This is a 2014 Printz Honor book. What did you think?

I liked it! It definitely has a lot of "adult" content but I think there are still themes relevant to teens in there and the writing is so lovely.
I agree that the writing is lovely - it has a lyrical quality to it that fits the fairy tale theme. The content, however, leaves a lot to be desired. This is definitely a book for older teens or for adults - not one that I'd ever recommend to my junior high patrons!
