books the last couple days including

I read A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux and I disliked it so much I don't think I'd read anything else of hers. Are her other books different? I've been wanting to try Roberta Gellis, too. I was going to start with the first book of her Magdalene La Batarde series.
Gellis' best works are the first of the Alianor series. Just make sure to spread her out, her *big misunderstandings* and explainatory style can wear thin after a while.I loved Garwood a few years ago but she's one that's going to stay on the shelf and/or be mooched away to new homes. I think EC has forever spoiled me.
Have you tried Marsha Canham? Her trilogy losely based on the Robin Hood lessons is good fun and very tongue in cheek. That said, it's been almost five years since I've read them so don't hold me to it :)
well I'm 100 or so pages into The Prize and love it!! I really like the chemistry she builds and it's medieval but not over powering in history though I do love it. I will be reading more of her books.
I have bought Deveraux but have not read them yet, will do here shortly. From what I've heard and glimpsed in the first few pages her style reads good it might have been just that story Jenny. I know I've done that to a few authors but when I went back to try again I loved them.
Marsha Canham...I will most certainly try her books just not now, on my wishlist though.
