Does anyone know anything about this movie, apparently coming out very soon (if not already out) and starring Ian McKellen as Holmes in 1947?

Lenore, it's based on the book "A Slight Trick of the Mind" which came out about a decade ago. Has gotten very good reviews, especially for Ian McKellan's performance. I'm dying to see it, although be warned - it's sad. BTW, it opens in the U.S. on Friday.

I read the book. I remember feeling kind of lukewarm about it. However, I guess if it's gotten good reviews I have to go see it.

It probably won't come to mine, either, but fortunately we are close to "art" theaters in two other cities and I'll be driving over to see it when it comes there.

When I first saw the trailer on TV, I was hoping it was a film of Michael Chabon's The Final Solution, which I thought was a much better book. Ah, well.

Lenore, I liked "The Final Solution" better, also; I thought "A Slight Trick of the Mind" was very depressing. Still, want to see the movie badly! It's bound to be a wonderful portrayal of Holmes with Ian McKellan in the part.

Sabrina, yeah, we better all take the extra-large box of tissues...

I, too, am looking forward to seeing Mr Holmes with Sir Ian MCKellen. Wonder why it reminds me of a certain series?

We probably all had that feeling, Susan. I am just relieved that (as we know) Holmes is still well and living happily in Sussex with Mary Russell...
