I noticed the popularity of this book and when I read about the movie adaptation I decided to read the book. The ending left me with mixed feelings and I wonder if anyone else had the same reaction?

Kerry Bridges | 121 comments I found it a really unpleasant book, and I read another of hers which I also thought was pretty horrible to be honest. Not keen at all!

I was the same. I did like the book, I liked the pace, the way the narrations were laid out, the plot twist in the middle, pretty much all of it down to the end. After I was just like 'ahm, what? is that it?!'. I just wasn't satisfied with the ending at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it was changed for the film

I agree. It made me feel like the same Vinci code - all the twists and turns and it felt like it was written with a thriller film adaptation I mind - did you get that feeling?

mmm, now that you mention that, yes I see what you mean about written with a thriller film adaptation in mind. Hadn't thought of that before!

I increasingly get the feeling that mainstream popular literature is written with adaptation in mind. I liked the book and I'll watch the movie but books like the great Gatsby (I love) and the book thief seem to have a much more natural progression.

I've not read this, but it keeps making its way on to my amazon wishlist. Then I'll think "no", and remove it. I'll probably get around to it someday, but the mixed reviews keep putting me off!

Lucy (kittylulabelle) | 7 comments It bugged the crap out of me tbh-found myself caring less and less about the main characters as it progressed but by then I had 'invested' in reading it and felt compelled to finish it. Neither thriller, nor thrilling in my eyes. :-(

Kerry Bridges | 121 comments I agree Lucy, didn't like it at all!

The trailer looks good. I remember having the same written with a movie in mind feeling with The Da Vinci Code (Robert Langdon, #2) by Dan Brown . I haven't even watched the film (keep thinking about it if it's on but always choose something else) even though I really like the cast Audrey Tatou, Paul Bettany, Jean Reno and Ian McKellan. I read the book when it had just came out so maybe now there's been enough of a gap for my memory;) This time I wish I hadn't bothered taking the time to read the book.

Apparently the ending has been changed for the film. I read a couple of reviews today, and it looks reasonably intriguing, so I might go and see it. I'd really like to read the book first though -- I keep meaning to, but never seem to get around to it. I might download it tonight and get started!

The cinema version looks gripping. I felt it was written for the screen and I like Ben Affleck so I'll watch it on DVD. I read the book quickly and enjoyed the twist but there are so many good books out there that I am no a fan of its pulp fiction feel

Finally read this at the end of last year. I actually really enjoyed it, I think mostly for the twists and turns. I won't say that I found the ending believable -- I actually felt it was a bit of a let down. I did enjoy "Diary Amy", though, and the whole construct aspect.

Not the best book ever, but readable and fairly unique. I'd like to see the film now.

I agree Sarah. I like a good twist but the ending was frustrating.
