Since we now have 3 potential genres and imprints, I think we need to give these children a home. So I've opened this folder for the purpose of discussing a potential name, logo, motto, and statement of purpose for that entity. I've suggested it before, but I'll repeat it here to get the discussion going:

The Cooperative of Independent Authors Publishing Group -
CIAP

Statement of purpose: To support and promote the works of independent authors in all genres.

Micah Sisk (micahrsisk) Cooperative and Group in the same title is something of a tautology.

Independent Authors Publishing Cooperative makes more sense to me.

Statement of purpose: Cooperative support and promotion for independent authors in all genres.

I think ALL genres is a bit of a stretch at this point. Maybe someday. I think we take those 3 words from the mission statement and add them when it is finally reasonable to do so.

Again I defer. Redundancy in critical systems is a good thing; in naming our project - not so much. And the acronym IAPC is lyrical - almost poetic. I think using the prepositional "in all genres" also answers Iffix's concern for premature inclusiveness. It indicates absolute support and promotion of independent authors, but leaves the idea of genres a bit vague.

Justin (justinbienvenue) I still like Cooperative Press or even Cooperative Indie Press/Publishing(CIP). It was the first name that caught all of our attention and its simple and works. Also the second IMO, works and really speaks to the idea of what we have in mind for the group to be.

Justin, My initial instincts were like yours - short and descriptive. But after a little googling (it is a verb now) the terms 'cooperative press' and 'indie press' came up so often that there would be nothing to distinguish us. I think our chances of 'standing out' from the crowd are better with Micah's version. Also, if you examine most of these other entities, you quickly see that they are not really 'cooperating' so much as selling services. That's what I want to avoid. No financial obligations other than sharing advertising costs. I've started down this track because I don't have the money to buy what these other 'coops' are selling.

Ah I see. When we first discussed it that did pop into my head that it may be a term used alot of it may already exist. That's fine but yeah then Micah's suggestion works as long as you put more words in front of after it to may it more defined.

Beside the name and statement of purpose, we would include a description of the function of the cooperative, sort of a 'Who we are' introduction. For the website particularly, we would want to include as many relevant searchable terms as we could muster.

Wow, that's a nice logo!

Justin (justinbienvenue) Really liking the logo!

J. Burton | 61 comments I love that logo - though wasn't it decided that the name (here a variant of "Co-op Press") was too well-used previously?

The variant that was most common was some form of Indie Press. Cooperative Press does appear frequently, but I didn't find the variants "Co-op Press" or "Co-oPress"
