I completely agree! I just joined this group recently, and though I do not have a Youtube channel myself, I enjoy watching the reviews of others online. However, I've found it really difficult to introduce myself and start conversations with people, probably because I don't know the right place to post in order to have a conversation. I think organization is key to an active and collaborative group!
Also, it may just be me, but I feel like there's more channel promoting and video linking here than concrete conversation and discussion. Perhaps limit a place for promoting videos and channels and keep other spots open for discussion without all links everywhere!
I'd also immensely look forward to group book discussions that aren't restricted to just videos but in the forums as well for people who don't Booktube like me.
Looking forward to meeting you all and making new friends! :)
Hello there!
I'm Lian, by the way!
Lian wrote: "I just joined this group recently, and though I do not have a Youtube channel myself, I enjoy watching the reviews of others online."I just got another idea for another discussion category!
How about something like:
"Technical Tips"
"Shooting Suggestions"
"Video Advice"
I don't know what you'd call it, but something like that; to help newcomers improve the quality of their videos. A centralized place to answer questions on cameras, software, microphones, and so forth.
Good idea! I see Kate just set up a Newbie section so perhaps those can fall under that category.I know there's definitely people like me who are absolutely horrendous at technology (a reason why I've been hesitant at making Youtube videos) and definitely would like the advice of other more Youtube and technology-experienced people!
Lian wrote: "Good idea! People will ask about cameras, lighting, audio, shutter speeds, white balance, computer hardware, software, lenses, compression settings, editing techniques, special effects and more. There's a lot to learn!

I think this is a great idea.

I would like to suggest a place for posting author interview videos. Possibly it only needs to be a thread BookTube Support section, or maybe a section in its own right.

great idea!
Would it be an advantage to separate out the Book Reviews into genres? So rather than having a single Book Reviews thread, give Book Reviews its own Category on the main page, and underneath it list the various genres which are separate threads. Another advantage of this is that we can see both how many reviews are being produced in each genre, and how many viewers are looking into each genre. Genres could be: YA, Fantasy/Sci-fi, Classical Lit, Nonfiction, General Fiction.
There should also be a Goodreads section under the social media so that we can add more friends on here. :)
Just a thought. :)
Just a thought. :)
Should we have a "Currently Reading" Thread? If I can't read the BOTM or I'm reading something else for a review, I'd like to tell someone what I'm reading or know what someone else is reading.
Hi! :) Is there a place here to offer up your book for review? That would be so awesome!
Thanks for your time,
Heather
I'm going to make a place today to talk about my livestream, since it's much more immediate than pre-recorded videos. A lot more people are doing livestreams now, it would be cool to see a list of them when they are happening. Thanks!

The biggest problem I can see with this group is the fact that there is only one category of discussions called "general".
That's awful.
It makes it far too difficult to find topics you may be interested in talking about. May I suggest some new discussion categories such as:
"Introductions/New Members"
"General Discussion"
"Book Reviews"
"Book Hauls"
"Tag Videos"
"Group Suggestions"
I would then lift the ban on promoting individual book videos and permit them to be posted within the befitting category. HOWEVER, I would also make everyone post under the same topic. So, for example, under "Book Reviews" you will just have ONE topic for "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green and then the 900 people who review that book will all post their links inside that single thread.
Same applies for tags and book hauls. In "Book Hauls" you would have topics like "January 2014" and "February 2014" and everyone has to post their haul videos in the appropriate topic.
I really think getting rid of "general" as a discussion category and making more granular categories for a diverse array of topics would help immensely in getting more people to participate. Perhaps I'm wrong, but if you look at the more active groups on Goodreads, none of the really busy/active ones have a single discussion category.
Just an idea. I hope others might add to this topic and start a dialog with their suggestions on ways to improve the group.
