Academy Awards 2013: Personal Choices and Fantasy Game
Batuhan ng hairspray cans, ayaw mo? (view spoiler)We can also rant about the snubs. I only have one...
Inside Llewyn Davis!!!! My god. It was better than more than half of those films nominated for Best Picture. Seriously, I don't get it. It's an injustice.
Well, not a fan of the Coen Brothers, although mukhang interesante naman siya. (view spoiler) Hindi ko pa napanood ang Llewyn, inuna ko na muna yung mga Tier 1.On snubs:
Trance for Original Score - Masaya kaya siya!
"Young and Beautiful" for Original Song - But I don't really mind this. Actually, I think this award should be scrapped na, hehe. Ilipat na sa Grammys.
Scarlett Johansson for Best Actress - Just because you are not talking doesn't mean that you are not acting. It goes the same with not being seen on the screen.
The original song is there so they could have good reason to put an intermission numbers in the ceremony. But yeah, Young and Beautiful was fantastic. GG soundtrack is one of my favorites last year.On ScarJo. The voice thing and that it is from a scifi movie. They love their period pieces, based on true story and auteur film acting performances.
Angus wrote: "Move on na, hahaha! Batuhan na lang ng baso sa F2F. Hi Buddy! :D"I think you guys are going to throw stuff at each other on Maria's F2F already - hindi na kayo aabot sa F2F ko, haha! (view spoiler)
I have Philomena, super malabong copy nga lang. I'm not sure if it's the Philomena we're talking about. It is in French? ata?
Aren't we supposed to draw lots?FYI, the BAFTA winners have just been unveiled. I'm surprised that Her and Dallas Buyers Club were not nominated for anything.
Can we do it on the 22nd na lang? Madali lang naman magdraw lots. Her didn't get a release date on the UK before the nominations were announced. It was only released last Friday. I don't know about DBC.
The result of last Saturday's draw lots:1. Rhena
2. Aaron
3. Mae
4. Angus
5. Alexa
6. Bennard
If one post their lineup for each day of the week, we should be finished by Saturday midnight. So Rhena, the floor is yours. :D
--------------
POINT SYSTEM
Angus and I talked about a point system to lessen the possibilty of ties and grant more weight on harder to predict or lesser obvious categories to the total score. Each category starts with 6 points [total no. of players] and then minus the number of similar picks apart from yours.
Examples:
Category: Best Picture
Nominees: Argo, Amour, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty
Picks:
Rhena - Les Miserables
Aaron - Zero Dark Thirty
Mae - Les Miserables
Angus - Argo
Alexa - Les Miserables
Bennard - Argo
If Les Miserables wins: Rhena, Mae and Alexa will get 4 points each for this category. That's 6(starting) - 2(similar picks) = 4.
If Argo wins: Bennard and Angus both get 5 points.
If Zero Dark Thirty wins: Aaron gets the entire 6 points.
Category: Best Actress Supporting Role
Picks:
Everyone - Anne Hathaway
If Hathaway wins, everyone will get only 1 point for this category.
Total all points for all categories and whoever gets the highest total number of points, wins. Lowest, lose. Loser treats winner. Simple. :)
Questions?

Best of luck, bitches! :p
Hello, worthy opponents! Here's my lineup, after much bugging from Aaron who reeks of competition and control freak-ness:1. Best Picture: 12 Years A Slave
2. Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron
3. Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey
4. Best Actress: Cate Blanchett
5. Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto
6. Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyong'o
7. Best Original Screenplay: Her
8. Best Adapted Screenplay: Before Midnight
9. Best Cinematography: Gravity
10. Best Film Editing: Gravity
11. Best Original Score: Her
12. Best Original Song: Ordinary Love
I would just like to apologize to Fassy for being a sellout. I believe in my heart that you should win Best Supporting Actor but Jared Leto is the sure-r bet.
Also, yay for Gravity, Her, and Before Midnight!
Come March 3rd this is exactly how every film blogs and news sites will be typing the winners:1. Best Picture : 12 Years a Slave
2. Best Director : Alfonso Cuaron
3. Best Actor : Matthew McConaughey
4. Best Actress : Cate Blanchett
5. Best Supporting Actor : Jared Leto
6. Best Supporting Actress : Jennifer Lawrence
7. Best Original Screenplay : Her
8. Best Adapted Screenplay : 12 Years a Slave
9. Best Cinematography : Gravity
10. Best Film Editing : Gravity
11. Best Original Score : Gravity
12. Best Original Song : Let It Go
Selling out on Original Song. Moon Song should win but Oscars had a history of choosing theatrics over indie. Falling Slowly! T_T Also, sorry Chewy! :/
Before Midnight ain't winning Adapted Screenplay. The rules on that one is kind of fuzzy. Voters would be hard-pressed to choose it over other obvious adapted screenplay nominees. :P
Also... Despite my pick, I am pulling for a Gravity Best Picture win/ It's high time a science fiction movie to win. If Lord of the Rings had done it for fantasy, Gravity can and should do it for scifi. It's okay to lose some points over this if it wins.
1. Best Picture : 12 Years a Slave2. Best Director : Alfonso Cuaron

Well? Are you voting for Gravity? It's an injustice if it sweeps all the awards and not win the Best Picture. We are not just people, hah!

Perfect Scores:
Scores if their entire lineup came true.
Rhena: 32
Aaron: 29
Mae: 26
Angus: 28
Alexa: 28
Bennard: 43
That's Bennard with highest possible perfect score but lower probability of coming true.
Mae with lowest possible perfect score but higher probability of coming true.
Goodluck on Monday! :)
I just realized that I won't be able to live stream because I'll be out doing an ocular visit. Huhuhu.
Aaron: For Best Picture, hindi ba dapat:Gravity = 5 (Alexa and Bennard picked this)
12 Years a Slave = 3
Maemae: Someone will live tweet, at hindi ako iyon, hahaha!
Benny: Wow! Parang personal choices ang mga iyan.
Anyhoo, I think magkakatalo lang iyan sa Film Editing. If Captain Phillips wins, ililibre ako ni Benny, haha!
Aaron: Sige, ikaw mag-text sa akin ng list of winners by lunchtime. :PAngus: Useless din sa akin ang live tweet kasi nagtratrabaho ako nun! Hindi ako makakasilip sa phone. Haha!
Benny: If ever there'll be an upset, I hope it's for the Best Actor category. Leo! <3
Eeek! Not for THAT film. Leo's performance is great in Revolutionary Road. That scene where he and Kate were fighting. Feel na feel ko ang panggigil niya. Or sa The Departed. Okay din siya dun.

This is the full list of nominations.
Aside from that, some of the active TFG members also agreed on doing a Fantasy Oscars game.
TFG Fantasy Oscars '13
It's like Fantasy Football but with oscar-nominated movies instead of football. It is basically a prediction game. Predict who or which will win on each category we selected and the one who got the most correct predictions wins. We're not doing all of the categories. We're only doing 12 categories which are the following:
(view spoiler)[
1. Best Picture
2. Best Director
3. Best Actor
4. Best Actress
5. Best Supporting Actor
6. Best Supporting Actress
7. Best Original Screenplay
8. Best Adapted Screenplay
9. Best Cinematography
10. Best Film Editing
11. Best Original Score
12. Best Original Song
(hide spoiler)]
The lineup or combination of bets should be unique for each player. For example, all players can have the similar Best Picture as long as they have different bets on the other categories.
Qualifications for Joining:
1. You must be an active F2F attendee. This is important because the lowest scorer treats the highest scorer on the upcoming F2F.
2. You must see at least 9 (total of the Best Picture nominees) of the 17 films nominated for the categories selected. The films nominated are the following:
TIER 1 (nominated on 5 or more categories)
(view spoiler)[
12 Years a Slave 6
American Hustle 8
Dallas Buyers Club 5
Gravity 6
Nebraska 6
The Wolf of Wall Street 5
(hide spoiler)]
TIER 2 (nominated on more than one category)
(view spoiler)[
August: Osage County 2
Blue Jasmine 3
Captain Phillips 4
Her 3

(hide spoiler)]
TIER 3 (nominated on one category)
(view spoiler)[
Before Midnight 1
Inside Llewyn Davis 1

(hide spoiler)]
Only two of those listed above are not available in the, you know what. :D

2. Bennard
3. Angus

5. Mae
6. Rhena
Dates to Remember:
Feb 14 - Signup before this date.
Feb 15 - Drawing of order of lineup submissions. We are drawing order so that if 2 players have the exact same lineup, the first in the order gets to have that lineup while the other player must change one or more of his bets for his lineup to be unique.
Feb 28 - Submission of lineups deadline.
Mar 03 - Judgement Day.
