Started this and about 30% through. I'm finding it very interesting, especially getting little flashes of others that Returned. I really want to know what is going on!

How are you liking this, Lu? I am tempted to get it - would love to see what you think. (I have not visited the "spoilers" tread. If you posted there, could maybe also give some ideas here?)

I have been away on holiday and haven't been reading. Will hopefully continue tonight :)

I found the book interesting and I think some interesting discussions can occur, but I don't think the book was great. I gave it 3 stars.

I do think there are things we can discuss without anyone reading the book.

If you know what it is about then read further:

1. How do you think the world would react if people started returning?
2. How would you feel if a loved one came back? Would you accept it? Be suspicious?

Just watched the trailer again, and it gave me chills. They seemed to have changed a few things, but they will have to, to make a series:

Not going to read this but I was lurking so...
The concept reminds me of the book/movie Solaris. The book is more about the planet itself, but I really like the way the movie explores the idea of recreating someone from the memories of the person who loved them. One of the scientists is worried about bringing one of 'the returned' back to Earth in case it starts happening on a mass scale. And George Clooney's character can't handle having his wife back so he shoots her out into space, but then when she comes back again he sees an opportunity to make up for the behaviour that drove her to suicide.

Also read two other books recently where people came back from the dead - Snowblind by Christopher Golden and Hitchers by Will McIntosh. They were both a bit crap, but there were some weird and interesting situations that arose from having the dead back.

Not sure how I'd react - although I'd certainly be suspicious - but I think it'd be pretty chaotic for the world, with lots of awkward situations and ethical dilemmas along with the joy of getting a loved one back.

I haven't read the book (and I don't think I will) but watching the trailer that Lu gave (I am definately going to look for the series) . . .
Just imagine about having a loved one back after being without them for 32 years . . . I could just feel the anguish of the father in the trailer . . . it must be extremely hard.

@Lauren - The book explored the ethical dilemmas and how the world reacted. I thought it was a pretty accurate guess of how the world would react. I'm interested to see how they portray it in the series. I think it can take it much further than the book did.

@Chriz - It starts soon. I will definitely report here on how I found the first episode! The actors seem well cast!

Watch the first episode and I liked it. It has good indication of how people would feel if faced with a loved one returning from the dead. I look forward to more!

There were a lot of changes from the book, only read if you really want to know or have read the book:

The family's surname is changed
Jacob and his aunt died in river, and not just Jacob
Jacob has seizures
The pastor is the boys friend from when they were young, and not just a separate character as in the book
Whole new character set with the aunts family etc.
And then another family in the mix(view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

Sounds cool. I would also like to watch the series eventually.
