It's February – the month of love and romance, and we are going to be so very cliché.

 photo a8562088.jpg
Here is the challenge for this month – Remember, each book needs to have a romance element, though the romance does not have to be the main story element:

1. February is American Heart Month. Read a book where a character gets his or her heart broken (does not have to be a main character).
2. February is Parent Leadership Month. Read a book with a family, including parents and children.
3. February's birthstone is Amethyst. Read a book with a mainly purple cover OR read a book where someone is given jewelry.
4. February 1 is National Wear Read Day. Read a book with a mainly red cover OR read a book where a character is a redhead.
5. February's astrological signs are Aquarius (Water Bearer) and Pisces (Fish). Read a book that takes place at or near water (river, beach, lake, etc.) OR read a book about mermaids or sea creatures.
6. February is Affair to Remember Month. Read a book in which one of the characters has an affair, contemplates an affair, or is accused of having an affair (cheating).
7. February is Creative Romance Month. Read a romance book outside of your usual genre. Some examples are historical romance, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, etc.
8. February is National Weddings Month. Read a book in which there is a wedding or wedding proposal.
9. The third week of February is International Flirting Week. Read a book in which the characters flirt around, but never actually get together.
10. February 11 is Make a Friend Day. Read a book where a friendship leads to more.

Challenge Levels:
1-4 books – Let's be friends
5-8 books – Infatuation
9-12 books – Serious commitment
13+ books – It's Amore

Read a book from each numbered item on the list, or mix or match – your choice which items you do.

You can pick and post your books now or post as you go. Don't forget to tell what level you are aiming for!

Happy reading!

MollyK | 270 comments Ooh I like this one. Gotta start with friendship.

1. Traps by MacKenzie Brzos

February's birthstone is Amethyst. Read a book with a mainly purple cover

- First reads winner and an advanced copy with a lovely amethyst outer cover
- Also a beautiful love story between one of the main characters and her husband.

2.The Dust Beneath Her Feet(The Purana Qila Stories, #2)by Ashraf-Ahmed, Shaheen

February is Parent Leadership Month. Read a book with a family, including parents and children.

- A short story of a family's tribulations in India and a wife’s determination to stay with her husband

3. The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin

February is American Heart Month. Read a book where a character gets his or her heart broken (does not have to be a main character).

- Hearts are broken all over the place in this one. Not in the romantic sense but by the actions of others, circumstances and place in history.
- This novel doesn’t have a traditional romance element but each characters capacity for love in the romantic sense is severely impacted by life circumstances. Its still a book about love and obsession so I am going to include it for this challenge.

February is Parent Leadership Month. Read a book with a family, including parents and children.

- Very much a story of family both biological and families of circumstance.

4. Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen

February is Parent Leadership Month. Read a book with a family, including parents and children.

February's astrological signs are Aquarius (Water Bearer) and Pisces (Fish). Read a book that takes place at or near water (river, beach, lake, etc.)

February is Affair to Remember Month. Read a book in which one of the characters has an affair, contemplates an affair, or is accused of having an affair (cheating).

-This book has it all!!

5. The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka

February is National Weddings Month. Read a book in which there is a wedding or wedding proposal

- A novel that tells the story of a group of young women brought from Japan to San Francisco as “picture brides”
