The Taking discussion

Ok, can someone who has read the book please explain the age thing to me? If Tyler is the “kid brother” of Kyra's ex-boyfriend and he’s 17 right now and Kyra is 16…which means Kyra was 11 when she was dating Austin…which barely counts as actual dating. AND that means that Austin was, like, 15 when he was dating 11-year old Kyra? What fifteen year old dates an eleven year old? WHAT?!

Anyway…=P I think I’m thinking too much.

Well Kyra was 16 when she was taken by the aliens. She is returned 4 years later still exactly 16 years old. She doesn't look any older and she has the exact same bruise as when she was taken so whatever they do the body doesn't age. Tyler was 13 years old 4 years ago and is now 17. Kyra's boyfriend was 17 when she disappeared so he is now 21 and away at college. When Kyra comes back for a second she thinks Tyler is her boyfriend because they are now the same age as when Kyra left. It sounds kind of confusing but it all works out.

OHHHH...Ok, her not aging makes a TON more sense. I feel like I should have guessed that. Duh. (I also feel like the synopsis should have mentioned that she didn't age...)

It does say "that five years have passed . . . yet she hasn’t aged a day."

Hmm could have swore it was 4 years but about the same sort of age thing.

So Tyler was 12 but now 17.
Her old boyfriend Austin I think was 17 so prob 22 and at college.
Her old best friend now 22 too and away at college.
So Tyler is now the boy next door and close to the same age as her so they grow close. Everyone else moved on with their lives but she is stuck at 16 and Tyler is 17 so it doesn't feel yucky. A few times they talk about when Tyler was young and that is kind of weird but mostly she ignored him then.

Wow, you guys are thinking WAY too hard. It's actually fun to watch. :)
