JKR has said Lockhart is the only character based on a real person and that the real person is worse than Lockhart.

I don't hate Lockhart, but I think he is exceedingly annoying, self-centered, and stupid. I guess he isn't evil, but it's very wrong to take credit for other people's work. I think the parts with him in the second and fifth book are funny. I don't really feel sorry for him. It's completely his own fault that he ends up in St. Mungo's.

He's really annoying and doesn't even think before he does something, lyk Hermione's permission slip. He just signs it. Then he gets Harry to do all that publicitly things. He's so stupid!

I think Lockhart is a brilliant character-though I'd never want to meet him-if only because of how funny he is :]

As a book character, he's definately fun to make fun OF, however..if I met him in real life and actually had to deal with him, I'm fairly certain I would throttle him

OMG i love this guy! Only in the fifth book, and before he says hes a but in the second. I imagined him as a cute three year old boy during the fifth book! I loved his helper, but it was really said when she said, "Gilderoy doesn't get that many visitors, he'll be so happy to see you!"
