I have a question. This month we are challenged to read a book with a character over 65. I chose to read Who Murdered Mr. Malone? by Hope Callaghan. It is the first book in the Garden Girls Cozy Mystery Series. Unfortunately, age is never mentioned... I am assuming at least one of the "garden girls" is over 65. They are all retirees and the MC has grandkids (but that doesn't necessarily mean she's over 65). Do y'all think it would be OK to use this book? Or should I try to find something different. I just downloaded the Complete Miss Marple Collection and I can read the next one in the series (I've read the first one recently). :) Then, I would just use this book for Reader's Choice and the Miss Marple for the over 65 book. ;) :)
Since age is not mentioned, I would go with an educated guess. Does the character seem to be retired? Does the character have adult grandchildren? Is the character talking about things that happened in the fifties or sixties? Then, they are most likely 64 or older.
I'm in for this month - 5/5

Can't believe it's the 4th of August and I'm just now saying I'm in. Playing this month a little more by ear than I normally do.Book Lover's Day: Reader’s choice! Read any book you like, any genre you like.
National Thrift Shop Day: Read a used book, or borrow one from a friend or the library.

Senior Citizen's Day: Read a book with a character over age 65 — does not have to be the main character and I chose 65 based on most dictionary definitions for "senior citizen." (HINT: The Aug featured author has a series that would fit this challenge.)
OK, I made a change. I decided that the book I originally chose for the book with a character over 65 probably wasn't really over 65. So, I'm gonna read a Miss Marple for that book and moved my other book to Reader's Choice. :) My new list is HERE.

I just got a kindle called The 52 Weeks: How Two Women Got Unstuck, Got Inspired, and Got Going, and How You Can Too! and plan to see if it is a good renewal for the new school year idea for me.

I do not read them on the date of the holiday, just sometime throughout the month of August.
Bonnie wrote: I missed the lighthouse choice, but today the 9th- any genre, sounds up my al..."You haven't missed the lighthouse/ocean book. The challenge runs for the whole month of August. You don't have to read the book by the specific holiday.
You can read the books in any order you want. You just need to try and do them all by the end of the month. Enjoy!
