message 1: by Katie (new)

Katie Cunningham (kcunning) | 19 comments I've been checking in, but it appears that we still don't have a new book or a new poll. Is the club on hiatus for July?

message 2: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitafajitapitareada) Wondering that myself. There was some talk before of reading A Fangirl's Guide To the Galaxy, but I never saw if that was agreed on anywhere?

message 3: by A (new)

A Grayham | 15 comments Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I wasn't sure how long the last book was supposed to go until since I wasn't able to read the book/participate in the discussions.

message 4: by Katie (new)

Katie Cunningham (kcunning) | 19 comments Maybe it's time for an executive decision? I think everyone is done discussing it now :)

message 5: by Louise (new)

Louise I'd be up for a new book (maybe starting it either mid-August or beginning of September? It's super late now to expect everyone to chose and get a hold of a specific book by start of August).

message 6: by Katie (new)

Katie (featherlessflamingo) Yeah I second maybe a late start, like have it start the second week of August!

message 7: by Jen (new)

Jen (jwhittz) I like Louise's suggestion of the beginning of September!

message 8: by Louise (new)

Louise So...erm, is anything happening about a next group read?

message 9: by Katie (new)

Katie Cunningham (kcunning) | 19 comments Not that I've seen :\ I tried messaging a few mods, but there hasn't been any response.

message 10: by Brittany (last edited Aug 14, 2015 12:29PM) (new)

Brittany Allyn (soyxunxperdedor) Maybe we should start throwing suggestions out and if the mods still haven't shown up in a couple of days we could just pick one? I don't know how we'd discuss whatever we'd pick though, but we could at least start suggesting books.

message 11: by Louise (new)

Louise Sounds like a good plan to me.

message 12: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Allyn (soyxunxperdedor) Should we decide on a theme or should we just suggest books?

message 13: by Louise (new)

Louise Hmmm, I guess a theme could be helpful, but depending on how active a group is can also really limit the suggestions (am having this problem in one of the groups I mod atm).

I kind of assumed the Mary Sue group would mostly be looking at fantasy, sci-fi, gender/sexuality inclusive, and lady-led sort of books?

message 14: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Allyn (soyxunxperdedor) Well the last book selection had a theme but we can just suggest anything, there doesn't have to be a theme.

message 15: by Louise (new)

Louise Oooh, see what you mean about theme now, just had a look through the suggestions thread for last time (wasn't a group member back then), I'd be happy with a broad theme that's open to interpretation like that.

Give the mods a couple more days and see if they have any themes/plans in the works?

message 16: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Allyn (soyxunxperdedor) Seems like a good idea, maybe if there hasn't been a mod response by Monday or Tuesday we should just do it ourselves.

message 17: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Zampedri | 152 comments I don't generally have anything to do with the theme/poll/whatever and I have no idea how to actually do the poll, but if you would like to do a theme for the next book, let's start throwing them out. If not, let's just start naming some books we think everyone might like. I'm not real sure what's going on with the book club anymore.

message 18: by Louise (new)

Louise It's the menu on the top right of the group page - select 'poll', and then 'create a poll' then within the poll creation (I think, I always muck this bit up) there should be a button for making the poll a 'featured' one at the bottom of the main group page.

I don't mind doing a theme but I'm no good at thinking them up. I'll throw in The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms for consideration though. First book of a fantasy series that comes highly recommended from Medieval PoC and apparently won/nominated for a load of awards. And also cause I already own a copy and was planning to read it anyway.

message 19: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Allyn (soyxunxperdedor) Oh I didn't realize we could make a poll if we weren't mods. Well, first things first, we need to decide if we're doing a theme or just suggestions, once we figure that out and have a few suggestions we can do a poll. If we're just doing suggestions I suggest Adaptation . It's YA Scifi, it has great representation, the main character is bisexual, and there are several queer characters and characters of color, plus it's very good in general.

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Zampedri | 152 comments Let's just do suggestions this time. We'll work on getting a few and then I or someone else can make a poll once we have a few lined up and then we can decide on how long to keep up the poll and how long to make the reading schedule. Sound good? Like I said before, I'm not really involved in the polls. Not because I didn't want to be, but in the beginning there were a lot of mods and a few stepped on a lot of us were excited to help. Now there are very few left. Hopefully you will all be willing to help me out a little along the way as I figure this out. :)

message 21: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Allyn (soyxunxperdedor) I'm willing to help out in any way you need. I'm thinking we should start a new thread calling for book suggestions, we only have a couple in this thread, and other members might not be paying attention to it, but they might pay attention to a new thread that's specifically for suggestions.

message 22: by Louise (new)

Louise Sounds good to me! Also willing to help if needed. And I second Brittany's suggestion of starting a new thread with an obvious name.

Since it's been a while since the last group read you might also want to put out a broadcast message to all group members saying we're looking for suggestions with a link to the nomination thread. I always forget how to do it and have to relearn each time but it's: Moderator 'tools and guidelines' near the top right of the group homepage then 'broadcast a message...' (I'm sure there must be an easier more logical way to get to it but I've not yet found it!)

message 23: by A (new)

A Grayham | 15 comments I don't mind helping out, as well. I only really get on goodreads for the club or to add/find books to add to my ever growing reading list, so I don't know much about how everything else works...but I'll do what I can :-) And I agree just a blanket nomination would probably be best for now. If there isn't much chatter going on, a theme might be more complicated than it needs to be since it may only be the few of us left.

message 24: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Zampedri | 152 comments I made a September book discussion in the Book Club thread, and I would like to thank all of you for keeping the book club in motion, I have really enjoyed the discussions and the book suggestions in this group and I would rather not see it die.
