I thought other readers who enjoyed this book might like to discuss similar novels. Obviously Cottonwood by the same author comes to mind, but there are others. I've read a few and will post about them here. Anyone else have any they would like to recommend?

I want recommendations! I'm working my way through Smith's novels, but I can't think of books by other authors I'd call similar, though I guess that depends on what similarities one focuses on. I'd love to hear what links others have drawn.I enjoyed the interspecies romance Radiance, but it doesn't have many similarities apart from the interspecies aspect (in this novel the H/h are paired in an arranged marriage for political purposes, and the physical differences are not as extreme).
My first recommendation is Lips Like Ice by Peggy Barnett http://www.amazon.com/Lips-Like-Ice-P...
From the description: He calls himself the Prince. He is humanoid but not human--fascinating, sensual, at the cusp of maturity, and accustomed to getting what he wants. And Lydia has awoken in his world to find that she has been given to him--as a pet, a plaything, and, if he so desires, a lover.
As Lydia comes to realize that the Prince is as much a prisoner to his culture's ways as she is, her resentment slowly unfurls into pity, understanding, curiosity, and a deep, unpredictable, consuming lust. She wants him too, on her own terms. But in a world fraught with hidden dangers, her terms are not open for discussion, not when their thirst for one another could doom them both. In a court where monarchs are obeyed and sexual hierarchies are strict, one wrong move could end the Prince for ever... and what would happen to Lydia then?
A solid 4 stars from me. The main character wakes up and realizes she has been captured by aliens and is in fact a gift to one of the royal family. I recently reread this one and enjoyed it even more the second time. The author delves deep into gender and sexuality, and doesn't shy away from Stockholm Syndrome and issues of consent. The best parts for me were the fact that the aliens didn't look like hotter humans, they are described as giants and having similar biology to insects. (They are described as "big blue and elf like" and personally I pictured Tom Hiddleston as Loki in all his alien glory.) I also have to mention that the author had a lot of fun with the alien biology and differences in sex organs. But the reason I ended up loving this book was the intense love story between two characters who couldn't be more different on the surface but alike in unexpected ways.
And it looks like the Kindle version is only 99 cents. That's a steal. Give this one a try.
Hi! I'm also working my way through Smith's novels. I absolutely adored The Last Hour of Gann - simply perfection for me.I'm working my way through Heat and the Arcadia series. The only thing is I find myself reading Smith's work fairly slow and devouring every delicious word.
Love to hear about other books that are similar - captivating, plot-filled with intelligent depth to them, and erotic - dark or romantic.
I've yet to find anyone - who for me - takes me on a journey like Smith. Yes, you could say I'm a fan. ;)

I am also looking for a book similar to this one. This amazing world building and style of writting. I have already read the Radiance mentioned above. Could anyone recommend me something similar?

Thanks for the recommendation! I loved it!
I have the same problem but so far I haven't read anything that comes near "Last hour of Gann"Nothing that gives you the "feels"
"The black mage" by Carter gave me similar feels. And as people mentioned above "Transcendence" .None of them is about interspecies love ,but have the same feeling after you finish, like you need time to mull it over,to adjust to your new perception of everything .And are brilliantly written. Also "Strange the dreamer" by Laini Taylor. It is mutch slower and not as intense but similar in a way.
I would highly recommend Heather Relken books, she writes real and living alien worlds with fully fleshed out races and her books are HUGE. Slow burn, realistic relationships and AUGH she reminds me of R. Lee Smith in a lot of ways, The closest thing I've found to Smith if Im honest, but with more spice. Stowaway was the first book I read from her, and that series has 3 other books in the same alien world vein, but different races and planets which are all fully fleshed out and so fucking cool and unique. They could all be read as standalones as well!
Erotic, some dark elements (Varies per book, but if you want dark her book Decadent Sins fits the bill and has the MOST swoon worthy morally dark gray male love interest EVER.) Well written and lengthy but doesn't drag. Her work is very similar!
"Captive prince" by C.S.Pacat .I found it resonated the same way.Not the story itself, but how i felt while reading it, the impact it left on me,tension and relationship between characters and how powerful the writing is.It is hard to match anything to R.Lee Smiths writing, so i recommend books that are as powerful as her stories and gives me the same vibes.
