Goodreads Ireland discussion

Nominations are now open for our May - July Quarterly read. Quarterly books must be by Irish authors or relate to specifically Irish events. There is only one nomination per person. Authors are reminded they are not permitted to self nominate.

When nominating please use either the add book function or include a link to the books Goodreads page.

Nominations will remain open until 12:00 AM EST on Saturday July 25th (slightly less than 72 hours) For those outside the U.S. East Coast that's

Ireland/U.K: 5 AM Saturday July 25th

West Coast of United States: 9:00 PM Friday July 25th

Sydney: 2:00 PM Saturday July 25th

Its come close before so I'd like to nominate Walter Mackens Seek the Fair Land.
Its on of my favourite books from when I was a teen and still one of the best representations of the Cronwell wars in Ireland.

The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry. This book sounds interesting but then so do the two that have already being nominated.

Tenderwire by Claire Kilroy. I know that a few people in the group including myself really enjoyed another title by the same author.

I'd like to nominate Number 5 by Glenn Patterson.

I'd like to nominate All That Is Solid Melts into Air by Darragh McKeon. An Irish author writing about Chernobyl. Allan and I rated it 5 stars. Sara gave it 4. John Boyne often comments that as a writer from Ireland, he is often (always) asked why he writes about places outside Ireland. His response is that it seems writers from small countries are expected to write about their country. Writers from super power countries are "allowed" to write about anywhere with no questions.

I'd like to nominate The Closet of Savage Mementos. I'm reading it now, and I think it could generate some good discussion.
