The Guide to Roleplay

What is roleplay?

Roleplay is basically writing your own story with other members. You'll write your character's actions in one comment, and another member will write their's in another and the characters communicate.

Where do I ask to roleplay? Or do I just start somewhere?

You can ask in the Roleplay Requests thread if anyone wants to roleplay, and the person that is interested you will decide a place to roleplay and you'll start from there.

What is powerplay?

Powerplay is when you write the actions of another character. You create your character, and you own that character. You choose their actions and can't choose the actions of a character you don't own.

Here are some examples of powerplay. 'Sarah' owns the character Emily and 'Wendy' owns the character Olivia.

Sarah: Emily walked into the park. "Hi!" she said to Olivia, who was waving back at her and smiling.

Wendy: Olivia noticed Emily getting mad. "Is everything okay?" Olivia asked. Emily shrugged.

Because Wendy doesn't own the character Emily and Sarah doesn't own Olivia.

Are there any general rules I should follow while roleplaying?

There are definitely rules to follow while roleplaying. You can't swear during roleplay, nor have anything inappropriate rated R, anything beyond kissing. Nor any alcohol or drugs talk. And no text talk.

What if I want to tell the person I'm roleplaying with something during the roleplay?

You can do this is double parentheses in your roleplay post. For example

((I have to go - I'll post tomorrow.))

Does anything have to happen before I can roleplay, or can I just start?

Hold on, hold on! A mod must approve of your character before you can roleplay. Any mod, Ella, Analeese or Jess. They might tell you to change some things which you can do by pressing the edit button. If you're on the app you can't access that.
